That's to complex of a pattern to start with. At least that's what I was told by my quilting group. I've only done two blocks so far. One was 4 diamonds and one was a flight of birds. I left the paper on and pressed after sewing every piece on. All my points matched up beautifully and I didn't cut off any when I trimmed to the edge of my paper.
