Hi JanRN ... morning has broke and the wind is just gusts now. I don't think things were too bad here and I know I didn't get a deluge of rain. Though listening to the tube, I can see that some areas not far off (more south of me) had a lot of trees down and that there are 150,000 in the province without hydro. So all's good and I count my lucky blessings! Hope that Patches (and MrJanRN!!) have an easier day today. Great job on the frame up! I asked about the twin needle, as I was thinking the other day how that could be effective for quilting, so picked up on yours. Besides, would save time!!
Honchey ... I'm worried about you! I just saw that three towns in your state are flooded by 5 ft. Sure hope that is NOT you!
So Everyone ... please clarify for me ... if JanRN's left block is Virginia, then what is the star block? Whatever it is, it's a beautiful block!

QNSue...as usual, great stories to go with the blocks.
Carrie...I like the way your fabric choices gave the star an echoing affect. Very nice.
Mirabelle...Only a couple of more weeks of your beautiful roses. I've looked in my LQS and roses are hard to find!
JanR...I really like your sub block. I'll have to look it up. Like you I've been glued to the weather channel. The affects of Sandy will be felt for a very long time.
Quilte....JanR's block is Covered Wagon Crossing, not Virginia Star.
We've had very different wind patterns the past few days but no damage, rain or snow. Many of our leaves got blown away on Monday and we gathered up the rest of them yesterday with our mower. I now have most of my garden tucked in for the winter with a nice cover of leaf mulch.
I'm thinking of Honchey today as I post my pics.

**pictures GGal's garden tucked in for the winter .... with quilts!**
Thanks GGal for unconfusing me for the moment re block names!
What a perfect pair ... in thinking of Honchey, I see brightness in the background of your Covered Wagon background and some blue sky peeking thru in the Star. It really pulls out the blue, that's hiding in the background fabric. Lovely!!
Me too ... thinking of Honchey ... everytime I see more pics of NJ, I shed some tears for you Honchey!
My ♥ goes out to you!

Love your blocks, Ggal; that blue really pops. Thanks for sorting out the names of my block. I've made so many subs for the last 8-10 blocks I don't know what I made LOL!
Can I run an idea by yinz? All along I planned on making 2 quilts. Here's my plan: I'm going to make one 8 blocks by 8 blocks square. This fits on the top of the bed in the spare room (with dust ruffle around bottom); I'll add a 4" border all the way around. Instead of a solid border with cornerstones, I made a bunch of 4" PC blocks (I know, I'm anal) and I thought I'd put a few in the corners and space a few randomly in the borders. Does this sound weird? In my head it sounds okay but do you think it would be too busy? I'd have a `1" border between the regular quilt blocks and the 4" border. Hope I've explained this well enough. That's today's plan, may change; please let me know if you think this okay to have just a few 4" random blocks in the border. I really value all of your suggestions. Thanks!!

It makes sense to me JanRN ... However, I am getting a visionl of your 4" blocks on point amidst the border.
Maybe, oh just maybe, you could get OKSGlad to get her magic wand out and show you how it could look?
She's such a talented lady!!

One thing to consider, blocks on point would be wider than 4 inches so the border would be wider but it would be very nice. Either way, Jan, it would be a very nice way to highlight the PC blocks.
