When we bought our three bedroom house we did not have enough furniture to fill all the rooms. The garage had already been used for living space - so that was the "play room." We had one child and so turned the small "extra" room into my sewing room. five years later we got a huge surprise - baby #2!! So, I lost my sewing room and took over 1/2 the playroom as my own. We have gone - in 15 years and now 3 kids from an echoing empty house to a house so stuffed that it is always messy. LOL of course, people keep trying to "store" their stuff in my sewing space - but I won't have it! I have enought stuff of my own there!
