I tried a 1 3/4" and it doesn't work as well as a 2" circle. You can do it with a 1 3/4" but the designs are based more on a 2". the differance is how the quarter circles overlap or connect. They will look slightly farther apart if you use the smaller circle but they will still work.

I recommend the 2" tho but if you want to do it with the 1 3/4" and see how it comes out you can then decide if you would rather have the 2" instead next time.

The one that shows the differance the most would be the one I call the Bowtie. I think it may be the last one in the ones I posted. The quarter circles need to overlap to get the bowtie effect. If the circles are smaller then they barely overlap. Not a problem if that is a look you like. And in the designs where the quarter circles don't connect much it wouldn't be an issue.

I tried it with a 1 1/4" template and it works well but there you get more overlap than I was looking for. It is all in what you want it to look like and you can play around with the two sizes and see what you like.

This may not make sense to you yet. If you don't want to try to make a 2" circle then use the 1 3/4" for now and then come back to this conversation after you have had some practice.

Another thought is when you cut out your circles cut the outer edge of your pen line not on the line or inside the line. You will gain a bit in the size.
