The only thing I see is that maybe the seams should have sewn all the way to the edge of the backing fabric when you were joining the blocks together. When you rolled it onto the blocks as the binding between blocks, maybe it should have been rolled and sewn all the way to the edges again. (Was that as clear as mud?)
