If you change the block size to 6" do you need to also change the size of the triangles?

I do see what you mean. If you look at the original quilt picture here http://www.dearjane.com/ , you can see that TR1 vertical stripes just touch the edge and TR2 has the white border around it. You can see here http://thatquilt.blogspot.com/2010/05/tr-1.html that the block works out that way just the way it is drafted and assembled. If you look at TR2 here http://thatquilt.blogspot.com/2009/01/tr-2.html it seems that in the second picture, the seam allowance would be right to accomplish the border around the design... however the third picture looks like the seam allowance has been trimmed away, which seems wrong. I think it would be fine if that outside seam allowance was left on.

Tuesday, 7:30 am sounds good. About the only day I am usually home all day. Now if I can just remember to log in. -:)

the triangles in the original size are 5" wide by 8" long unfinished so if you are making your blocks 6" i would think you would need to change the size of the tris or atlleast add a sashing around them to bring it up to size.

ok...typed a response while on another page...ctrl c...to make sure it carried over - but I lost it :( guess QuiltnNan answered the tri question?? I thought it was a simple case of forgetting the middle plain fabric tri [don't have picture to look at right now...]

to figure triangle size when you change size of blocks - a little math required...
determine % increase = 4.5=100% --> [6.0 x 100]/4.5 = 600/4.5 =133%
easiest thing to do is to take a picture of the actual size triangle to copier and setting the 'enlargement' size to 133%
the size will change from 5x8 to 6 2/3 x 10 2/3

This is definitely a great way to do it for those that have access to a copy machine. However, in using the software, only .25" increments are allowed. I wish I could remember some of the math I learned so many years ago. So after a lot of trial and error, with 4.5" blocks, 1" sashing and .5" inner border, a 5.5" base x8.75" high triangle has the same angles as the original DJ. It might be off by one thread when sewing the seam allowance, but I'm going to make it work. This way, I can use the DJ tri ruler with a bit of length extension to 'square up' my tri blocks. I could go with 5" blocks and .5" sashing and .25" inner border, but, then, I wouldn't be able to use my square DJ ruler :)
