Good morning ladies all the blocks are looking awesome... I'm thinking on my block for June still. I printed out a Carol Doaks PP Birdhouse and then was going to applique around it..but Im still not off the fence to commit myself to it yet. Looking forward to seeing more blocks for this month. Have a grand day. :) :) :)

urgodschild2 06-06-2012 07:08 AM

Ok my creative juices are flowing here. I started cutting out the pieces for the block and then I got carried away and made my own. LOL. Now I have to sew it all together but I have to wait until my daughter wakes up as she is in my sewing room. Maybe I could make some loud noises?
My brain is also thinking of embroidering birdies on it. I am excited to get going on it.

urgodschild2...........Your Home Tweet Home Birdhouse block for the June 2012 BOM project is so cute!! :D I love your idea of making three little bird houses, you have a nice little neighborhood there!! :D Did you hand embroider the darling little birds? You have done a marvelous job with your block this month. Thank you for sharing!!
:D :D :D :D

urgodschild2 06-07-2012 06:13 AM

thanks Sulabug.....yes I did hand embroider the birdies. This was fun to make. I was up in Vegas over last weekend and got to visit my first HObby Lobby store. they had birdhouses all over the place in the most adorable designs and it sparked my creative juices flowing. LOL.

I just have to say that you did a remarable job on embroidering your birds!! I wish that we had a Hobby Lobby some where in our area too. I have never been to one, maybe someday. I think bird house are really neat. I have decorated our kitchen using them up on the sofit's. Keep up the beautiful work.

Uh... looks a bit better in person. 2 pp birdhouses but the second one is 6" unfinished so I had to add another strip. Now it looks choppy. I feel like I should add a flower or something b/w the birdhouses. What do you think. I am seeking some constructive advice.

klgreene 06-07-2012 06:06 PM

It doesn't look choppy at all, just looks PP. A flower would look cute, but I don't think it needs it. If you do put in a flower, use an S stem that crosses the middle seam. But seriously I don't think you need it. JMO

I wasn't overly fond of the one posted, or any of the patterns I could find, so I drafted one myself.. it's mighty huge. It's a 20x20. I think I can fit a few birdie families in it. I chose a green floral pattern to try to represent a meadow or something. Maybe should have put a little strip of blue above it and below the "porch". Meh. Not bad for a first try.

hopetoquilt.......your birdhouses couldn't be any cuter!! I just love them. I am also a pp'd fan, so they look great to me. If you wanted to add a flower you could, but it wouldn't be necessary. I think I will copy your idea of the button's on my birdhouse, if that is okay with you. It needs something, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it!! Thank you for sharing with all of us.

Anastasia...........OMGoodness, for a first try you have made a marvelous birdhouse!! :D I love your pattern, it is really nice. It surely will house a lot of little bird families, that's for sure. The fabric you selected for the meadow is so pretty & I wouldn't change a thing about it. Congratulation's & thank you for sharing with all of us!!

Judy Nice Block :) Aren't Birdhouses fun :) I like the browns you used. Brown fabrics have always been my favorite. :)

So I finished working on my block today. Seeing we are at the half way point I decided I would also post a picture of all my six blocks together. Wow only six more blocks togo.. As always once I post my block I dont want to hurry life along, but Im always looking forward to the beginning of the next month to see what new block is posted and what challenges it can bring. :) I started to do a PP birdhouse then I decided I would stick with the Applique method. I used English Paper Piecing for the birdhouse and the stems, vines and flowers are done using a method Muv (boardname) posted a how to in the tutorial section on this Board. Thanks for looking everyone and have a wonderful evening.

I've got the purple block done. My goal was to make this one look like a page from a scrapbook. Don't know if I will do the other the same, or completely different.

All the blocks are beautiful! I love the realism of the fabric of the bluebird block and the shading on the pears and leaves is 3 dimensional.
