Oh, Don't be Scared  It really does go together easily. If need be, you might want to practice a bit, first!! Good Luck.

Sulabug, I love it! A beautiful way to start this BOM!

My first as well, but I'm excited! Let's see if my prediction is correct...I think I will enjoy paper piecing.

hobbykat1955 01-01-2011 04:41 AM

linmid 01-01-2011 05:39 AM

Oh yeah here we go. I am so looking forward to this. This will be my first attempt to paper piece. Oh well nothing ventured nothing gained.

candi 01-01-2011 05:54 AM

Happy New Year, everyone.
Sulabug, I love this block you are starting out with. Awesome start!
I printed my templates out. I think I am planning on making two of each block each month, to end up with 24 blocks for a bigger quilt....we'll see!

Midwestmary 01-01-2011 06:10 AM

I love the block - now it's time to settle on fabric....hoping to get some major quilting time in this afternoon!!! This is going to be a fun challenge :)

violetsfarm 01-01-2011 06:21 AM

Not that I need another project but can't resist this one. Count me in. Violet

mommamac 01-01-2011 06:51 AM

Perfect house to start the year with - it looks so 'pieceful'.
Now to find the fabrics ...

Blinky 01-01-2011 07:00 AM

Oh boy ...this is my first paper piecing project! I printed off the instructions on that website for paper piecing so I can practice first. I think the blue batik for sky was a good choice too!

sewhappy30 01-01-2011 07:08 AM

I just printed out the 3 templates. This will be my first BOM. I'm so excited about all the different houses. This church is absolutely awesome, what a great choice to get started with.

I love love love paper piecing. I can't wait to get started and thank goodness we have a whole month to make each block, that way I can probably keep up.
Good luck everyone I can't wait to see all the different, beautiful pictures of each house as we go along.

meesabell 01-01-2011 07:15 AM

I just printed off my pieces. Had to fiddle with the sizing but all ok. I will do the test piece first since this is my first time too! Then on to the House of God. ;-)

don't be scared - nervous ok - not scared.

print off their practice piece or something simple

quiltinghere 01-01-2011 07:40 AM

I just printed off 1 page and the 1" test square does not equal 1". Using Opera browser...gonna try IE to see if that'll allow me to resize or print actual size without modification.

ETA: I was able to print it off and get the 1" test square to be 1" using Internet Explorer.

If there is a better way, I don't know it. I have to copy/paste into Word (word processing) and resize the pics to "100%". If there is an easier way to print from Firefox, please let me know. TIA!

Oh, and doing the test piece really helped give me a good idea and to make sure to have enough overlap for seam allowances.

raedar63 01-01-2011 09:33 AM

Dang I wish I didn't have to go to bed this is such a nice block, and did you look at the finished ones on the site? The table runner would have been perfect for my moms B-day tomorrow, Since I am a procrastinator though I will be comming home after a 13 hr night and finishing pillow cases:(

angels13blue 01-01-2011 10:37 AM

I totally agree , perfect first block !!!!!!!! Thanks

Blinky 01-01-2011 11:30 AM

Oh my...i am glad someone mentioned the test square...i wouldn't have noticed it...lol i have firefox and it didn't print the right size test square so will go to IE or try the word processing if i have word processing ;o(

laureneberhard 01-01-2011 11:36 AM

Thanks for choosing 'God's House' first. What a great way to start off the year and this BOM. Planning on sewing mine at a retreat next weekend. Is it Feb. 1 yet?

Blinky 01-01-2011 11:44 AM

I did it! I did it! I copied and pasted it into my Publisher program and resized the test block to 1 inch! I am so proud of myself. I just learned something new!!...and I bet there will be something new with every block :o)

TymeToShine 01-01-2011 12:39 PM

What a great one to start off. Will be my first attempt at paper piecing and at BOM but first I need to figure out how to get all the test sqaures the same size. Each one printed a different size.

francesrose 01-01-2011 01:15 PM

A great way to start the new year. I have never paper pieced before but I sure am going to give it a big try. Francesrose

eimay 01-01-2011 01:21 PM

Thanks, Sulabug.

Geowyn 01-01-2011 01:30 PM

How did you fiddle with the sizing. I have tried printing it in Foxfire and IE, also saved it as a jpg and brought it into Paint Shop pro, then tried it in Word and I can't seem to get the test block to equal one inch.
Help anyone???? Thanks so much

ann clare 01-01-2011 01:53 PM

I have to practice paper piecing for a bit. Did some ages ago but have forgotten.

PokerDiva 01-01-2011 01:53 PM

I had two that printed ok and one that didn't. I think I printed from a different area. Anyway, I went to print setup and changed my margins and it was set to fit paper and I unclicked that. Try that. It worked for me.

leakus 01-01-2011 03:19 PM

Just the Template A didn't print the 1" correctly. I just reprinted changing paper to Landscape. Worked. Now to start!

francesrose 01-01-2011 03:33 PM

I got the e-mail that there were more replys on the new block. sure glad that they talked aboout the test square. I am so new that I didnot know enough to look at it. i had two good templatees and one no good. Put the block on lanscape and then 199% and got it right. thanks for the help. francesrose

francesrose 01-01-2011 03:37 PM

I meant landscape and 100% Francesrose

I wish I knew of an easier way. I use Firefox too, and many PP templates seem to get off somehow. I just go to Print Preview, and print setup and keep adjusting the scale until the test square measures 1''. My laptop doesn't like IE one bit, and the other computer is a MAC, requiring even more fiddling, LOL.

Geowyn, in Word rt. mouse click on the jpg,
then select "Format Picture",
select the "Size" tab at top,
under "Scale" change height and width to 100%,
press "Ok".

That should do it! If you need more specifics, let me know! :-D

I am having that problem with the sizing on the first page and I have no idea how to fix it. I guess I will fool around with it and try to get it to fit.

This may be the "easier" way I was hoping for! Thanks, I'll try this next time...less steps involved.

Thanks Pokerdiva, now the test sq is 1 in. I am not very apt with my printer and computer, still have a lot to learn and try to "remember"

I found that I needed to print one of them in the landscape mode to get the size correct

Try changing your paper layout to landscape instead of portrait...
