I love this type of Swap! It's a great way to share your expertise or lack of! lol

My first swap was in 2004 and an entire group swapped "kitty" blocks. You could use any method you liked making all the same size blocks! I learned so much, later in a different swap which I hostessed on Block Central was called "Block Party Surprise"..members signed up and each was assigned a month to choose a block and alternate..had to be a free online pattern everyone could obtain. We had to post a photo of our block or we would be out of the swap! There were blocks that I never would have attempted if not required to continue with the swap.

These swaps really do help everyone to learn new things and get better doing old ones!

Hugs,
CajunBear

CajunBear,
I just want to make sure that you know this is not a swap. The blocks that we make are for our own private use. It is so exciting to hear all of the other swaps that you have participated in. It is so fun getting together & sharing in our learning experiences & reap the rewards!! Thank you for sharing with all of us here today.

Wow! It's been at least 10 years since I did any paperpiecing...took me awhile to get the hang of it again, but I got it done. Very pleased with how it turned out...this is going to be fun joining in on this BOM! Just uploaded the pic & don't know why it looks pinks...actual colors are lt. blue with lime green stars & white on white; the dark blue is little twinkle stars in lt. blue & white.

VickiM 01-10-2012 06:37 PM

OOPS! Think I was supposed to post this to the pic section of this...sorry. Will change the batteries in the camera & see if that takes care of the pink problem...will do that tomorrow. I saw alot of pretty blocks already posted in that area.

What a beautiful Snow Blossom's block for January. Your actual color scheme sounds yummy. I think you picked up your pp'ing really well!! I am glad you are going to post it under the picture section. Thank you for sharing with all of us. Now you can take a break until the 1st of February!!

Anael 01-11-2012 03:49 AM

I'm in too :D Working on the January block right now! I love BOM's. I started with my first BOM last year and now I participate in 4. The waiting is the hard part!

Janice46 01-11-2012 05:13 AM

Hi
I have finished my block and love it I just finished painting my sitting room and it quilt will hang on the wall proudly.
I don't usually join things on the computer but this seemed like a wonderful group of ladys

quilting_granny 01-11-2012 12:14 PM

Hello I am very interest in the BOM But it seems I am having trouble finding your link. Can you send me info as to get to the BOM each month. This is my first time doing the BOM Thanks Sharon

Janice46 01-11-2012 12:17 PM

You can say that again. I wish I could start 2011 BOM

Janice you can. I'm still working on mine from last year. The patterns are still there so just print them out and start on BOM #2!:D I'm sure I'm not the only one still working on mine and I am going to post pictures after I'm finished so keep me company.

Sharon, you'll just have to keep an eye out for the new BOM each month-they come out each month on the first. They are under the top/forum Block of the Month. You can subscribe to the topic to get notices but they don't really notify individuals. We'd love to have you join us and you'll never find a group of more kind and helpful ladies...talented too.

Janice46 01-11-2012 05:48 PM

where do I go to get them?

If you go to the top of the page, right under the ad and to the left you should see a tiny house, the word forum, then a little arrow, and the words "Blocks of the month and week". If you click on that you'll get to them & this one is the 1st of the month. If that doesn't work for you. Try clicking on Home & go down to the link for Blocks of the month

Andii, I'm still working on my house one from last year also. So we can keep each other company. Nice to know someone is still working on it. I've started this one and hope to finish it on time this year. So, Janice, please join us. It is fun. As Andii says, just start any time. We welcome you.

Andii 01-12-2012 09:50 AM

Yea, Jeanine! I'm doing the same...hoping to do this year's on time but working on the other one at my own pace. Good to meet you.

SulaBug 01-13-2012 01:35 PM

Jeanine & Andii,
I am with the both of you gal's, as I am still working on putting together my House block quilt, from 2011. I decided to make my quilt a little bigger than just 12 blocks, so I have been looking for other pattern's to make & having some luck at that. I hope everyone will continue to share their progress with their house quilts, as I would love to see how they all went together. I plan to post some picture's of mine when I get a bit further along. Please join in & share how you are doing yours!!
:D :D :D :D

AddieLou 01-15-2012 09:32 AM

Andii 01-15-2012 01:07 PM

I'm glad to hear you're still working on your house blocks too, Sulabug.

Addie Lou...........We are so glad to have you joining all of us, in the Block of the Month Calendar theme for 2012!! :D You still have plenty of time to make your January block before the next one comes out. Thankfully everyone is welcome to do all of the blocks at their own speed. No pressure!! :D I will be looking for you to post a picture of your block, when you are finished making it. Start your sewing machine & have FUN!!
:D :D :D :D

SulaBug 01-18-2012 01:18 AM

Goodie, Goodie...........March is now taken & the best part is, it is taken by a member who lives in Ireland!! :D I can hardly wait to see what she picks for our pattern. Now we only need to fill the month of June & all will be well!!
:D :D :D :D

SulaBug 01-19-2012 10:59 AM

Hi Everyone,
June is now taken so the calendar, so far, is filled!! :D But we are still taking signup's for a waiting list. It's so important for a waiting list, as we never know when someone might fall ill & can't follow through. So if anyone is interested, just let me know!! Have a GREAT DAY!!
:D :D :D :D

chickadee_42us 01-20-2012 12:31 PM

I have these printed out here at work and will be taking them home to attempt making the block this weekend. I have never tried paper piecing but I need a kick to get back to my machine and I'll use this as the boot!

That's what I am talking about!! :D This Snow Blossom block is a very easy paper piecing pattern to make, so you go for it GIRL!! :D I dreaded my first try at pp'ing, but then it has become my most favorite way to make blocks!! We will be anxious to see your block when you are finished.

GladGrams..........We are so glad to hear that you want to join everyone in this years block of the month project. I have enclosed the website for the pattern for the January block. It's called Snow Blossom & you can make it any way you would like. There is no need to join this project or any deadlines for you to meet. It's a work on your own time, fun time!! :D There are two threads for the BOM, one is for the pattern & direction's & the other is for pictures of your finished block. We love for everyone to share their finished block, so we can all see how pretty they all turned out. Enjoy making your block & keep in touch with us.

I do them . I have just looked at the Jan. pattern and think I have just the right fabric for this block. It will be fun to do them, as I,d have the whole month to do 1 block. And I,ve got lots of scraps to use up.
This will be a first for me also.

Welcome new ladies. Having you on board is a help to me - it challenges me to keep up because you are interested in seeing all the wonderful work the ladies (and gents) on this quilting board do.

dixie_fried 01-27-2012 07:26 AM

I decided last night after reading the discussion to *try* the paper piecing and see if I could do it.
The January block is finished and posted in the photo thread!
Thanks for hosting SulaBug! I need to push myself and do things outside my comfort zone, and I think this BOM is a great place to start trying out new things.

stichinluvr 01-27-2012 11:24 AM

I think I'm biting off a bit much this year but I just have to try this BOM also! I'm hoping I can find the new block each month. I'm going to make January now - and won't have long to wait for Feb!

Dixie..........I am so glad to hear that you have made the January Snow Blossom block. Good for you!! :D The BOM is a neat way to try out & learn new technique's that you wouldn't normally do. Also having a month to work on your project is always nice, no hurries. I can't tell you enough that this is how I have learned so many new to me things. Welcome to our 2012 Calendar theme project. I am anxious to see your first block.
