Good day everyone, I got side tracked and a little behind. I’m trying to decide which way to sew the center. How easy was the piecing method. I prefer that method. Just wanting thoughts.
Midwestmom your center is very pretty. I have a sister who would love your project. JeanieG, I like your center. My vote leave as is. |
happylab - I looked at both ways of doing the center. I found that the shape of all those pieces, if doing it by the piecing method would be very difficult, so I opted to go with the paper piecing. The paper piecing went easily, and went together without problems. I have never been a fan of paper piecing like a lot of others. Once I reacquainted myself with the process and watched the video I listed above again, I was able to get this finished. I plan to do most of the blocks by the piecing method.

Jeanie and Midwestmom both of your centers look great!
I haven't done any sewing in about 2 weeks now. Just went to an orthopedic surgeon yesterday. I have a more restrictive brace I have to wear as close to 24/7 that I can for the next 3 weeks, then go in for another appt. I can only sew little bits at a time so not sure I'll keep caught up, but will definitely post Mondays with block numbers for the week. Who is ready to start Blocks #117 & #112 next week?? |
Gee Carrie, so sorry you are having all the problems! I have had problems with my hands in the past, due to my arthritis. My right hand would not close but half way. A great hand therapist here in town fixed my problem in about six weeks. It has been good for two years now, Thank God!! Such a pain to have something wrong with you. Hopefully you will have this resolved in the near future.
I have all the flying geese finished and one set sewn on, so I will be ready to start next week. I think I will get the patterns printed and look at fabrics. |

I finished the center for this quilt, and will start the two blocks for this week. Here is a photo I took of the center. It is going to be a really big quilt!
|
Jeanie--! That looks great!
I have fabrics picked for my flying geese and it is patiently waiting for me to cut...I find I can sew a little as long as I don't have to pin much, but cutting hurts so I can't do that right now. |
Jeanie, I agree with the ! Very pretty
|
Thanks Carrie and Caley! It took me the whole month to get this far! LOL I did not spend all my time on this though, I have another project going on as well.
|
Wow, I love that center, JeanieG. Thought I had commented on it, then I could not fing it. If I am wrong, its not the first time,so I will not worry about it, but I did want to make sure you knew how well I like it. If you got all that done in a month, that is a major thing to have done that well. Love the colors you used.
|
QNS - You did comment on it! I posted it on our Pony Club Discussion Thread!! LOL - I do the same thing. It is a sign of our age I think, as you and I are the same age!
|
I may dream about that tonight! I was very taken by your block, loved it. Now both threads have documented that, so everyone will know how much I loved that block!
|

|
Lovely blocks, JeanieG. Love your colors you used.
|
Great job Jeanie!! They are so pretty. :)
Is anyone else working on blocks #117 and #112? My wrist/thumb are some better, but still not well enough for paper piecing...one day I'll get to work on the blocks and maybe even catch up!! |
Jeanie, Beautiful! I love the colors and patterns you've chosen.
Carriem Hope your wrist/thumb get better quickly so you can get back to piecing these beautiful blocks together. |
Carried, we can catchup together.
I’ve been busy canning tomato sauce and spaghetti sauce, etc. I want to can 2 more batches of tomato sauce. I decided to can my own since last year both items were unavailable for a few months. Plus I know what’s in the sauces. I need to get my fabric out and work on the blocks. I just realized I’m 2 blocks behind. Where did this last week go? |
Lovely blocks everyone! I'm kinda just lurking, made a few of the blocks. Not sure how many I'll do. Good luck all!
Carrie, is there a "Corrections" page ? I looked all over for a listing of corrections to block instructions and can't find one. Thank you!! Peace |
Hello Jan :) The book was just released and when I was emailing with Laurie about it she said so far she hadn't gotten any corrections needed from anyone, but to let her know if our group came across anything!
|
Hi Jan!!!
So glad to hear from you again! We would love for you to join us again. The blocks for this week have 60 pieces each! Takes a while to put them together. |

Last week's blocks finished today!
|
Great job Midwestmom!!
Sorry I didn't post block #s on Monday...we had a really bad storm blow through Iowa Monday afternoon (100+mph winds!!) Thankfully we didn't have any damage at our house (a few branches down and a couple trees in our timber), but Cedar Rapids/Marion (nearest big cities) are disaster areas as well as the nearest small town and several other places around the state! A lot of people have no power...we were without for a little over 24hrs. Week #2 blocks for those who need them are: #92 & #70 |
Midwestmom - those are so pretty! Love the fabric! Got one of this weeks blocks finished, but just started piecing the second one today.
|
Midwestmom, Very pretty

|
Oh Jeanie! Love your newest blocks!! :) I get a cortisone shot in my thumb next week, then Lord willing I'll be able to start working on these blocks. The extra trimming with pp'ing is just too much for me right now. :(
I am failing at posting block #s each Monday...I am so sorry!!! Maybe next week I'll do better...just to be safe, here are for this week and next!!Aug 17th-23rd #53 & #76 Aug 23th-30th #19 & #52 |
Life throws us a curve, Carrie, and we will all live through it, God willing. Maybe I will get the energy to return to quilt again. We can hope.

I thought last week's blocks were hard. I had to rip out and resew so many seams as I went along. I hope this weeks are easier! Here are my blocks for last week: |
Jeanie--a couple more nice blocks!!
My cortisone shot is Wednesday...not sure how long it will take to kick in so I can really start sewing again. :) |

|
Thank you carrie and Caley! I have this weeks blocks cut out, I will be paper piecing both of them. The blue one above I just was able to piece.
|
Last week I picKen out my batiks to Start the project. I will wash my fabric this weekend and Start my blocks. I’m hoping to play catch up in the next month or so. I’m thinking of just starting with the blocks and work on the center over the month. How long Roughly does it take everyone to cut and complete sewing their blocks? FYI this weekend is VQW, starts tomorrow.
|
happylab - So glad you are going to be joining us. You might start with the blocks for the week we are working on, so we can share our weekly blocks, then work on the back ones. Some are much harder than others. This weeks were relatively easy.
I am one that does not spend all day quilting on one project. I do lots of other things, as well as working on other projects at the same time, so I kind of jump around. I am almost finished with this weeks blocks, and am getting ready to sandwich one of my many quilts that need quilting. I just finished piecing an Eleanor Burns Lover's Knot Quilt, while doing these blocks. LOL We are so glad you will be joining us! |
Here are the blocks for this week: Sept 7th-13th #13 & #44
|
I; have been playing with making copies of the instructions, and have finished the August date lines, will continue with Sep and maybe more. Still auditioning fabric before starting the actual making of the blocks, will start where you are and work backwards to the start. Not sure about posting in the 'new' board, I will wait and see how the blocks turn out! Looking forward to seeing more 'eye' candy soon. Great job, you'all.
