1 May 2012 Calender BOM Pattern & Discussion
 

Hi all,

This is Anael and I have the honor of picking the May pattern for the 2012 Calender BOM! Though it has been quite cold flowers are blooming here too. I picked the block Oh Susannah because my mom had her birthday in May, she loved flowers and she loved to sing.

As you can see in the picture I altered the center of the block a bit. The color 1 triangles (which in my block are black instead of blue) are a bit smaller to make the block look more like a flower.
I hope you all like the block. It's an easy one (I think) and I hope you will have fun making it.

@MdmSew'nSew: the black squares are 2.5", I cut 2, cut both once diagonal.

made the block i know im not in group but ty for idea now if i could get middle right next one:thumbup:[ATTACH=CONFIG]332188[/ATTACH] shouldve checked again after making it well not sewed completly so i can rip some.

I don't know why I do my block right away, because I have to wait an entire month for the next block. I'm working on the Calendar quilt for my DGD so I made this a sunflower, but put an applique middle of the flower, and added a little lady bug. We aren't even 6 months into this yet and I can't wait to see the rest of the years blocks. And see everyones finished quilt.

As usual, you have made another great block for the month of May!! :D The lady bugs just makes your beautiful Sunflower so perfect. Your DGD Is so going to love & cherish this quilt, when you get it all done. Thank you for sharing with all of us here on the Quilting Board!!

ladies, is there a group to join or can I LURK AND SEW TOO? sorry, hit the caps by mistake. I have a bit of fabric to use and will make a few red/white/blue blocks for a gal here on the board who is doing quilts for wounded warriers/vets.

ooops, I found the rules thread-I can play. :o now 1 more dumb question-are we supposed to use the suggested colors of the "picker"?

You can do anything you want. I'm working on quits for my DGD's other for them selves, some just to do them. It's just to have fun. Welcome aboard.

Using up a new scrap stash someone gave me. Thought I'd try. This is only the 3rd block I've ever made in my life. I had one tiny little mishap but.. it's ok.

Great job, that's not what my 3rd ever block looked like, heck after a million blocks I think I've made, still have mishaps. Hang in there, you are a natural.

Thanks. I get a little OCD sometimes. My mother has been quilting forever and I watch and help but never sew.

WOW!! :D Your "Oh Suzanna" block for the month of May, couldn't have turned out any nicer. I think you did a great job for this only being the third block you have made. Good for you. I'm just waiting for the june block too. I think we are all getting busier too with the warmer weather.gardens,kids graduationg etc.Seems like we are also trying to be more creative with the assigned block,which takes more time. They are sure turning out great though.Mary

klgreene and oksewnsew - beautiful blocks!!! Is it June yet?

I know this month seemed to go very slow. But I did get a lot accomplished, still have quilting to do, so I have a couple more days before I start all over. I do my BOM's then back to old UFO's. I have to get all my UFO's quilted in 2012, before I start my next large project.

A lot of possibilities with fabric choices and interesting placement.
