Your Bernina dealer should be able to get you a service manual. I own 4 Berninas but I would not think of having anyone but the dealer take care of the service. My husband can change the oil in my car and rotate tires etc. When it comes to computerized stuff I wouldn't take the chance of making a mistake. While there are much more expensive Berninas out there now in it's time the 1630 was the cream of the crop. As a quilter I did not like the 16 different directions the needle could go. It made for a less stable straight stitch. I would let the dealer handle that machine.
