Anael 03-29-2011 03:38 AM

So far I made 2 blocks for this week, C8 and M11. Going to run some errands now, maybe will try and finish M3 when I'm back.

sandpat 03-29-2011 04:50 AM

I think I PP'd every tri (except the ones with larger applique pieces on them- then I pp'd the background if it had seams in it!)

I did finally figure out how to do the set in seams though..LOL...I think I was on block # 33876900866385 before I did though...LOL

sewNso 03-29-2011 05:12 AM

ana, sorry you having trouble with m3. yes, that sorta set in triangle on the outside. one of the triangles had a set in seam 'tumbling blocks'. mine was not perfect. anyway, saw a block similiar to your m-3 last nite as i was printing blocks. told myself, i would just do that large triangle in 2 pieces with a seam to match the very outside piece next time. i printed off m-3, and drew a dotted line to do just that with it. early in the dj topic, before page 50, i ran into a tut that showed a fella, doing the y seam.
i'm done with week 5, but have other easier blocks done. i'll post the lst 6 weeks, when i get them done. bbysty all day today.

Anael 03-29-2011 05:20 AM

Pffffffffffffff finished M3. When you look closely it's horrible but from a distance it's ok with me. And that's what counts LOL LOL

sandpat 03-29-2011 05:38 AM

NO worries...it will disappear into the quilt along with the other 224 blocks!

sewNso 03-29-2011 05:44 AM

sandpat. that rs6, did you pp it without doing sections lst? aftwds, i thought, is that possible? i think i will start reading the early wk thrds, before i jump in. at page 50 in the dj diary. hvnt fd whr the wks strd yet.

sandpat 03-29-2011 04:28 PM

Oh gosh....I have NOT forgotten that tri! I sailed along, thinking...man this quilt really won't be all that hard...RS6 slapped me right in the head! Brought me down to size really quickly! I DID pp it and I probably DID do sections. This was so early in the schedule that I probably went to the Thatquiltblog and went with her directions for it. It was a really hard one for me though...but I DID get it done!

sewNso 03-29-2011 06:06 PM

thank you sandpat for mentioning the 2 tut's. i knew i had to stop and search the site and read some more. but i was 'hooked', and was having soooo much fun. but knew after that RS6 didn't come out as good as i wanted it, that i had to re watch a tute. i was busy today, so just did easy ones tonite. but , i do intend to find the lst few weeks , where all the discussion was, and about each block, before i go on. curves, and y seams, i need to learn. thx, so much

Anael 03-31-2011 04:53 AM

20 blocks down, total of 446 pieces! Still one block of week 13 to go, I hope I made all the hard ones. This week was not easy :(

sandpat 03-31-2011 06:31 AM

Hang in there!! You are making progress and your completed count is growing!

Anael 03-31-2011 06:33 AM

Oh sure I will keep going. I only have 205 blocks to go so why give up now LOL

sewNso 03-31-2011 07:17 AM

posted my 6 weeks in the lst 6 weeks blog.

luvmortherest 04-01-2011 09:17 PM

just went and peeked at them and they look great.

luvmortherest 04-06-2011 08:35 PM

it is awefully quiet here. where did everyone go.

Anael 04-06-2011 09:03 PM

LOL I'm still here. I can't upload pictures, have to get me a cardreader. Maybe today. I'm at 22 blocks now but didn't make any this week. Finished a quilttop and have to finish another one before I go back to Jane and Sylvia :D

sandpat 04-07-2011 05:17 AM

I'm with you Deb...awfully quiet! How ya'll comin'---Jan?? Meredith??? Elle???? I know Kathy (who is hand quilting) is taking a break during the warm weather.

sarahelloyd 04-07-2011 06:36 AM

Hi everyone, I've not been quilting recently, my lovely son at University is spending more and more time here and I got fed up with having to keep packing my gear away. But I am more than half way through and am determined to finish the blocks by Christmas, so good luck to everyone still plodding on!

sandpat 04-07-2011 04:37 PM

Sarah...its good to hear from you! Glad you are plodding along too. Sounds like you have a doable schedule for your blocks!

Janstar 04-07-2011 05:58 PM

Hi everyone! My puter has been down for a week and have I been frustrated!! Iv'e got the top tri row all sewed together and the backs trimmed and sewn down. Had to start with that because I could'nt find out how wide to cut my sashing without my computer. Someone tell me so I can get going.

sandpat 04-08-2011 04:55 AM

Which one Jan..between the blocks or the outer between the tri's and the center portion?

Janstar 04-08-2011 04:04 PM

Hi Patti, the ones between the blocks. I found it on one of the pages but had to read quite a few before finding it. 1" right? Is that what you did Patti? 1" x 5"?

Also, I'm just devastated, I did the top row of tris, got it all together including sewing up the w and n on the back and found out I had it backwards. Theres no way I can undo all that so I will have to rename my Jane. How about 'Backwards Jane'? I'm not saying anything to people here but I had to tell you guys. I'm just bunged.

sandpat 04-08-2011 05:03 PM

No worries Jan....I did the exact SAME THING with my tris...only I did it to the top and left side. No one will know. I only told you guys and see...you've already forgotten! Thats how unimportant it is!

