Suggestion:
When using the squares, use a 5 inch template to make sure it's "standard" size - if not, then use a 4-1/2 inch template to draw the stitching line.
I've found that even though I think we all try to cut accurately, sometimes our rulers seem to vary, or how we position them varies.
On a 5 inch block, even 1/8 of an inch seems to make a difference.
Another thing I've learned:
I've cut a 5-inch square of template plastic and then used the 1/4 inch quilter's tape to "frame" it to the 4-1/2 inch fabric that will be showing to audition the fabrics. Some prints seem to work well being cut into 5-inch squares, and some work out better cut either smaller or larger.
Some prints are great for "fussy cutting", but they do waste some fabric.
