This week was fun with Crystal and Daffodil: Enjoy!

Pam P 10-27-2015 12:59 PM

Love those! Will post mine later after I finish them. My Daffodil was backwards from the book.

Blame it on the meds, Anne! Hope you're feeling better. Missed the center point in Crystal and my daffodil is also backwards. Can I blame it on meds???? QNS, very clever use of fabrics in Daffodil--like a landscape.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-27-2015 01:49 PM

Using templates on the back side of the fabric, will tend to reverse the image on the front side on blocks like this. I use the right side of the fabric and scrap booking ink pens or gel pens to mark with on the fabric, the outline and the seam allowances.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-27-2015 01:52 PM

Yes, I think we posted just after one another....JanRN. Thanks, I wanted the daffodil to look like 'real' thing. April rain brings May flowers.

Here are my Crystal and Daffodil (also backward). Crystal turned out pretty wonky. My bad -- I decided to redraw the pattern in EQ so more pieces were joined, and ended up with at least 8 y-seams. Thus the wonkiness!

Pam P 10-29-2015 09:58 AM

I like the way your Daffodil turned out. I used a red background (unfinished) and don't think I like it very much. May do it over.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-29-2015 11:12 AM

Remember, next week is a third of the way done with all blocks! Hang in there, folks! Unless it has become a 'chore' and no longer any fun. I love the challenge of each block and try to imagine how the author choose each block and made up the original pattern pieces. It will be your quilt in the end, the way you choose to do each block or not or how you did each one.

I quit on three different projects with QB when my sight got so bad...and still feel bad about not finishing with the group in 50 stars, Dear Jane and Elm Creek Wedding Quilt. Still have my totes with each yet. Maybe someday I will finish them, feel young again, and complete all my UFOs. One step at a time. Multiple steps do not move along too fast...in finishing each quilt or UFOs. Better to look at what you are committed too, and decide what or which to do:first priority. Yes, I get bored and move along too quickly sometimes and have to back track myself; and decide what to do each day.Choices are all mine, to do or not to do. As OK put it "Time to commit!'

oksewglad 10-29-2015 05:04 PM

katybob..a winner of a daffodil and I love QNS's and Jan's Crystals.

Time to commit...why I'm not doing this FWS sew along.

Honchey 10-29-2015 06:15 PM

Hi Everyone, Pretty colors and blocks this week.. There is just something wrong with the daffodil block when I look at it. to me the flower should be facing the other way or maybe it's the angle of the flower head???

NOTE:
We're going to take some time off soon...time to catch up & time for the coming Holidays.

We will be taking a break the week of Thanksgiving. I won't be posting November 24 2015..We will restart on December 1, 2015 There will also be a break for the Christmas & New Year Holidays..I won't be posting December 22nd & the 29th..We will be making a fresh start on Tuesday January 5th, 2016.

oksewglad 10-29-2015 06:45 PM

Such a smart idea...time for family and friends...

givio 10-29-2015 07:54 PM

Honchey, your calendar sounds good to me.
QNS, I'm still trying to get to block 25, one fourth of the way. :-) I've a ways to go to get to one third... your Crystal turned out lovely.
katybob, it looks great! It doesn't seem wonky to me. Anyway, it's not an easy block. Love your color combination.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-30-2015 05:47 AM

Vacation sounds good for the family time, Honchey. So I guess I fire up the old virtual RV for us that do not have family or friends coming in to celebrate the holidays. It gets a little lonely here through the holidays. Dh and I remember the good old days when I cooked for thirty something crowds. Now they are just another day on the calendar. Enjoy your times with family and friends.

huskyquilter 10-30-2015 07:28 AM

Well QNS, now I feel guilty about not keeping up this week. So I'm printing my templates out now for the next 5, although, I'm definitely skipping daffodil.

Pam P 10-30-2015 11:57 AM

I have Crystal almost done. I do not like my Daffodil so I am doing it over tonight. Should be able to post them before the weekend is over.

