Nice job, Mimi, and congratulations on finishing! I completed my top with a bunch of paper pieced blocks as sashing, and now just need to quilt it.

I finally finished my Houses BOM quilt top and it is at the LA quilter right now! I wanted to FMQ but didn't have the courage to do a 90" x 90." I will post a pic here as soon as I am done with the binding.

Any others finishes out there?

Hi Rachelle, that is one of my favorite blocks, and I also enlarged it and included it in my 2011 BOM Houses quilt. The patterns is free, from a Dutch website. I am not sure the instructions are in English for this particular pattern but if you need help, let me know. Here is the link: http://www.wilmakarels.nl/blokken.php?jaar=2004

huntersgrammie 07-27-2012 08:41 PM

Hi Cheryl! I ended up with 16 twelve inch blocks, and then framed each of those with 6x6, 6x12 and 6x18 paper pieced blocks, so that the 12" blocks are somewhat offset. Hard to explain until you see it. It is quite busy but I am very pleased with it.

Sorry Rachelle. FMQ is free motion quilting. That is quilting done on a home machine, instead of a long arm machine. You move the fabric under the needle, instead of moving the machine over the quilt. For more information, see Leah Day's blog at http://www.freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/.

Hi Rachelle, there is so much information out there. Check out www.caroldoak.com. Carole is THE paper piecing guru. She has some easy beginner blocks you can download for free. Also, some wonderful books with patterns. At the beginning of each book she gives a wonderful tutorial on her technique. She also has a Yahoo Group where she designs blocks just for the group and everyone makes and shares photos. I started off paper piecing on my own, and later learned a lot by following her suggestions.

She also has posted the tutorial right on her blog. Here is the link. Have fun!!! http://www.caroldoak.com/weblog/?p=928 .

huntersgrammie 07-28-2012 09:10 AM

nicky, thank you so much for all your help. i really appreciate it. rachelle

whitepine 07-29-2012 07:05 AM

Nicky, It would be fun to see your quilt both on your computer program and then again "in person." I'm going to get mine out and take an unfinished picture. I decided to stop at a twin size :) but still have a border or so to go.

nickylsf 07-29-2012 07:14 AM

Thank you WhitePine, that is all the encouragement I needed! Will post it as soon as I get home from Sacramento. We watched the Sacramento Mile last night.

I have finally finished my 2011 blocks! Yea! I changed October's block to something that I could paper piece, although I did love that selection, but just didn't want to do any applique...lazy me! I will put flying geese and other blocks for dividers and such and hopefully get the top finished soon...my DH loves these blocks more than others I've made, so guess I'll have to finish it up and give it to him! Thanks for looking!

Ronda your house blocks are beautiful. Makes me want to pull mine out of the UFO box and work on them. :) Though I already have enough on my plate so those blocks will have to wait a little longer. :)

I don't usually like to post unfinished quilts, but since you insist, Whitepine, here is a photo of my Virtual Houses quilt! The real thing, entitled "Gimme Shelter" is at the LAQ right now.

huntersgrammie 07-29-2012 11:30 AM

Goodness, Whitepine, why would you be embarassed? Yours is beautiful! I love how you did the cornerstones in different colors as well as the border. It's finished and I love it.

huntersgrammie 07-29-2012 10:35 PM

Jeanine 07-30-2012 06:15 AM

Whitepine: your's is so bright and cheerful. It will be sooo loved. The lights in the windows look so inviting. A home town. What is the other border you'll be putting on?

chickadee_42us 07-30-2012 06:43 AM

This is gorgeous - love your interpretation.

WhitePine, I love your quilt. The only reason I added so many blocks is that I needed it much bigger. Yours is gorgeous and all the blocks go together so well.

huntersgrammie 08-15-2012 05:20 PM

nicky its beautiful congrats on a job well done and good luck with the competitions let us know how you do

whitepine 08-16-2012 12:43 PM

Nicky, Very cool!! I love the tree beside the castle. Did you find a pattern for that one? Also love the mountains. I think I can even design that myself and use as corners in my last border. A 'must' since we have so many mountains around here.
