Wow, hot sex, cheesecake and chocolate wine? This is going to be one fun ride. I've pulled my fabrics and cut into squares. I'm going to sew this evening. I didn't count, but I figure I have 15 - 16 different fabrics in each stack and I cut two of each. I'm planning on making them all up as that is a good size to have on hand for other projects if I don't use them in this one.

quilt addict 01-10-2015 05:17 PM

Just finished up my Bonnie Hunter MQ top! So onto the next, well I checked my already cut 3.5" squares and don't have that many. So will be sewing and cutting if I can stay out of the club car. Wow busy folks today. Judy thanks for doing this for us to enjoy.

Cindy60545 01-10-2015 05:26 PM

Well, I just finished mine. Took me a little longer to do 'cuz I unpacked my Christmas present to sew it on. DH got me the Babylock Anna for Christmas so I can have a machine to take to guild & classes. My Esante is just too heavy. Anna was really easy to learn! 1/4" was perfect too!

Blue Bell 01-10-2015 05:40 PM

This is my first time on the train ride. Joining in for all the fun.

VickiM 01-10-2015 05:55 PM

I'm in again...love your mysteries, Judy! Will go through the already cut 3 1/2" box & see what I can come up with tomorrow. Will work on this as a leader/ender since I'm already working on 3 other mysteries right at this time. BHGI, a president's challenge going on in N.C. at my daughter's guild, and Quiltmaker Mystery. Hope I can keep up with them all!:)

I made 24 sets. don't know if i'm doubling it or just making 2 quilts. want one for charity. maybe both.

SunlitenSmiles 01-10-2015 07:20 PM

There has been an outbreak if "four patch fever" call the CQC (center for quilt control)

latest info.... will last 7 days, before being dangerous

Pretty and a nice arrangement, but I hope we don't have to sew them in a circle! :)

Roma Bauder 01-10-2015 08:31 PM

I'm running trying to catch the train.................

m-fay 01-11-2015 04:26 AM

I'm in too but I'm away from home so can't sort my scraps till Friday.

Caroline S 01-11-2015 05:01 AM

Will be jumping on the train at the next stop. I MUST finish quilting a quilt and get another one off the design wall. A warning to my stash, Judy's Mystery Train #8 and I are coming for you.

Julienm1 01-11-2015 05:04 AM

Nuts the train just left the station as I was running to catch it. Guess I'll jump on when it passes next time. Heard noise in my fabric room last night. Think it was the scraps hiding.

jmoore 01-11-2015 05:06 AM

Just realized today was Sunday and that I missed your first clue yesterday... didn't want to miss out on the fun so jumped on board in the knick of time. Judy, thank you for taking the time to do conduct the mystery train rides.

Siodach 01-11-2015 05:46 AM

Hi there I'm hoping to jump on board the train by Tuesday, currently running alongside on a galloping horse .

Quick question for Judy - is there any reason to say I couldn't substitute these 4-patches with string blocks?

I've used most of my larger scraps, but do have a drawer-full of strings which are crying out for attention :D

baronreads 01-11-2015 06:10 AM

I probably won't get around to looking at scraps until Tue or Wed. I'm hoping I can use a bunch of my late MIL fabric for this! Love the fact that the first clue is a four square! That's about my speed after the BH Mystery Quilt, which STILL has a long way to go! LOL<script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/bdd6863e/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

Grammahunt 01-11-2015 06:33 AM

What a wonderful way to use up our scraps. Thanks to Judy and thanks to my sister Jo for telling me about this project. I've already spent a couple years (yes years) trying to use up the scraps I've collected while I've been quilting and buying more fabric. Now I'm trying to clean it all up and find I have way more scraps and fabrics than I know of. Maybe I'll even do two "train #8" quilts.

I have a zillion quilting goals for 2015. Unfortunately I didn't include any housekeeping type goals, so today I won't let myself work on my four patches until I do some cleaning. Bummer! Bet I set a world speed record cleaning today. So look for a case of Four Patch Fever to break out about midafternoon.

Anoka Quilter 01-11-2015 07:08 AM

Looking forward to the ride, it should be a good one. Have some other commitments today, but I will get my four patches sewn before next Saturday. Thank you Judy. I sure it will be a very fun and scrappy quilt.

Belfrybat 01-11-2015 07:20 AM

Four patch fever -- like that term! Our pastor cancelled church this morning as there's a severe outbreak of 'flu in the county and folks are being cautioned not to gather in groups. Seems strange to be home on a Sunday morning.

