So far I've found that with the blocks in my group. They look so wildly different. Its all about fabric and color choices.

sandpat 06-10-2010 05:18 PM

I agree...everytime someone posts their blocks I always think, Man...I should have gone with that color scheme and done it that way!! I have a list of Jane quilts a mile long that I would love to make!

I'll be really interested to see what you do with the tri's Kim. Is everyone in your group doing Tris?

I'm curious to know which one you guys like the best ...

The third one has black sashing and rainbow cornerstones too which you can see in the pic ...

Rachel, I like the last one best, you can really see the way the pattern is set out best there. They are all however very nice and whichever you choose will make a beautiful quilt.

Rachel, I was scrolling and thinking..oh, that looks good, then I got to the last one and when "OOOHHHH...now that one looks stunning!!" :D I really like it with the varying background values and the outer scallop treatment. Its so much fun to play with the software isn't it...now you see how quickly I could do the first one for you

Oh it was so much fun to play!!! It took me a while to figure everything out, but I realized it's not super quick to make one, so I really really appreciate you doing that one for me. As you can see, I kept your idea of the circles, so I hope you don't mind if I put your name on the back as "Design inspiration" and I will do the same for Kimby too since she gave me the idea of the different shaded background. :) :) But yes I think I agree with both of you, the third one has way more visual impact, so I think that's the keeper!!

I *may* even do two at once, i was thinking it'd be nice to have a kind of scrappy one where I can make all my mistakes first and then do my real one. That may be a little ambitious, but we'll see! I decided to keep the second one simple. I will use muslin for the background, and then scraps for the colored pieces.

Now i just have to figure out the fabric I need to buy for my blue and orange!! :)

sandpat 06-11-2010 10:49 AM

Rachel...you don't owe me any design inspiration...thats just how I interpreted your comments  I like your little scrappy too! I really like how you are carrying out the RTW colors into the tris..that is cool! So..mind if I copy you for my next Jane??

Oh Patti, I dare you lol, this is a marathon as it is and I take my hat off to all of those who are doing two at a time,

Oh dear lord, no...I wouldn't attempt to do 2 at a time!!!! I just love working on the blocks so much that I hope I will make another one. I'm learning so much and I think IF I make another one...it will be so much better!!..so maybe after a rest after this one...we'll see

Yes but it's still your idea. :) :) :), Plus I think it's fun to give credit to all the girls who helped make my jane possible. Please do copy the RTW into the tri's .... I really like that look. :)

Cheers!

Goodness, I have been out, two days in a row, and I can't believe how much there was to see here. Loved all the diagrams, I found it hard to choose. I liked most of the third blue/orange, but preferred the orange colour in the middle of the first one better. I thought the light colours and yellow in the middle of the third one wouldn't show up all the work in the blocks so much. As for the rainbow scrappy, it's really colourful. I don't think I could contemplate doing a second one, when mine is done, I'll need a bit of a rest, and also to catch up on everything I haven't done for the last six months.

Come on in, donīt quite understand what you mean by restart this "block", but if you mean restart your project DJ then show us what you have done and come on in anyways.

sandpat 06-13-2010 05:00 AM

Managed to take a pic of week 14 thru to 20 and then managed to delete it and as I had already put all my blocks out that I have done MISTAKES and all I will show you, they donīt look too bad, I am trying not to look at the ones I have to redo.

Butterflyspain 06-13-2010 05:08 AM

You see that dark one in the middle its got to get redone, it just doesnīt fit its too dark. Maybe if I take of the outer edges it might work better.

sandpat 06-13-2010 05:16 AM

Well, that does look fantastic all laid out in a group!!! On the dark one..I think just replace the very outer edges with the white...it will fit then I think. I just love all your special fussy cutting, it really shows up well. Certainly worth the time!

Butterflyspain 06-13-2010 05:30 AM

Thanks Patti, it was a bit of a swine to do so will try with the white muslin I just found first and then if its no good will have to do it again. Boo hoo

Lacelady 06-13-2010 06:37 AM

Rather than redo that dark one, make some more, then it won't look lonely or out of place, Elle. There are quite a few that have a lot of colour in them in the original - D1, D6, J2, M13 for instance. (plus a lot more).

Yes but its swiggly in the middle as well. But I will have a look at the blocks you are talking about.

Thanks Elle

So I bought some background fabric today. I am going to try and start on the current week and work backwards to catch up, but I can only do blocks I have fabric for too!! :) I am able to make block M-1 from this week in the blue and orange quilt, so i made it in my practice fabrics first. (Which will end up being a rainbow quilt). Hope you don't mind me sharing my very first Dear Jane block ....

It was fun, but wow this is gonna be hard huh?? hehe Guess it's good I am making a practice quilt too. :)

Cheers!

Well done Rachel, looking good. We did start with some easy ones first, I have found some of the blocks a bit tetchy to do as the weeks went on, Good luck, look forward to seeing more of your Rainbow

Lacelady 06-15-2010 12:49 AM

Looks good to me Rachel, you have taken the first step.

jolo 06-15-2010 03:23 AM

Pretty,lovely,gorgeous

athenagwis 06-15-2010 03:29 AM

Thanks everyone! I had to unsew only twice, but I think it helps to know that this is my practice quilt as I can make my mistakes here and then *hopefully* do them right on the orange and blue quilt.

I was able to find some Kona cotton at Joanns, I used a 50% off coupon so I got it for $3. Since Kaufman themselves came on here and said they never sell lower grade material to anyone, I am not worried about buying the fabric there. But they don't have all the shades I need, so I'll have to buy some online too I think. But if I can save myself some cost by buying in person, may as well.

My question for you is this. I am not usually a pre-washer, but I feel like I should for this quilt, however, the very thought of washing and subsequently ironing an eight yard piece of fabric makes me want to hurl. LOL I guess I could wait to iron when I actually cut a piece to make the block, but still. I also have a lot of fabrics that people gave me that are small, so I am not sure how I could wash those. Does anyone have sugegstions for this? Should I wash my fabrics? If so how could I wash the smaller pieces?

Thanks!!
Rachel

jolo 06-15-2010 03:33 AM

I dont prewash, but,I have a small mesh bag that I put my small pieces in to wash them. That should work.

sandpat 06-15-2010 05:12 AM

Rachel...your 1st block looks just perfect! If you are joining up with the current week...that will work out great because the schedule goes from 4 blocks/1 tri per week down to 3 blocks/1 tri per week for the summer. It will give you more of a chance to catch up. Also...I noticed that some of the easier blocks are in the summer so you could hopefully breeze through those fairly quickly. (I did 3 and a tri yesterday afternoon!)..so they are much quicker than some of the earlier one..

My hats off to you for doing 2 quilts!!

sandpat 06-15-2010 04:29 PM

Thanks Elle, I'll go looking for it.

I was just back on Lace's PDA drooling over her quilt again and it suddenly dawned on me....I forgot about the darn cornerstones!!!! I was so excited about settling on the chocolate sashing, that I just plain forgot about them...now I've got another decision to make...shoot...I'll have to go shopping again!!!
