I think they mean for the applique... hand applique is better done with very fine thread, silk is recommended but over here it's hard to get and rather expensive. I use a synthetic thread that's really fine, just as strong, and works great. |
i use silk for applique and i like to quilt with it too.

Ohhh, only for hand qpplique and hand quilting, I assume?

i use silk in my machine for applique and quilting too. silk is a very strong thread and can stand up to machine use.
i like YLI silk. i use this chart often to match a thread type to a needle and a use |
What is the recommended care for silk thread?
Can it be machine washed? Machine dried? |
yes, it can - but i don't use it for quilting on utility quilts but i will for applique.
i save silk machine quilting strictly for my art quilts because its very expensive to quilt with and my art quilting are never put in the washing machine. |
For those of you who like YLI silk thread, I highly recommend this web site. The prices are the best I've found, and delivery is prompt.
