My block 11. I did the embroidery on the green before adding it onto the black, but you could do it after, once the black has been trimmed away.
I put the flower in the middle of my background (and cut a way behind, as before) Appliqued the green to the black, Not tucking under where the heart flowers were going Using a template to redraw over the green Hearts added The back Detail |
These are beautiful blocks! I think the embroidery adds so much to the design!

Very nice.

What a great idea to do the embroidery on "itself" so to speak before adding it to the backgroun. How did you get so smart Lesley?

Here is my Block 11.
|
More beautiful blocks. I know I keep repeating myself on every thread, but they are gorgeous.
|
Lesley great idea, your Dad was clever heh ??? I love your block
Kathy your block is beautiful and I love your colour choices Elle |
Oooh, Kathy, I like this one - it's fun choosing fabrics, isn't it?
|
Yea, it's fun playing & fondling the fabrics, but also scary as I think about just how many I actually have - very scary!!! I think I could make 100 of these quilts & not even make a dent in my batiks.

Kathy, that one is sooo pretty! All these little blocks just seem to sparkle..aren't they great?? Love it!
My LQS sells these little packets called 911 paks. They contain fabrics that go together, there are 11 (I think) pieces in each one and they are cut 9" x 11". Funnily enough, I had one of those paks (I buy them to give as gifts) in my AOTH colors. I've used several of the pieces already. I think I'll have to look for another one. They originally did it for appliquer's emergencies..you know when you just need a snippet of something in just the right colors? I know they are fairly expensive- $9.11..but they are great to have around! |
Kathy, I am totally in love with your block! It's absolutely gorgeous. I wish I could just reach in through the screen and grab it.
|
Patti that sounds like a great idea to have fabric cut in little pieces.
All the blocks are really looking scrumptious, I love them all, each one is going to be so individual when its all put together. |
Pretty blocks, Lesley and Kathy. Love them!
|
This block is just BEAUTIFUL!!!

I tried making those brownies with the chocolate chip cookie dough in them - you know the ones with the globs! Cheated - big time - box brownies & tube of cookie dough. Think next time I may gently fold the globs into the batter instead of placing them on the top - didn't sink in like I thought they should. WalMart had Pillsbury brownie mix for $1 - should have bought a case! They also have their Great Value brand of cookie dough!, so this batch was under $3. Really yummy, but I wanna try the other way, too, for comparison. If you start out first thing in the morning, you should be here just in time for dinner. |
Me too!

Actually, I got the idea from some kind of boxed mix (cannot remember what brand). I thought that it couldn't be too hard to do, right? So I bought brownie mix and made a batch of cookie dough and "globbed". The dough did want to sit on top instead of sinking into the brownie mix, so I pushed it in. I will caution, though, they are addicting!!!! (Part of the reason this Ducky can't get off the ground!) |
Oh drat on you!!! Quit talking about those brownies!!!! LOLL!!! My backside is big enough now!

I have just finished block 11. Will post pic in a few minutes.

How's that Razzle Dazzle doin' for you? I wish I had done some other method, but since I have 16 blocks done, I'm not doing them over. Still considering one larger & in Christmas colors. I've got plenty of batiks!
|
We are getting some gorgeous blocks now!!!!
It is going to be fun seeing how everyonw's quilts turn out as our fabric cohices are all fifferent. Beautiful blocks, Patti & Pattis. |
Patti I love those Autumnal colours you are using, this is going to be so beautiful.
Lesley you are far too clever, what a great idea to do the block that way |
I saw this block posted somewhere else and I linked to your name to make sure that I had the right person. It is beautiful. I love the colors that you choose. Also a hearty Thank You for the work that you do with inmates. I've had family members in the big house who needed structure and people like you contribute to making them productive people of society again.
|
Kathy, the Razzle Dazzle is hard to sew with by hand. I found the best way for me to handle it is to use a "crewel" needle (to make a sizeable hole for it to flow through) and my hands are so rough that I have to wear a latex glove. I have to cut it in fairly short lengths...about 12". There will be a lot of waste this way...but heck...it looks soooo great when its done. Almost like a braided rope. I sure hope it washes well though! Yikes!

I had a productive evening last night and finished the embroidery on both my block 10 and 11. This block 11 is the same one I posted on the cybersew thread with the variegated thread. I decided I didn't think I would like the variegated throughout the whole quilt so decided to go with dark red embroidery floss throughout, so removed the variegated thread and redid it with the red. I like it a lot better, even with my orange flowers.
|
Nice blocks Patti and Judy - as for colours 'going' together, I really think anything goes with this quilt. Aie has used what I would have thought really odd colours beside one another, but now I am managing to lose some of my inhibitions! (Well, quiltwise, LOL).

Wow, you all are doing incredible work!
|
Judy, I loved that varigated on this one, but I like the red equally as well! Its funny that it seems no matter what you do to these blocks, they are fabulous!
Pattis...I love your block too!!! |
Pattis, I love those little pink flowers. Beautiful block.
|
Cheryl,
Thank you for the nice words about my job. I really hope that I am making a difference in their lives. I love what I do and going to work isn't hard for me to do - even though getting up at 5:00 am is :-) especially since I hae been up for the last week till late in the evening watching the Mare Stare waiting for a filly to be born. She came last night at 11:00 Ohio time, but we all stayed on talking & watching all the activity after her birth. I have the cam up tonight watching her & her Mom. She is so cute and full of energy! |
Pattis, lovely block, love the pastel look so different again.
