The FWS 30's Quilt-Along Week 9 Block #17 Bride & Block #18 Carol

2 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone, Week 9 and time to have a show & tell of Bride & Carol

I'm not sure if I'll have access to the internet at the guest house that's why I'm posting tonite..

Bride was a bear to sew and Carol was a pain..Maybe because I rushed to get them done..Carol is a little wonky and the middle of Bride is off.. but they are done, done, done....

Yours look great, Honchey. Nosegay gave me problems, but they are what they are. Nosegay was carried in Victorian Days to hide their body odors from not bathing..brides picked up on the idea and carried spray of flowers with them.

These look wonderful! I haven't started yet but have been collecting my 30's together in one place. I had many more prints than I thought at first. While I was cleaning and looking for more 30's I came across a full box (plastic) of 30's! I've had to buy more solid colors and before this is finished I will probably have to buy more. Will be posting soon....

Sorry, the second block is for next week, not this week! the correct block is Block 18 Carol...

Pam P 09-29-2015 06:25 AM

Such bright pretty colors!

Rosyhf 09-29-2015 07:44 AM

Beautiful blocks Honchey and NS. I will start my two today. I think I will use a piece of your gorgeous fabric NS.

In those days, people bath themselves once a year and not a good bath either...every one would get in the same water, the baby would be the last one and the water would be black by then. It's a small wonder people were dying like flies of disease in those days. The saying, "don't throw the baby out with the bath water" as the water was so black that you could very well do that.

The bride would bath in June before the wedding lol.....

huskyquilter 09-29-2015 08:06 AM

Oooohhhh! They're flowers! All I could see was a weird looking partial star. I was so uninspired this week, I didn't make mine yet. Seeing others popping up is giving me some ideas. :)

Anne, have a fun trip. Ladies, love the bright and cheery blocks for this week and they're all so well done. Any PC riders remember my donkey friends?

carriem 09-29-2015 08:50 AM

Jan...nice of you to let your ponies make an appearance in this "ride" too. :) Great fussy cutting and the brown batik matches perfectly.

Great blocks this week, everyone! These were a little tough to make. I don't like that there's not much contrast with the two green prints in Bride, so I might redo it (or I might not!).

LOL - Yes Jan, I remember your "ponys"! We had such a laugh over that! My Bride looks too busy - Oh well!!! Here are my blocks:

janRN 09-29-2015 01:28 PM

The more I see of the 30s fabrics the more I like them. All of your blocks are so cheerful and bright. I've been looking at the book Farm Girl (or something like that) and thinking I'd like to make that in the fabrics yinz are using. But that would mean a shopping trip---Yea! that would mean a shopping trip. You've inspired me to think bright colors instead of my usual gloom & doom blocks.

QNS, great historical tidbit there! haha! Looove your Carol-- cheerful fabrics!
Rosy... a year is a little hard to believe, but I see what you suggest about how the baby and the bath water saying got started. :-)
Jeanie, I have that same purple flowered print. I like it, especially with purple. Did you intend to have the handle of your bride bouquet turned opposite?
Lots of great blocks posted this week already.
Here's my Carol.
Katybob, your Carol looks wonderful-- wish I had chosen something with greater contrast, like you did.

Sweetly sings the donkey at the break of day. If you do not feed him, this is what he'll say..Hee.Haw.Hee.Haw.Hee.Haw.Hee.Haw.Hee.Haw.

Oh Lordy Givio - I sure didn't. LOL Just a mistake, I thought it looked strange, but did not look at the photo in the book to double check! Won't be hard to fix!

Givio, it is history really. I'm good with history lol...once a year, no kidding. They believed a bath would make them sick....all of europe was just as disgusting lol.....Nostradamus was only one that I know of who took a bath outside in the cold.

Here is my Carol or Chiquita Banana lol.....I love this fabric NS>...This is how I did it. I didn't feel like doing all those hST. I took the pattern apart in EQ and made the sections I wanted, It went together like butta lol....

QuiltingNinaSue 09-29-2015 06:27 PM

Yellow sunflower looks very happy, and catches one's eye for sure. love it.! My book arrives on the first to stack and whack the fabric.

I finally am getting caught up on my blocks. None of them look square but they are, i suppose it's because I'm taking pictures on the wall. Very pretty blocks everyone. Rosy, I like your way of putting the blocks in EQ7. I haven't tried that yet with these blocks.

I love your Bride block GrannyQ! I turned the bottom of mine around, looks much better (LOL).

QuiltingNinaSue 09-30-2015 05:00 AM

Nice job GrannyQ. Better Bride than mine...excellent job.

huskyquilter 09-30-2015 05:20 AM

Happy to see the green blocks coming back! All are so pretty this week! Hoping to get mine started today, although I'm kind of debating how I want to do Bride. I may have to do a couple of different versions.

Rosyhf 09-30-2015 06:26 AM

Lovely blocks Granny, I like to use Eq for that purpose. First I do a search in EQ and if it doesn't have the block then I search in Block Base and pull it up from there to EQ as BB doesn't give you options to manipulate the blocks. I can look at it many ways. I can pp some areas and template some and rotary cut the rest. That is the fun of it for me.

Beautiful block Pam. Here is my Bride. I found another bride in BB that had the outside more pp friendly, so I did that one. The rest was the same. I did templates for the rest.

Honchey 10-02-2015 09:53 AM

Very pretty blocks being shown, I love all the bright colors..

I'm not feeling that well after coming down with a sinus infection during my trip to Pa..Didn't have internet available to me so I've been absent. I hope to feel better after taking the antibiotics the Dr. prescribed..I still have next weeks blocks to make..Have a good weekend all.. later, H.

Finally got this done, gave me so much trouble, just aa block I guess, now don't really even like it, to busy, but its done, can redo if I get time, now on to the next two before tuesday

JeanieG 10-03-2015 08:20 PM

Teri - I had the same reaction to my block too! Too busy!!! Guess that makes two of us with the same problem.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-04-2015 05:04 AM

JeanieG and Teri, your blocks look fine and will be great in your quilt. You are looking at one block too closely and not how it will look with 98 other blocks...it will be great!

oksewglad 10-04-2015 05:21 AM

Teri and Jeanie, your dilemma with the block is exactly why this is such a learning experience...sometimes we learn the most when it doesn't look just right. And like QNS says it's only one of the bunch..

JeanieG 10-04-2015 01:28 PM

Thank you OK and QNS! I did turn the block around that I stitched in up-side down (LOL). It does look better.

huskyquilter 10-05-2015 09:36 AM

I'm not sure why, but I've been having a hard time getting my mojo together on this one. :( Oh well, started today, cutting fabric under my desk at work. Lol... Hopefully I'll get them sewn tonight...

Pam P 10-05-2015 12:42 PM

Hahaha I got such a funny picture in my head of you cutting fabric under your desk!

klgreene 10-05-2015 04:26 PM

Ok girls, I can't be working on these right now, but boy, sounds like this one is giving everyone some trouble. Hope when I get to it, I can take my time, and just enjoy it. I like this block.
