Leave the paper on until you have sewn all the pieces for it. When a block is made using more than one paper pattern, then I remove the paper before sewing the connecting seam. I think it's easier that way to get all the paper off the completed block.
If you are using ordinary printer paper and having some trouble with it, you might consider using thinner weight paper. A lot of people use pages from an old telephone book to print on. I've seen pictures online of blocks made decades ago that still have the paper not removed, and the quilter used newspaper (with dates and interesting news stories that can still be read!!).

I use newsprint when paper piecing. You can use a child's scribble pad paper, or I buy a ream of newsprint which can be purchased from Dick Blick. I buy 2 at a time as the shipping is the same, and it is really cheap and runs through the printer just fine.

Also, if you sew with a shorter stitch length, your paper will tear away more smoothly and the seam shouldn't pull out at the end as easily.

I used the Carol Doak from www'CarolDoakFoundation.com that sells the paper piecing patterns and supplies.I was s 'sucker' fro all their wonderful paper piecing patterns on sale by email and have most of them on my computer. My long arm quilter was looking for the "Tears of Job' and I found it on Block base on my computer. Block base, I think, came from Electric Quilter that produced EQ7. If anyone does the Bible verses from Laura A. Hird, I would love to see them posted here or where ever.

Thank you JeanieG! I just ordered a couple of reams. I bought some dollar stare scribble pad paper for doing triangulations, but I have to trim it down to fit in my printer. I'll be glad to have the right size paper available. For whatever reason, when I started this a year ago, I printed some blocks ahead of schedule. Those were printed on regular printer/copy paper. I don't know why I didn't use the scribble pad. Maybe I was being lazy and didn't want to cut it. Now I regret it, I tell ya.

Thanks for that reminder. I noticed that when I reverse, I always pull the lever down to the widest stitch length out of habit. I need to adjust the screw, so I'll know where my pping stitch length should be. I'm sewing these on a lovely 1937 Singer 201A. Such an elegant lady of a machine. I love her!