Now...on to the sashing..hang on...I'm going to measure.

Between the blocks- 1/2" finished,so cut 1" x 5 1/2"

The outer skinny sashing between the center and the tri border is 1/4" finished. Cut 3/4" wide.

Now...don't worry about your row of tris. When you get totally finished, you won't even know which side it is.

Janstar 04-08-2011 06:01 PM

I did forget that and thanks for making me feel better about my booboo. Seemed like alot of work just to screw it up with something like that. I hesitate laying them all out on the floor because of my little dogs. They like checking them out! LOL!!! Thanks for the numbers also Patti! Now I can go forward.

Janstar 04-08-2011 06:03 PM

Oh, I'm not putting small squares on mine so would you cut the side to side sashing in one piece?

BevD 04-09-2011 03:23 AM

Hi everyone, glad to see everyone pushing along. I have been quite ill with a very bad virus the last 10 days so haven't had much time to get on with my sewing. I had been trying to get about 1 week ahead luckily enough so I have posted weeks 12 and 13, although not M3 as haven't even attempted that one yet. Luckily the week off was this week so I am not behind with the schedule ..... I'm getting a little bit paranoid about this schedule .... probably shouldn't worry too much about it but start stressing if I haven't completed my blocks before the end of the week. Hmmm maybe do need a bit of a break after all. My poor dog had 5 tumors removed the other day as well, including 1 from both eyelids. He is doing well though, we have been slopping around together recovering. Well enough of my viral ramblings and keep up the good work everyone, and don't forget to post those pics!!

I guess it depends on how you want it to look..of course if you quilt vertically across it, it will appear that you did it in pieces anyway. I'm assuming that you will QID the sashing pieces. Now that I'm thinking about....I think that is how I would do it if not using cornerstones. Good idea!! :D:

Janstar 04-09-2011 06:05 PM

Thanks Patti! I will be QID on my sashings so it sounds like a plan.

sandpat 04-10-2011 05:41 AM

You keep getting closer Jan....I was so anxious at this point to get it finished. I bet yours is looking pretty.

Just a couple of photos to show you I really am getting closer to the finish ! LOL!!! It does'nt seem like I'll make the May deadline though. I have three rows sewn together and one tri row so far. Like Elle and Lace would say, there's alot of 'fiddly' stuff to do!

This is everything on my coffee table all in piles. You can tell how long it's been there because my C-mas DJ is still on the table!

All layed out and not enough room to do it properly.

The tri row and three rows below it are all together.

sewNso 04-11-2011 07:01 PM

jan, that is stunning. did you start your quilting after you finished all the blocks. looks like you are layering and quilting the blocks individually. correct? hand quilted? what a treasure.

Janstar 04-11-2011 07:12 PM

Thankyou SewNso! Yes, I started hand quilting it after I finished making all the blocks, tris and kites. Yes, I'm QAYG the way Lacelady did. She figured it all out and you can find her work all through this thread. She's brilliant!

Anael 04-11-2011 09:26 PM

Wow Jan thatīs stunning! I thought of QAYG too but I only have 22 blocks so a long long way to go.

Do you have a picture of your Christmas DJ?

Shemjo 04-12-2011 04:00 AM

Jan, it is beautiful!

sandpat 04-12-2011 05:00 AM

Jan, it looks fabulous! Isn't it fun to lay the whole thing out at this point? Yes, there are lots of "fiddly" things to do, but completing each little one gets you closer to the end.

Girls...if you start quilting NOW as you finish each block..when you finish sewing the blocks, you will be done! I started hand quilting my pile somewhere about mid-way. It only took a few more weeks after I finished sewing the blocks to be done quilting. Wished I had started doing it that way earlier..If you go to page 214 on this thread...you will see how to do it.

Anael 04-12-2011 05:29 AM

Thank you! It makes sense doing QAYG this way.

sandpat 04-12-2011 05:35 AM

For this quilt, it works great because the blocks are small enough that you don't need to worry about the distance between the SITD quilting on the back of the quilt when you get done. Thats all that shows on the back fabric. But it works!

sewNso 04-12-2011 08:25 AM

sandpat. thx for the page number. i had read about it earlier. and intended to look it up when i got done. don't know if i can put those addictive little blocks down to hand quilt. summer brings all kinds of new chores to do around the homestead. and of course there is the garden. i was just feeling guilty last nite, up late, and realizing all the other things calling.

sarahelloyd 04-12-2011 11:19 AM

Jan, your quilt is going to be so beautiful! It has given me a prod to get going again. Thanks and very best wishes to you as you progress.

sandpat 04-12-2011 04:16 PM

Sew....thats why you can get so many done in the summer..the hand quilting part I mean. You can take it with you and its so easy to do it for just a few minutes at a time. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can quilt a little 4 1/2 " block! It a great break from all the other Summer chores.

sewNso 04-13-2011 03:42 AM

and after seeing your quilt, i decided to add a couple little tiny triangles i hadn't appliqued. cut them out, put the freezer paper on, then waiting for a 'to go' project. are those 4.5 inch blocks? TGFDJ. i think we all need a jane stickle in our life. you know, she prob made her money doing piece work. that's prob how the quilt made it to st. louis. she sold it.
