i agree. my own background is polish, russian, canadien and spanish. all here legally. all learned english as their second language. my first language until i was 4.5 was not english, until i went to school. my own family needed help when they got here, but soon helped themselves. all became citizens, except for my mother, who lost the respect of all her family for it. i've heard jokes about those kinds of people all my life and they are funny. like you, i know who i am and where i belong.

And I thought the joke was funny. Things can be funny even though there is a serious issue involved - actually, ESPECIALLY if there's a serious issue involved. Humour is one of humankind's ways of dealing with the crappy things in this world. And it's plain to see that this joke has sparked a discussion on said serious issue and made some of us think about it, perhaps reconsider our opinions, etc. Jokes are not ONLY funny. Humour helps us to make sense of this sometimes confusing world. JMO. :-D
