I don't remember how I made BR11, but I probably paperpieced it. I'm a devoted paperpiecer, especially when working on 4 1/2" blocks, but I never tear the paper. I didn't like it either til I started using the freezer paper method.

That quilt is phenomenal! Both the piecing and the quilting! It makes me even more determined to learn to handquilt!

Yep.... re-thinking nixing the handquilting myself!

Here is BR11 - I did PP the top section - but for the entire bottom-mid section, I measured and put it together in strips. The large squares finish 1 1/4" so are cut at 1 3/4" - the small squares finish a scant 3/8" so are cut 7/8" and sewn with somewhat generous 1/4" seams. all other rectangles are cut accordingly.... red and background cut at 7/8x 1 3/4" etc. lower and upper setting triangles cut 2 1/8" [use the half square triangle formula - finished 'square' size would be 1 1/4" - add 7/8" and so cut 2 1/8"

again... confused or rather PP - go for it! you will definitely get the same result :)

Gus - you are really steaming ahead - lovely blocks and triangles. I paperpieced my BR11 -- I had to look it up as I had done mine last August. It is still VERY quiet on here !!!!
The hand quilting on the DJ in bunnyhill blog is stunning - I do have to say - it looks wonderful and I know I should hand quilt - but can I ??? ---- it won't look like that !!

Have a nice Easter weekend.

You do the same Dotty :)
and you are right ....very quiet! I must clean my house and get prepared to have Easter dinner here [not to mention get taxes done.....ugggghhhh] so I may be quiet for a short time as well - or at least should be :(

I dont know if you handquilt Dotty?? I'm actually going to try the Liuxin Newman method [http://www.thimblelady.com/] my friend got her stuff a few days back. I think it will go more quickly than traditional quilting in a hoop.
we shall see....
Happy Easter
Gus

Gus, if you haven't visited Anina's "thatquilt" site in a while, take a look. She's playing around with how she's going to quilt her current DJ and it looks like she's going to machine quilt it. She seems to have decided to quilt only the background, but these are practice pieces, so maybe not.

I'm back from my quilt retreat (tons of fun, but I did not take DJ with me) and recovering from internet woes. It's so good to see all the absolutely beautiful blocks!!! I need to review and take some notes. Thanks for all the tips. It's going to be a busy week for me and I do want to finish my last kite before I get back on to the schedule. I'm getting further behind - yikes - I'll keep plugging along, though.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/general...ml#post5968820 Don't know if this link will work but it is my thread in General Chit Chat, I've posted pictures of my dogs. Did not get a chance to work on DJ but perhaps by the week's end.

A while ago we were talking about batting. I just found a package of the one I like the best: Soft Touch by Fairfield. "100% bleached cotton, no need to pre-soak, soft and easy to needle, creates an antique look, hand or machine quilting." It does not say how closely you need to place the quilting. If anyone would like a little piece just PM me with your address. I'm happy to send you a small piece (whatever I can fit into a regular sized envelope).

Also, I mentioned silk batting. I forgot to say that it's recommended that you wear some kind of gloves when working with it. I wore the thinner disposable rubber gloves - look like the medical kind. I forgot to put them on one day when working with it and it really did hang up on each little rough patch on my hands, hangnails, etc.

The triangle looks great!! I was not brave enough to do those only most of the body of the DJ quilt.
