Nobody's perfect when they first start out. Including me. I think a little sick boy would love a sailboat quilt and I honestly don't think he would even notice that the points are off. They are for comforting the sick and needy. They aren't going to be judged or anything. No quilt police here, lol.

I am a beginner and do have some small inperfections like points are missing etc. The one I am amost finished with is a sailboat one but unfortuately all the sailboats have the points of the boat cut off due to miscalulation of the squares for the sails but it looks ok. Dont have a way to take a picture so will have to just pick someone and send it and hope you can work with it.