I dropped off some breakfast tacos in the club car. Egg and bacon and (my favourite) bean and cheese. Oh, and two jars of homemade salsa also. The one with the red ribbon tied around it is really spicy, so be careful but the other jar is mild.

sunrise450 01-11-2015 07:24 AM

Was not on the 'puter enough to catch the first clues for this mystery. I was cleaning my sewing room. Ha! Ha! I have a block to finish and get ready to mail and some blocks to finish for a swap. That will leave me with two swaps and then I can start this adventure!
I have a large collection of 5" charms that is the result of many swaps that I hosted many years ago. They have to be used up. I'm wondering about sewing them into 4-patches and then trimming them back to a 61/2" square would be the way to go. It seems like it would take less time then trimming them (the charms) back individually then sewing and and trimming again. Hope this makes sense!
If I hurry I can still catch the train, if not then I will get on at the station next Saturday! See you there!

paintmejudy 01-11-2015 07:50 AM

Wow, lots of activity yesterdya, sorry I missed it all. I had been to an all day embroidery workshop on Thursday and taught a mystery one-day class at my LQS on Friday, so was really exhausted yesterday. Read and puttered all day yesterday, was not at all productive!

Siodach, yes you can use strings for the 6-1/2" center, but I don't think you will be able to use strings for the rest of the quilt. Well, MAYBE in week 4 you could use strings again, you will have to look at the clue and decide what you want to do. Would that work for you?

Grammahunt, making the amount for two tops would give you enough for a nice sized quilt if you wanted a bigger one.

Sunrise, yes, making a 4-patch of your charms and then trimming to 6-1/2" would by far be the quickest way to go.

So nice to see all the returning faces, it lets me know you like my little mysteries! There are also some silent returnees (is that a word?) who I haven't seen posting, but got a PM from a few of you. And lots of new faces, too, I hope you'll have fun on this ride, we are a great bunch to travel with, as you can see already from all the chatter.

paintmejudy 01-11-2015 07:53 AM

Oh, and meant to say, all of you running a bit behind, I've asked the engineer to slow waaaay down so you can hop on board, don't want you to have to wait for the next station stop!

lawsonmugs 01-11-2015 08:03 AM

Wow, I just seen this train start today and already there are 7 pages to read. I think it will be another great ride Judy. Thanks again, this is my third ride and it promises to be another interesting and fun time. Gotta go get my scraps ready,

dotcomdtcm 01-11-2015 08:27 AM

If you don't have a 3.5" template, this is a good time to pick one up.
And treat yourself to a new blade.

SunlitenSmiles 01-11-2015 08:32 AM

the sewing and then trimming to size works great .... one of my four patches was made from a charm, a 4 inch square (give away at a quilt run) and two leftover 6 inch blocks....ok wasted a bit of fabric but it probably would never have gotten to be in a quilt otherwise.... so the fabric is happy and it really made me smile as I trimmed it to size after final pressing.

Evie 01-11-2015 09:02 AM

I made it. Thanks for slowing down the train, Judy! Hope the coffee pot is full 'cuz I brought some cranberry-orange scones to munch on.

Lucille 01-11-2015 09:12 AM

I want to join the Mystery Train Rid # 8. Hope the following steps will be on this quiltingboard.com so now I will get busy and sew my 12 4 patches. Thanks for the mystery.

Mine are done. A couple of the squares look a little light but I will reconsider them later.

paintmejudy 01-11-2015 09:36 AM

Florence, don't change anything right now, you might be able to work around your lighs. But they sure are pretty all laid out like this!

Dotty, you are absolutely right -- a 3-1/2" square is invaluable!

Is it Saturday yet? No? Oh darn, can't wait. Maybe I should have made this one a three-hour mystery, I think someone did something like that one time. I could post late Friday night, and everyone would have all day to finish!

oksewglad 01-11-2015 10:06 AM

Hey maybe I will hitch a ride...just what I need..another project! LOL.

Honchey 01-11-2015 10:24 AM

Oksewglad, Can I be your caboose???

lynnie 01-11-2015 10:50 AM

I won't complain if you post early on Friday night. i'll just cancel date night with dh and stay in and sew. we can go out on sat afternoon when the movies are cheaper anyway.

I have two sets now complete. don't know if i'm doing a big one or two smaller ones. guess we'll have to wait and see.

siodach, love the idea of using stringblocks, that sounds exciting

Hello....I want to hop on,too! Had lurked along the last two mysteries and love all the results. I'm doing a "leftovers" theme, rather than pure scrappy. Hope this palette works!

MamaHen 01-11-2015 11:35 AM

Think I'll try & hop on this train too, need something to light a fire under me. When I get there i'll bring the brownies.

lynnie 01-11-2015 11:46 AM

sue, love your warm color scheme. looks Christmassy. Reminds me of my old Catholic school uniform

You bet! Any time.

reeskylr 01-11-2015 01:39 PM

Woohoo, found you guys. I had almost forgot then I noticed my tiny print on the old calendar :) I made Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies last night, I'll put them in the club car. :)

mom-6 01-11-2015 03:12 PM

Almost done with assembling #7. So maybe tomorrow I can start in this one. Really like the look of the reds, greens, burgundy. Think I may see about using some of my Christmas fabrics on this.

Where are my 4 patches. Thanks for an easy clue to start with Judy. We had our daughter & 3 grandsons here & all went to visit our youngest son's new baby boy born 1/5/15 so it was a very busy weekend but I got my clue done, yah!
