The only two quilts I have tied have been for special little girls birthdays so I have used narrow satin ribbon to tie. I follow the pattern of the quilt and tie in the middle of certain squares, first tying in a square knot and then in a bow. If you don't do the square knot first, kittens and little brothers will pull out the ribbons! For extra security you can tie the loops of the bow together also.
