I didn't see a picture thread started, so here it is.

It went much better than expected. My previous PP attempts have been poor but this came together easily. I think I could learn to really like PP.

Very pretty! You did a great job!

amma 01-26-2010 10:58 AM

Very Well Done!!! :D:D:D
You chose your fabrics beautifully and look at those points :D:D:D

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-26-2010 10:59 AM

Thanks for the compliments, but it was shockingly easy. I don't know if I'm just finally catching on or if this is an exceptionally easy pattern.

I highly recommend it to anyone who has not had PP success in the past. I think you'll be surprised with your results.

MamaBear61 01-26-2010 12:03 PM

Beautiful block, I absolutely love your center fabric

SulaBug 01-26-2010 12:15 PM

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter,
DOUBLE WOW!! You couldn't have done a nicer job with your block!! :D It's beautiful. You have now given me hope that I will be able to accomplish this pattern, too. I have never PP'd, but am excited to give it a try!! Thank you for sharing with all of us.
:D :D :D :D

Lisa773 01-26-2010 03:26 PM

Wonderful job! I am encouraged. :)

dakotamaid 01-26-2010 04:23 PM

Beautiful. I love your choice of colors.

I'm dying to try PP but have to finish a wedding quilt first. :-D

BKinCO 01-26-2010 05:01 PM

Wow! I hope mine comes out half as good! I've never PP'd and I'm scared to death of it

Yours looks great, Janie! That star fabric is pretty. I like the sparkle.

aberi 01-27-2010 03:57 AM

Great Janie... now I think more people will try this now... you did a perfect job.. .Love the colours!!!

JanieW 01-27-2010 07:24 AM

Thanks for the nice comments. I am over the moon. I am so glad I tried this, it was such a wonderful feeling of accomplishment.

Looking forward to seeing more successes!

Ducky 01-27-2010 08:35 AM

They both look so great!!!!! You two give me hope -- I've done very little with paper piecing. Glad to hear this is an easy one.

I'm excited to get mine done, but need to finish a lap quilt first. I want to all 12 months in batiks -- and I still need to finish January's sunflower.

missgigglewings 01-27-2010 08:39 AM

OK JanieW...Now I gotta try it. PP scares me to death because I will not quit till I succeed and it drives me crazy till I do it right. OCD my daughter says! So I'M off to pp.

Lizzydripping 01-27-2010 01:23 PM

I'm new to paper piecing but am having a go. Not going to be beaten.

However, I have a question. This block looks as though it is going to turn out at 11.5". Am I right? Do I need to scale it up to match the January block or can I just add a small background border when it is finished and squared up?

As I am quite new to quilting, I am not too sure what to do for the best.

aberi 01-27-2010 01:25 PM

I think you should use scant quarter inch margins.. and you should be ok. If not than a thin border would work as well!

When you printed your pattern did you reset to "none"? My first pattern was set on another default (I think it was size to fit or something like that) and it printed out and I measured it and where it was supposed to be 6 1/2" it was actually just shy of 6". Hope this helps :) I'm going to attempt mine tomorrow.

JanieW 01-27-2010 05:39 PM

Just wanted to encourage everyone who is hesitant. It's easier than it looks... try it. You won't be disappointed and you will have a great feeling of accomplishment when you are done!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-27-2010 06:21 PM

I set the scaling on my printer at "NONE" and amazingly the block turned out dead on 12.5 inches. You don't have to worry about your seams. Just sew on the line and everything will be great.

I just realized what I wrote. You all know that I was off to Paper Peice, I hope! Anyway, now I am excited. I only got this corner done. It took me forever, I had to rip out 2 seams, tried to repair one with scotch tape which gummed up my needle and caused my bobbin holder to turn, when the needle hit that and stopped my machine I got mad and threw it away. Took a break, came back, and dug it out of the trash can. I did not start over but I did finish the portion I was working on and ....whatta ya know...I think I got it! I will finish the block when I get back from Georgia on Friday! I know I can do this and I am so happy that you all challanged and encouraged me. I thank you from the bottom of my quilty heart!

No, I hadn't realised that I needed to reset the printer. Now, I've done that, it will be fine. Thank you so much Sharon. I'd only done one section so I haven't lost much and gained experience!

aberi 01-28-2010 03:34 AM

Miss Giggly that looks great... I'm so glad you hung in there to try this block!!! Just think of all the new patterns you will be able to do that are paperpieced!!!

blahel 01-28-2010 04:51 AM

love, love, love everyones efforts so far..it is incredible to see how different each persons block turns out, i think that is half the fun of the BOMS..and some people are just so darned quick and get theirs made while I am still thinking about it!
I on the other hand have had my fabrics sitting there looking at me for the last few days to see which colors I liked the best!
So I have now finally cut all my pieces out and numbered the piles and hopefully over the weekend will have some time to start putting it together.
Looking forward to seeing more of everyones wonderful creations!

LoisN 01-28-2010 08:27 AM

PP rocks! I love it. My avatar quilt is paper pieced - and it is queen sized! (Took me almost 9 months, tho)

Use only scotch tape brand in the blue package and it will not gum up the needle. (Scotch removable tape). Works great! :)
