Are you making half square triangles? I like the Eleanor Burns method. For example, if it calls for 4.5" squares, make them 4 7/8 or 5", put them on top of each other, draw a line, corner to corner, sew 1/4" away from the line on each side then cut them down the middle line. Hope this helps.
I always round up to the full inch, saves time measuring 7/8 inch, and gives me that little extra to square off.
