2015 - January Block of the Month - Directions & Discussion

In 2014 we worked with squares and rectangles.
This year, we will throw in some other shapes and try a few different techniques.

To kick things off, we'll start with the Honey Bee block.
It's a Public Domain block; one set of instructions can be found here:

Hey Patrice, love your choice! I've never made a Honey Bee block before. I'm going to make mine completely scrappy! Thanks for hosting this thread!

I've looked at this before, thanks for choosing it. Mine is still in 30's. I'll put them all into a quilt one day.lol
Blessed are the quilters, for they are the piecemakers.

Happy New Year! Believe it or not I'm still working on my 2013 BOtM. This looks like it's going to be a fun year though so I better buy some fabric and join!

    no need to sign up.
    jump in any time.
    make what you like.
skip any that don't appeal to you.
in fact, we will only select blocks from sites that offer the instructions free and that don't require signups there, either.

I skipped last year, but just might jump back in. I like this block, so I just might just be able to talk myself into taking on one more project. Just between us, I think I'm BOM addicted. I just love having someplace to go and something to do around the first of each month. So, thanks PatriceJ.

Hi, Patrice. So, will all of these blocks from Jan to Dec go together in one quilt top? Is fabric the unifying factor? Or style of block? Just curious! Thanks!

Good morning and happy Groundhog day!
I am new to quilting and even more new to this forum. I was wondering when the February Block will be posted. I am nearly finished with the January block (I will post a picture when completed) and am so excited.... this is my first Block of the Month!
    Thank you!

NiaJane, it's usually the 1st of every month. You'll have fun with this! I did it in 2013 for the first time and I'm still working on making a quilt of those blocks.

That's great NiaJane, quilting can really be fun, and there are so many things to try. You'll see endless ideas on Quilting Board for sure! You can always go back and do the BOM from previous years too.

I found the needle turn video on u-tube. It was very helpful. Now I just have to find the one that explains cutting out the pieces with the rotary cutter. Or maybe I mean the one that tells me which rotary cutter I should be using.
