Since it's a new year, I'm going to start on something new.. I am joining this BOM.. Sulabug, I have PM'd you with the month I'd like. I've been in BOM's before and they are fun, fun.. Hope everyone tries this, it's easy.

Happy New Year everyone,
Jean

cjackaitlin 12-29-2011 09:39 AM

I am always looking to learn new things, I'm all in. Even if I am a new quilter. Thanks Sulabug. Mary

coconuts 12-29-2011 11:47 AM

I would like to join, it sounds like fun. Thanks and looking forward to the first block. Jane

Floralfab 12-29-2011 12:54 PM

This one sounds great. I'm joining in too.

marymc 12-29-2011 06:42 PM

Well I think I shall try to do this again this year. Love the cale
nder idea!

Sewze 12-30-2011 03:46 AM

I'm going to try again this year to join in; "life" seems to get in the way for me during the Winter months, but a calendar sounds like so much fun and I would like to give it a whirl. Thanks Cheryl aka "Sulabug", sounds like we are all looking forward to this.

Jinnie

Barbara47 12-30-2011 06:39 AM

I have been looking forward to January so I could join something when it started. I am so in,have no idea how far I will get though!

BOM rules question

Hi, all. I think I will try to do this BOM! I don't understand what this means, though:

4. Pick and make any blocks you like from any lists you like. No matter how long ago a block was picked, you are still invited to post pictures when you make one. Just make sure to post your pics in the pictures thread for that block.
Is that a block picked for this BOM? Like I can post January even if it is July? Or does it mean any block from previous BOM years? Or something else!

JudyG 12-30-2011 08:54 AM

This sounds like a fun one, Sulabug. Can't wait to get started.

starshine 12-30-2011 08:56 AM

Hi Sulabug Thanks for another BOM. I never got started with last years eventhough I liked the theme and blocks. I am going to try to do this years and last years simultaneously. Hopefully I can get it going.

When February gets here, that block sould be realted to hearts or Valentine's Day & so on & so on. They will be regular pieced, appliqued, paper pieced or whatever method the person chooses her pattern to be. It's suppose to be fun & a little bit of a challange too. I love the idea of venturing out & learning something new once & awhile & I hope you will too!!
:D :D :D :D

But I think it should be whatever it means to them. For instance, to me March can be kites as that is what we did as youngsters (not shamrocks). February we also did Lincoln's birthday (log cabin?) and George washington's birthday (cherry tree). Therefore, my thoughts was that it didn't have to be hearts for Feb, etc. Am I wrong in this?

Jeanine,
Thank you for bringing that to my attention!! :D I agree with you 100%. The blocks shouldn't be what I originally stated, they should all be what the person picking that month's block wants the month to represent. I love your idea of kite's for March & all of the other ones you listed. We are so lucky to have so many choice's. The sky is the limit, so let you imagination wander. No, you are certainly not wrong!!

Swap

I especially like the fact that these are not swaps as I am a newbie so I can learn without feeling the ineptness of others critiquing my rookie quilting! Can't wait for tomorrow for the new first one choice. Hope there arent too many paper piecing though as I want to learn basic quilting tecniques first before I tackle any applique or paper piecing.

.

One lovely thing here is you won't be critiqued negatively. I think you will enjoy this group of people.

You are not alone Karen. I don't think I'll finish the 2011 BOM top until June!
Jeanine

mona202 12-31-2011 04:53 PM

Too True. Everyone here has always been awesome. I just meant I would FEEL inept if I had to send a block to the people on here who, from what I have seen, are FANTASTIC quilters.

prezzy 12-31-2011 05:44 PM

I am in. This sounds like fun. Thanks so much.

VickiM 12-31-2011 06:03 PM

I'm 3/4 through a mystery (doing 2 quilts in different colorwaves), 1/2 through a BOM (doing 2 quilts in different colorwaves), 1/4 through another BOM (doing 3 in different colorwaves--these are only 8 1/2" blocks so will do the 3 into tablerunners), only have 1 more month for another BOM (doing 3 quilts all totally scrappy)...so what's another BOM? I love doing them online...so much fun! So I'm in...hope I can keep up with everything PLUS the crafts for the craftshow booth. I will definately be busy trying to keep up with everything. I usually do multiples of stuff cuz some I sell, some I donate, & once in awhile I keep or give as gifts. I get bored easily, so always have a bunch going at once. Keeps life interesting! Happy Sew Year Everyone!!!

Andii 12-31-2011 06:05 PM

It's hard to believe it's New Year's Eve...I am sewing on my farmhouse block from last year(this year for a few more hours:p)to the sounds of fireworks. This will be my first block I've completely finished from the 2011 set. I've gotten several of them done but haven't embellished them yet so they're not officially done. This is the fun part to me adding the little touches.

I will continue to work on these blocks and look forward to the new ones as well. It is so much fun seeing how everyone sees their block. Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

TymeToShine 12-31-2011 06:40 PM

Thanks Sulabug, looking forward to this

nickylsf 12-31-2011 06:48 PM

Sulabug, Do we really have to wait until tomorrow?? You can see that for me an evening at home quilting is much more fun that partying out there!

sapdoggie 12-31-2011 06:55 PM

Sulabug are we all doing your block or are we all picking our own blocks? A little confused I thought we were doing what we did in 2011 with Hses...but seems some of the posting seem to state everyone is doing their own thing? Could we clarify...I did PM volunteering for Dec. block but if we are all doing our own thing then no volunteers needed...? Forgive my confusion

SewSewGal 01-01-2012 05:32 PM

I found the first block please tell me how we keep up with the other blocks

coconuts 01-01-2012 05:42 PM

Where do I find the first block? Little confused on where they are.

Each month on the first day go to Block of the Month section. You have to scroll down through the posts until you find two posts about the new block. Next month it will be February 2012 BOM. There are two separate posts about the block each month-one that has the pattern and the other one where we post our pictures. There are always lots of topics under the Block of the Month section-different projects going on so you have to scroll down till you find the two posts about our particular BOM-kind of like a treasure hunt! Good luck. You'll catch on after doing it a few times.

You could go back through last years monthly blocks to get a feel for how it's done.

JeanieG..........all of the blocks will be a mixture of different technique's. January's is paper pieced, some will be regular pieced & some may even be appliqued. It is up to the person picking the block for that month.

Hobbykat1955.........I sent you a PM. Everyone will make the block that is posted for the current month. You may personalize them by adding your own special touch. Maybe like adding the month & the year, to your blocks or anything else you might think of. Something simple or special to you.

Hi. This is just what I need to get jump-started. My oldest GS just turned 15 & I want to make a quilt for him when he graduates. Soooo, I need to get started. I have a GD & another GS year after that. So my plate is full....A GD year after, another GD 2 yrs later, another GD 2 yrs later & then baby GD 3 yrs after.
It is hard to figure out for a boy but I think stars would be wonderful. Girls are nooo problem.

sewhappy30 01-02-2012 07:54 AM

I've always wanted to do a quilt with a block that represents each month. Thanks for this BOM, I'm really excited to get started.

I am so glad to hear that you want to participate in the 2012 Block of the Month this year. It is a great way to make your quilt blocks & have a nice quilt by the end of the year. This year's Calendar theme will more than likely have many different pattern's, not just Stars for a guy. You might want to check out the 15th of the month, Block of the Month 2011, by JudyG, as the whole theme is Stars. I think it would make a great quilt for a young man. Just a thought for you to check out.

Here is the link for the Star pattern's:

Have fun & I will be watching for your posts & pictures of the blocks that you make this year.
