Well here are 25 and 26. I botched 26, got the squares going the wrong way! What a pain that one was, and I'm not going to tear it apart again!

Hi JeanieG
Its not a botch its a design modification, you really wanted the HST going that way

JeanieG, is there really a wrong way to do a block? Who says we can't "think outside the 'block'" and come up with something as lovely as yours? Looks good to me!

Thanks Evie!

Finally! Got #26 done. It was a little small so I wet it down and stretched it. Close enough for who it's for. (me) Now on to #28.

I just finished putting all mine together, and since the sashings are individually attached, and all are 6.5", you can stretch and/or compress all your blocks to fit when you sew on the sashings. Mine ranged from 6.25 to 6.75 and all made it into the final quilt just fine.

Suzanne57 11-15-2010 06:43 PM

I want to try the QAYG method so the backing will come to the front to be the sash. I figure the closer I get to the right size the easier it will be but as you said, the sashing will make the blocks fit.

Any hints on how you were able to stretch and/or compress the blocks would help me a lot! I find mine different sizes too. Glad someone else had that problem!

The key is the pinning. For blocks that are too small, pin the two corners first, stretching the block to match the length of the sashing, then pin the middle and then again at the 1/4 and 3/4 marks. For blocks that are too large, do the same thing but with the stretching done on the sashing instead of the block. When you sew them together, put the longer piece on the bottom (as in underneath).

Thanks so much - I've done so many strip quilts that I have not had this problem in a really long time!

These blocks weren't any better than 23&24...more blood sweat and tears! These little HSTs will be the death of me yet! I've been looking through everyone's 25&26 before posting. Nice job ladies! I mean terrific! Now that I've done them, I am in awe. Seams match.

I was glad to see some blocks where people had to ease in quite a bit. I had to stretch my block of 4 HSTs on 26 to make them straight. I also managed to make them too big, so here I was easing in when I fitted it together! Argghhh!

I'm definitely doing the galloping horse on these last four. Then I turn the page and see MORE HSTs!!!! May decide to do 28 first, although I notice there are HSTs there too. When will it stop?????

These cups & saucers look like they were bought from Goodwill!

Don't get disheartened they are tough blocks and if you look close you will see our aren't perfect either.
Do you paperpiece?

mirabelle 12-22-2010 02:35 PM

Beautiful blocks Quilting Nonnie, remember no quilt police here

janRN 12-22-2010 02:43 PM

I like them, QN. You really have an eye for color. I'm still having problems with scrappy but I am learning!

My block 26. I did 4 this week and I plan to do 4 or 5 a week to catch up.

Quilting Nonnie 01-16-2011 11:05 PM

Roxanne, LOVE your block fabric choices. So bright and cheerful! Good luck with your quest to catch up! I'm trying also, but I seem to just stay 10 blocks behind!

Halfsquare 01-16-2011 11:26 PM

Thank you Quilting Nonnie! You are so supportive. I finished 4 more today but haven't taken the time to post them. I posted this one and one more and I have 2 more to post. Almost at 30 done. I'm going to try to do more tomorrow. I love this quilt. I am going to have a lot of fabrics left over, however.

janRN 01-17-2011 05:36 AM

Love it-very bright and cheerful!

Another beauty, Roxanne! I love your colors. I'm also getting back to this project this week and am hoping to get 4-5 done per week as well. 25 is where I left off so now I'm officially halfway behind. But other projects are completed and now I can focus on this again.

Thanks for posting your pictures. They're very motivating!

Sew Cornie

Welcome back! You know, slow and steady wins the race! At least I hope so, because I'm behind by over ten blocks!

Love your blocks and the colors!

sew cornie 01-27-2011 09:55 PM

QN, you can always be counted on for a word of encouragement! Thank you! The encouragement of others is much of what makes this quilt-along fun to be part of and keeps the motivation up to continue even when I'm so far behind.

And a big thanks also to all of you who recommended pressing the seams open on #26. Boy, what a help that was!
