Scrappy quilts are my all time favorite quilts to make!!! These remind me more of the "olden" quilts, which I tend to favor. I like the brown bag approach. Divide your scraps into lights, mediums and darks and put them into paper bags (no cheating using plastic bags!!) and just put your hand in and pull out a scrap and that's what you use...no putting it back and trying for something else!!
