Hi Again,

I will start by posting the block that I have made for April 2012. If you have already looked at the pattern you will see that I tweaked mine just a little. No surpeise, I am sure!! :D Instead of making the four corners I decided to put a darker border around my Tulip. I was just into purple this month, so I experimented on mine. Hope everyone like's my block & are excited to start pulling fabric's & getting a start on their's. Good Luck to you all & just haqve fun working on yours!!
:D :D :D :D

Sulabug I love the purples of your tulip :) Im loving this block so much Im sure I will have to make several because there will be so many fabric colors I will want to have it in. And Patrice Love your block also flowers are always so much fun and you can never have too many I my humble opinion. :) :) :) :) :)

SulaBug and Patrice: Both blocks are beautiful!

Sulabug, I love your purples...someday, I will make a quilt for myself and it will be in tones of purple, blues, aquamarine, they're soothing to me.

I can't see Patrice's picture, I can't only see the red X and the title of the block. Any ideas?

crafty pat 04-01-2012 10:45 AM

Love it. The colors are beautiful.

Floralfab 04-01-2012 12:55 PM

SulaBug, I love your purple tulip. It will be a fun block to make and will get us away from the machine for a bit.:o

Just finished mine this afternoon. Don't look too closely. It is my absolute first attempt at needle turn applique and i don't own matching silk thread. It was a fun block to make. It isn't perfect but I still love it.

Mariposa 04-02-2012 03:51 PM

Pretty blocks! :)

I think it is great. You don't have to use just silk thread. Not perfect is 'homemade"

I used silk thread, just not matching in color. Thanks for the compliment. I am pretty happy with it. My applique got better with each piece that I added. When it is done, it will be a wall hanging at work behind my desk so nobody will be examining that closely. I love doing this BOM. It is so much fun. I was very intimidated by needle turn applique. It isn't as difficult as I thought... and I will definitely do more.

Andii 04-02-2012 04:56 PM

hopetoquilt,
Very pretty-it's such a happy block. I think you did a really good job for your first applique. I have never used silk thread, does it feel any different to work with?

I feel like silk thread slides through the fabric more easily and is less noticeable than hand quilting thread or other threads.

I like your fabric and color combinations. Looks Rustic to me..and I love rustic. Im still auditioning fabrics for this block. I'm having trouble deciding. I love this block so much I am thinking about making one and substituting it for one of the blocks in the quilt Im working on for my grandaughter. Again wonderful block Hopetoquilt.

Oksewnsew 04-02-2012 06:16 PM

Very nice, HopetoQuilt...You're braver than I am, lolo - I always do applique by machine, using different stitches, depending on the item I'm appliquing. Kudos to you..

Here is my version of April Tulips. I want my quilt to be all paper pieced, so I selected a pattern from Carol Doak. It is actually called May Flowers.

Hopetoquilt, your applique block is beautiful! One wouldn't know it's your first needle turn applique!

Nicky, what a fun block and such bright beautiful colors! I never worked with Carol Doak's patterns but I think I should give it a try!

beginnerquilter 04-03-2012 03:53 AM

Both of these are sure beautiful...wow....love the colors.

Tweety2911 04-03-2012 04:34 AM

Loved seeing all the different blocks! So much talent! Still auditionaing fabrics also. Have only done machine applique and not too fond of it. Will try to do hand applique, such a pretty block deserves the best I can do:)

AddieLou 04-03-2012 08:54 AM

I have never done turn needle applique and am nervous about it. Need to find a tutorial. I almost chose this pattern to do as well! I'll have to see how the applique goes for me!

AddieLou.......I just know that you can do this applique' block with ease!! :D I was so nervous with my first one last year, but after giving it a go, it went together really nice. I chose to machine applique' mine instead of needle turn, but I love it either way. Good Luck.

Need Some Advice/Opinions

2 Attachment(s)
My April block is ready to be appliqued but I would like some opinions before I proceed. I will do the applique by machine (thumb problems - can't do hand work) and can't decide if I want to do satin stitch or blanket stitch. I am also torn between doing all the applique in one color thread (what color?????) or in varigated thread. The pic shows my block and the thread I am thinking about for the flower and one for the leaves. Help! All suggestions welcome - criticisms, not so much.... :D
Thanks!
