I have received my book and read it through.

My question is - do I need to iron the freezer paper to the plain paper pattern and then glue the pattern to the fabric or can I just print the pattern straight onto the freezer paper and iron this to the fabric?

Another question for those in the know!!! do you think using all one fabric for the foundation blocks would be a good idea and then black and whatever for the applique?

Most of the foundation blocks are pieced, so from what I've seen of the book, a variety of fabrics would be needed. I have my blocks planned out in various batiks - all different colors and different colored foundation blocks depending on the block design.

This is so exciting to begin seeing everyone's work!

3. Maybe use your focus fabric for the outer pieces.

I posted a piece of my focus fabric and as you can see, it is covered by the applique pieces. Also you can see why I need to cut a little larger, as my green pieces don't go all the way to the inner pieces at the corners. So now I think I am ready to try applique with all of you. I don't do hand sewing so I'm using Sulky's very thin invisible thread to stitch down the pieces.

I'm looking forward to learning from everyone.

I followed instructions exactly but I think I didn't cut my templates consistently. Some were inside the line and some outside. Other than that I think it went together quite well for the first try. I didn't use the fabric I had chosen for the project so will have to redo this block. My ink didn't run when I tested it but did when it had glue on it. I put my templates on backwards. Two mistakes to correct next time around. Hopefully it won't bleed then. I used the templates from the website, that saves a lot of copying. I think this will be a lot of fun:)

mtngrl.........that looks really nice!! Your pieces all go together nicely. I just need to cut a little larger. I didn't use my fabric for the project either. Just wanted to do a practice run........glad I did!

Can't wait to see everyone's blocks.

I am IN!!! I was able to pick up the book at JoAnn's for just $16.77. I love sales. I am going to use my stash of primary colors and mix in some fun prints. Now to explain to husband why I need to buy extra rolls of freezer paper.

Ruth - your block came out so pretty! I can't wait to see what you do with your "real" fabrics!

Thanks, I have a bit of trouble with the little folds that happen when you turn back the seam allowance. Does anyone know how to avoid the little bumps?