Honchey 10-30-2015 03:45 PM

I found a daffodil pping pattern that doesn't have sections , I thru 20 real easy ..I'm not doing the block in the book..too abstract for me...I 'll look up the site and pot it here if you want to do it too.. H.

www.piecebynumber.com . Jut look up daffodil

Pam P 10-31-2015 04:15 AM

Thanks for the link Anne, I took a look at it and liked the daffodil. I may take a stab at it today.

JeanieG 10-31-2015 10:33 AM

Yes Anne, I have decided to go with this new daffodil pattern as well. I've got it printed out and the fabrics cut. Thanks so much for researching this for all of us!

Honchey 10-31-2015 01:42 PM

No Problem...The one we don't like is in EQ7 to me it's ugly!!! I might be on the road to NC this Monday..it all depends on the result of the MRI..I'll know Mon in the a.m. If I do leave I'll be posting..gee, I just remembered.. week 14 is already posted..:)
I am noticing that a lot of the blocks need to be mirror imaged..Before printing the pattern look at it and imagine it reversed in your mind..if it looks the opposite of the picture in the book it needs to be reversed..with some blocks it doesn't matter tho..

Ok, here are Crystal and Daffodil! WHEW! For some reason these two blocks were really trying for me! I decided to re-do the original Daffodil and just keep it backwards. I already had the pieces cut. Glad to have these behind me. There is a black spot showing in Daffodil that is on the scanner, not the block and Crystal has a wrinkle in it that is on the block (and not the scanner) but I am not doing these again (maybe...)

QuiltingNinaSue 11-01-2015 03:38 PM

Good job, Pam! Isn't it nice that you finished??!! Always feel good with that finished feeling!. I think they will fit into your quilt just fine.

Pam P 11-01-2015 05:10 PM

Thank you QNS! I do feel good When they are finished and I am caught up. I will always be a little behind but I will finish this quilt!

janRN 11-01-2015 06:06 PM

Pam, I like both of your blocks. I missed the center points in Crystal--you nailed it! You used fun colors, too.

Pam P 11-01-2015 07:09 PM

Thanks Jan, My first attempt at Crystal didn't meet at the points. I did that one over.

janRN 11-03-2015 05:37 AM

Ladies, don't forget; week 13 is already posted in the Blocks of the Month so you can add your latest blocks.

Finally am posting a couple of weeks I have had done for a while:

QuiltingNinaSue 11-13-2015 01:50 PM

Love kyour blocks, Jeanie. Prefect job, as usual. Love the colored fabric you used.

janRN 11-13-2015 02:36 PM

Very nice, Jeanie. I really like your Daffodil block so much better than the one in the book. Great colors, too.

Pam P 11-13-2015 04:06 PM

love how that daffodil block turned out! I was going to try it but changed my mind. Pretty.

givio 11-13-2015 08:36 PM

Oh! I like that pop of red, Jeanie! I like that daffodil pattern better than the one in the book. I think I'll use that pattern too, however, Pam's daffodil is great too. What a great choice for the background of the flower, Pam! The pattern of the fabric really hides the seams, doesn't it!

Finally!ly getting a catch up, the flower will have to be redone I tried to do it reversed and seems some pieces are and others are not what a mess

QuiltingNinaSue 11-15-2015 12:28 PM

You have great color going in both blocks.

janRN 11-15-2015 02:46 PM

They look fine to me! Love your color choices. Daffodil, I think we all agree, is a real dud--doesn't look right no matter which way you piece it LOL.

Here's my Daffodil. I decided to use the pattern from www.piecebynumber.com too, rather than the daffodil from the book.

Pam P 11-19-2015 12:57 PM

beautiful!

janRN 11-19-2015 02:33 PM

That really looks like a daffodil. Love it.

oksewglad 11-19-2015 03:01 PM

25! -- One fourth of the way there!
I loved sewing Crystal! It went together very well. I used the templates. It was the fabric I couldn't decide on!! I have a whole other block I can sew with the rejected fabric pieces!

JeanieG 11-21-2015 10:07 AM

Beautiful fussy cutting, as usual, Givio. Wow that one is stunning.
