lol I will be doing my blocks by hand, using the needle turn method, and I aim to take pics of my blocks as I go along, to give you an idea of how I am making them. The machine people might also get something out of it, even if it is only the order in which I do mine. I will also be cutting away fabric from behind my appliques, to keep down the weight, and also the number of layers - they can build up quite a bit in some places, so I will be showing the backs, as well as the fronts as we go along. I think it's too soon to do that now, so I will just show you the front of the first block. Block 9 Block 9 detail |

It is a very attractive block
Lynnie, you are counted in! Welcome. If you're not sure of your applique skills now, there are lots of ladies who are ready & willing to help. We will be posting tutes and how-tos as we go along. Right now is the fun part of starting a project - gathering your supplies and FABRICS!!!!

I got my book in the mail today and can't wait to get started. I do have two UFO's I must get finished before I can start. Love the look of batiques on black. Thanks for the tip about using color catchers. Normally I don't wash my fabrics first but then I have never used batiques, so lesson learned.
well I got all my supplies now all I need to get are the machine needles #60 micro-tech I am not sure if I" m going to machine applique' or do needle turn. I think this will be fun

I like your colors. I have not decided yet if I will machine or hand applique but am leaning toward machine.
WOW! So pretty. I love your colors!
Love both blocks, Lynnie. That second one really pops.
After Kathy posted her tutorial on machine appliquing, I tried it and really liked it. But for this one I am doing it by hand. It will be my evening project to sit with hubby while he watches t.v.
Lynnie, I love your fabric choices!!! I find that to be really hard (my DH helps me). I know in a second if I've made the wrong decision, so I audition a lot.
I like your second block the best too...it does seem to pop more, although I like the 1st one too. I don't think you could go wrong either way. As for the technique, you'll just have to make a personal decision- machine vs. by hand. I am doing needle turn by hand as its a technique that I really want to learn and get better at doing. I also need a hand work project for tv time at night with DH. There are lots doing machine though. |
Thanks for giving me the link to the post for all the AOTH projects Kathy.
I love your block by the way, canīt think of your name now, the one without the embroidery, colours work well. Elle |
luv those colors
Kathy, both very good, like the second one better. I do the needleturn technique, I want to start this one soon, but have to wait to finish a committment first. Also have to get some more batiks as I never used them much on my budget,I have the black bg,needles, threads, etc . Jo
