I'm jealous and I'm going to be more jealous as you all go for this ride!
Unfortunately, I couldn't come along this time. Have fun! Watson |
Macybaby- I really love that grey! On second thought- re: my comment on the snow the other day. I think I wouldn't like it in April either!!! But it sure was a beautiful pic :)
Paintmejudy- everyone has left Utica practically. It's a ghost town, sadly. I would never live there now. |

Blocks finished. :-)
I'm using brown tones and have done all the pinwheels the same. Background blocks are different fabrics. |
there are some pretty blocks so far!
bneuen, love your colors - I love browns/creams. I'm not going to work on mine for a while, I don't really like any of the options I've come up with. Though I do know that no matter what I go with, someone will love it. And since my plan is to give away most of what I make, that works. I think I'll make another trip to the fabric store and see what I can find. I think maybe a bold black/white print may work. |
Macybaby, I liked your first plan with the dark gray but agree that it might be too dark. Maybe a lighter shade of gray.
|
Lots of pretty pinwheels and blocks showing up. Nice veriety of colors too.
|
variety ,sorry teachers .lol
|
retired, m-fay and bneuen all very nice blocks

my surprise

these are the fat quarters I came home to find. I think I will go somewhat bigger for the quilt. I lam thinking red for the background.

Kathryn , those are really pretty. I just love FQ's. They give you a chance to have lots of fabric without a lot of expense .
|
Are we doing anything with the "bonus triangles" trimmed from the corners?

I stopped at the fabric store on my way home and picked up a few more options. I'm going to really miss this place when they are gone, but right now it's fun taking advantage of 30% off.
The bad part - I decided to stop on my way home after I was at work, so I didn't bring anything with me. I got the blue because I knew it would work, if I decided the other two didn't after all. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psehg7lxdw.jpg I was hoping this fabric would work, but think the red may not go as well as I hoped. But I love it anyway. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psf1gt1z2f.jpg And then this black/grey/white print. I think right now I'm liking this the best. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psr4fztgxk.jpg The main reason I don't want to go with the gold in the first group is I have several red/gold quilts already. I guess I like that combination, but want something different this time. |
Ooooo like the black print.
|
I'm going to do gray & teal. That's my son's colors for his new house. In the middle of cleaning out my sewing room now so it will have to wait another day or two. Then again, that's a never ending job.
|
Macy my vote is for the black print, I think it will be great. When you cut the 4-1/2" blocks, try and get them to have as much black in the block as possible. Next week, it won't matter as much when you use your background.
|
Thanks Judy!
I have to be in the office the rest of the week, so I think I'll just wait until the next clue to cut into it. |

Here is my selected fabrics ready for the next clue....and I am also doing the 18 mystery between the clues on this one LOL LOL

I decided to use batiks. Here is my first one.
|
Chasezzz, I'm the same way! I really like the controlled colors better, guess it is in my comfort zone :) I haven't even picked out fabric yet but I'm printing out the instructions and hopefully will catch up. Life seems to have gotten in the way since we've been home, Wyoming, and I have a customer quilt order that I'm trying to get done. It's not a little quilt, will end up about 105" X 105", it will sure be the limit of my long arm table. I brought home 7 quilts that I sewed together in Florida that need to be quilted also. Might be like last year....get them quilted and take to Florida next October to sew on binding and get them finished:)
|
Jaba, hello! I've missed you!
|
Oh! what a sweet thing to say, thank you, I've missed you too!!
|
More pretty blocks!
Chasezzz: I am doing controlled fabrics for this one also. However, I do like scrappy quilts and I usually make more of them than controlled but I sometimes feel it is easier to have the fabrics preselected so I can just grab, iron, cut, and sew rather than dig through my scraps. :). This is one of those times. |
Chasezzz, I know you aren't comfortable with scrappy, that's fine, and I think that is why I tried to give directions for yardage for you and those who want to do a mystery, but don't do scrappy. It's all good and they will all be beautiful in the end.

I’ve started laying out my scrappy pinwheels. I ended up making enough hst’s for 18 blocks instead of 9. So, I had to make 2 more for a 4x5 layout.

love all the pictures!
We are having another snowstorm here - got 3" overnight and should get another 3" during the day. Guess we aren't going to have spring this year. This storm is tracking east and the worst should hit Iowa. I am so sick of white! I may need to dig out some really bright colors to work with for a while. |
dhanke I love the peaceful look of your blocks- so pretty!
|
Pretty colors.
|
dhanke love these blocks

Hmmmmm. I'm not liking my background fabric. Too much purple and it doesn't go as well with the other batiks as I thought it would. I'm not finished with the background squares so maybe I'll wait for another clue before making more. I wonder what it would look like if the background fabric was of different colors -- a different color for each block??
|
white pine, If anything, I would maybe try a different background, one with more contrast with the light, medium and dark. Wouldn't need to be a batik. You will want the contrast in the upcoming weeks.I love all your batiks.
|
OK. Thanks Judy. I'll keep on searching.

I have all of my scrappy pinwheels sewn together. I just started the backgrounds with the darks. Here’s a sample. The darks all look black in the pix but they’re really dark greens and browns. Do you think the peach background works?
|
Yes, I think it's a great choice! Makes it all look so warm and cozy!
