candi, love your block.
I have two questions.
Why do ppl do the metallic thread with the bobbin instead of on top? and...
I am learning that the colors I think I see on my monitor are not the same colors in person.
I thought something was purple and orange and turned out to be brown and green, and a real, - light peach, I thought was white.
What color are your hearts that look creamy colored to me?
(I am assuming, that I am not so far off, that you won't know which ones. ;-) )
All I know, is what I see on this monitor at mousehouse and the two at DD's, all show beautiful blocks for everybody

candi 09-30-2011 05:50 AM

Good morning Miss Mousie :-P
Well, the metallic floss I am using would be too difficult to do by hand, because it unravels too much. And to do it by machine, it just had to go in the bobbin as it is too thick to run through the top. That is my experience anyway.

I know what you mean about colors, the light hearts in this blocks are actually whitish with avocado green texture, well, not texture but you know how batiks are colored. I haven't used this fabric in manynof my blocks, but I think I used it in one.
Oh yes, here http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-108524-5.htm bigger piece shows the color better.

How is your quilt going? Can I come visit and touch yet? :XD:

ann clare 09-30-2011 08:26 AM

Candi another beautiful block.

luvmortherest 09-30-2011 07:07 PM

candi 09-30-2011 08:10 PM

Thanks, ladies, I am itching to make more, maybe I can get some cut this weekend. But I am working on a 'cuddle" quilt to be ready for the fall in New England :-P Will be renting the LA on Monday to finish that, then I get back to the AOTH. 15 blocks to go

oh, ok, it does look whitish with a green texture-y print, if the light hits it right.
It shows in this picture, the green not as much in the other one, but it sure is a nice complement to your other fabrics.
all of yours go together so well, are they a line?
now, about my quilt...I know I have been super duper slow on it, but here's the nitty gritty: first I have been through the "meno" wringer in the past year or longer...really bad at times.
Ok, so thousands of us are doing that, but it ain't nothing to sneeze at.
Then there's the hubs, and the grands, and the m and now I have a niece about to pop.
She is due November, but she went early last time.
Long story, but she is at her parents, her sister is there, but complications, she is in a cottage and sister has a baby and can't keep her 15 month old while she goes to doctor and/or in labor.
My mom is worrying herself sick. She is 76 and basically blind.
I am trying to help.
This girl needs help.
Her parents work out of town. She may have to call me on cell, say she is in labor, I will have to make a mad dash to get baby and possibly rush her to the hospital.
I don't live next door ;)
ok, the upside to all this is: we are doing a reno on sewing room and I will have lots more room etc. to work.
I will be able to get busy and try to catch up as much as possible, in and around taking niece to doctor once a week till baby comes.
It's possible I may have to stay over there for a week or two, in the daytime to help her get on her feet with two small ones.
There is no one else.
What a jam to be in.
I, however, am looking forward to the new digs, "so to speak", and getting my "preshus" made for our new bed we got a couple months back.
One of my grandbabies is so excited bc I will have both machines set up so she can sew with me.
She can draw on the computer and I am saving them...possibly to transfer to fabric ;)
So, whoever it was that mentioned starting with us, now...i hope they do. They won't be behind at all!
Thanks for answering my questions, candi, hope I didn't talk your ears off with my stuff
if I did, they will grow back! ;)

man, I wish we had a LA I could rent around here.
huh,...maybe we do. I've never asked!
I need some practice though.
Does it cost a lot?

candi 10-01-2011 04:43 PM

Mousie girl, I got tired just reading all the stuff you need to take care of, my friend. Remember to take care of you too. Maybe you will show us photos of the renovated sewing room

And to answer your question, no the batiks are not a line, I just picked them up randomly I may add. I think all batiks go so well together

And to answer renting the LA question, I can't find a place in Jacksonville to rent one out, but there is a LA studio Orlando that does...she has four nice machines. She charges $25 per the hour to rent them out and a flat fee if you rent for the day or really big quilt...I have rented from her one time for the while day and quilted two queens and a wall hanging...cost me about $160 if I remember correctly...I was down there for about 8 hours. Of course not quilting the whole time. Then in May, she had a 50% off rental rates, so I took four wallhangings and got them quilted in one day for less than $80. To me it is a good deal, as I work full time and quilting time is limited, and I can always pick Upanishads hour here and there of overtime and pay for the rental session...that is my story and I am sticking to it

Now all that being said, I am actually up in Boston for work, and nearby LQS in NH rents their LAs for $12 an hour!!! And since it is in NH, it is tax free!!!! So I am going mad trying to finish a few things to take advantage of the savings while I am here....alas, working full time, I am struggling with that plan, lol.
But I managed to get a fall throw quilt top done for us and will go to quilt it on Monday...can't wait...I don't do anything too fancy just love to FMQ on the LA, I just go zoom zoom, lol.

Ok, now I talked your ears off, but you promise they grow back, so I guess no problems

with my big ears...it takes a LOT of talking to even make a dent.
Remember...i hear me too, and they are still there!
i think they are made of kevlar or stainless steel, lol! :XD:

Candi, I live 1 1/2 hours from Orlando. Do you remember the name of the QS that rents the LA? It would be worth the trip for me; I have 3 quilts that I must get done and that would be such a time saver.

Here is my 25....DH loves this block. Of course I shamelessly stole the 2 color embroidery idea from ya'll.... ;) Hmmmm...the colors seem really "off" on my monitor now, much more washed out than they really are.

wow! patty...I just love it and the two color embroidery-steal, lol, was meant to be!!!!
personally, i don't think if we see something and imitate, it's 'stealing', at all...it was out there, and one of us got there first.
There has to be a first, right?
...and I'll probably be last, LOL

I just finished block 25. After doing 19, this was so relaxing. I think this is one of the prettiest blocks I've done. I kept track of the floss and if my calculations are correct it took just under 9 yds of double stranded floss.

Love this block 25

Very nice Patti. It was quite a relief to come across an easy one.

Beautiful block, Patti. I'm on block 19 now and I'm looking forward to an easy one.

pattis47 10-17-2011 03:40 PM

I don't envy you with 19, thank goodness that one is behind me.....well until I replace that one swirly in the center that seemed to fade into the background fabric.....might do that now so I never have to handle that block again.....gives me chills just thinking about it!
