Judy do you think that flannel plaid shirts would work in this mystery? My husband just passed away and I was in the process of cutting apart about 12 of them to make lap size quilts for our children/GC. I love your mysteries and this could be part of the healing process. I could add some cream or white flannel for the neutrals.

Thank-you suzisew for posting those delete instructions. Now I can delete 1/2 of my old threads. Again thank-you for the directions.

I tried pulling just fabrics I wanted to use from my scraps and gave up. Their are just too many scraps. I am just going to pick one container and go from there. I spent yesterday afternoon (well part of it) LOL ironing background fabric. I think I will try to use white on white for the background.
Carol I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Carol. What a wonderful idea to use his flannel shirts in a memory quilt. I think you would be okay. Since most flannel shirts are plaid, I think you could get enough of the pattern to show. If you add a cream, make sure to wash and dry twice so it doesn't shrink and distort your quilt.

Cathy and Teen - looks like you are all set for Saturday!

Lynnie - send me a PM and let me know what you will be buying for. I thought you mentioned you had lots of scraps but needed neutrals. If neutrals, I would suggest yardage, some 1/4 yard and maybe a few 1/8 yd pieces. On Saturday, you will see what you need to get started . The Joann FQs are usually not a great selection or quality for the neutrals.

Sunrise - yeah, just wait for the clue before pulling stuff out of bins.

Hi everyone. My name is Debrae and I have been a member for a long time, but I haven't been on in a while. I would love to join in on your mystery train ride.

Judy, I am so happy to hear that the plaid flannels will work for this. Now I really need to get busy disassembling them. Your mysteries and the group that does them are all so helpful and encouraging.
Thank you Judy, Teen and Sunrise for the condolences - this has been a difficult week, but all the prayers and kind words really, really help and a short mystery seems to be something that I can handle right now.

I would highly suggest giving your flannels some spray starch, or Mary Ellen's Best Press before cutting. You may want to rough cut along the seams and press a fair sized piece. Flannel shifts and stretches, as you know, and you may not get all your pieces on the straight of grain. There will be quite a bit of handling and pressing. You might want to over-cut Saturday's clue just a bit, so the blocks end up at the correct size.
