David, have you looked at tutorials on paperpiecing? All Crafts web site has several tutorials, a slide show, and lots of tips.
http://www.allcrafts.net/quilting.htm

The paperpiecing stuff is about 1/4 down the page. The slide show is pretty good.

David I feel your pain... I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. First over thinking the whole thing, LOL.

Second use fabric pcs cut larger than recommended. It just seamed like there was not enough fabric to work with for me.
Oh and I labeled each piece with the fabric that belonged with it.

David,

I found this video and it was most helpful.

http://www.connectingthreads.com/tut...ideo__D81.html

I have forged ahead. I have had to tear out some of the seams and do over, but this video said to use Scotch Magic Tape on the sewing side before ripping out - that was a lifesaver!

I've managed to get half of the star completed. It gets easier after the first one is completed. It sure looks strange until you trim it on the dotted lines - then you see the star "shining through".

They are strange looking before they're trimmed, aren't they? I've done some with a lot of pieces, that don't even look like anything at first.

I have never paper pieced before. My first attempt was a failure - totally messed up the technique. Second attempt technique was better, made the whole star, but don't like the color combination. Not enough contrast. Third attempt - technique seems under control, I am satisfied with my colors, but I messed up the order of where some of the colors were supposed to go (used some B colors on the A side). Sooo - hopefully attempt number 4 will be a success!

Thank you Gwenny. The Light and dark purple have a little glitter to them, I don't think it showed up to well.
Addie Lou the fourth one has to be The One! LOL
