I've had Black & Decker, Sunbeam, and others. I finally and recently bought a Rowenta because I needed great steam! While it is considerably heavier than others on the market and more expensive than the $10 KMart sale iron, it came with a great guarantee and kicks butt on everything from silk to velvet to my husband's shirts. It even keeps wrinkles from my summer linens! I don't know what I did without it, so I guess the old adage stands - you get what you pay for! :)
