I've used Press & seal w/good results also.

We arrived in Phoenix yesterday, so won't be able to take a photo of the back until I get home. Will do that for you! Will probably be a little over a week. Seven month old grandson is at such a cute age! There are also two granddaughters ages 5 and 7.

Take your time. :) Is there anything any better than grandkids?????

Nope, having a great time!

what I did this weekend

I didn't have much time to sew this week....just got one block done, but was able to get lots of papers cut and fabric for a few more blocks.

Yesterday I has a sewing day with some ladies at a restaurant in a nearby small town...the owner is a quilter so it works out well. :) I think there were 16 of us there! Some of us learned how to make chenille potholders. I haven't washed them yet so they aren't quite as "shaggy" as they will be after washing, but I thought I would share.

The other thing I did was one of the March BOM from the free Craftsy BOM class...I am doing this with 3 friends (we all have different fabrics). We got together in Feb and did Jan/Feb blocks. The potholder took us longer than we thought so didn't get the Mar/Apr done as planned...oh well we had fun. :) I can take pics of the other blocks too if anyone wants to see them. :)

Hope all have had a great weekend.
Carrie

QuiltingNinaSue 04-15-2012 04:51 PM

Lovely!! Sounds like you all had fun!!! Show us all!!

dublb 04-15-2012 10:15 PM

Carrie, Those are darlin'. I'd love ta see the other blocks. A question. Did ya use any batting for the potholders, or is the chenille enough?

carriem 04-16-2012 03:19 PM

Bev--for the potholders we used insul-brite batting, 4 layers of flannel on the top and then one on the bottom. The lady who taught us said if you were to do chenille on the top and bottom you wouldn't need batting. Carrie

Each month there is a new technique and two ways to do it. These colors (black with all the bright colors) are not normally something I would choose, but thought I would go out of the box since I had no idea what the finished quilt would look like anyways. :) The solids are all "bright suedes" by P&B Textiles. These are my new favorite blenders.

I haven't squared any of these up yet...I wanted to wait until all the blocks are done in case something ends up being smaller than the other.

Carrie

dublb 04-16-2012 04:40 PM

Carrie, thanks for the info about the pot holders. I have the chenille cutter & I really like ta make potholders. Your BOMs are very bright & pretty. They make me smile!

QuiltingNinaSue 04-17-2012 04:27 AM

I love your color choices, carriem. Indeed, very bright, but very pretty. Enough to brighten up any new day.

gardnergal970 04-17-2012 04:29 AM

Carrie...those BOM blocks are neat. I've been downloading and saving the patterns but don't know when I'll ever get to it. So many things to sew!!!

QuiltE 04-18-2012 10:24 AM

CarrieM ... yea for you for stepping outside the box! Sometimes we just need the nudge, to try something different ... and then lo and behold, we discover that we have missed out on something fantastic for a long time!

DublB ... I have that cutter too. Got it at the CreativFestival show a few years back. One of the prettiest chenilled pieces I saw done, was a baby quilt, with panels (regular, not flannelette) layered one on top of each other, and then chenilled.

Hi!

I just got my new potholders out of the dryer so thought I would share an "after" picture. :)

I would like to try this with regular fabric. I saw it done with flannel baby panels in a shop a few weeks ago.

dublb 04-18-2012 05:28 PM

Oh, Wow! Even prettier!

QuiltE 04-18-2012 08:38 PM

Imagine that ... cuddly potholders!! :)

It is Spring!!!Ducks & turkeys one week old. Barnyard mixture of whatever they grabbed and put in the box. 8 little ducks and 6 turkeys.

JeanieG 04-20-2012 01:30 PM

Oh Lordy, how cute are those little critters!

oksewglad 04-20-2012 03:26 PM

"Chicks, and ducks and geese better scurry...." Aren't they cute? Thanks for sharing QNS.

You got some pretty wild blocks going there Carrie. This will make a striking quilt for sure. Yeah I got 2 more PC blocks done--plodding along.

dublb 04-20-2012 08:45 PM

Such cute little babies! Yes, Spring has Sprung!

mirabelle 04-21-2012 04:10 AM

Cute ducks, my grandfather used to raise ducks and I remember my brothers and I fighting over who got to eat the duck eggs for breakfast, but most of the time my grandmother would make her sponge cakes with the duck eggs. Yum, brings back lots of memories

QuiltE 04-21-2012 04:33 AM

QNSue ... Oh so cute! bet you have them all named too!

OKSGlad

Like done...and the rest of the good ones slip my mind! I'm now 3/4 done with D&D and watched more closely what I was doing after seeming Honchey's tut and it did turn out a little better. Maybe tomorrow I'll tackle the rest of it and see how EF works for me. With the comments made by those that have completed it, I'm not to excited about jumping into it.

QuiltingNinaSue 04-21-2012 05:26 AM

QuiltE, you guessed Deputy Dawg's last name that starts with D. Smile, ggal, its just ONE block out of ninety and it too shall pass. And you will have one more perfect block! So will QuiltE's.

Sorry, you lost a good tree, QuiltE. The people in Creston, Iowa, after the tornado hit there and destroyed their entire home, would say you are a lucky gal. No warning, it just dipped down and back up again. Killed six in OK, and blew on down through Texas to the Gulf at Corpus Christi. Several were injured as it paced through the mid-section of America, but only ones killed was in Ok. One guy had everything destroyed in South Africa, so he came to college in Creston, and had his whole apartment and everything in it destroyed...losing all his things again. That's rough.

Termi 04-21-2012 07:18 AM

QNS, what adorable little chicks, ducks and turkeys! Sometimes I hatch my own but not this year. I usually wind up with too many roosters.

QuiltingNinaSue 04-21-2012 08:38 AM

Chicks are coming in the middle of May. Rhode Island Reds & Dark Cornish pullets. All in the photo are turkeys & ducks. If I call "chick, chick" my ducks will line up in row. Every one needs or has a turkey or two; not always a fowl one.:p

QuiltE 04-21-2012 12:43 PM

GGal + QNSue ... for some strange reason your D's were not THE ones that came to my mind!

QNSue ... it is not one block of 90 ... TWO "D" ones this week. I'm hoping that the ones next week, are gentler to use!

Yes, the tree loss in minor compared to those who have faced tornadic damage. Thankfully, I've never gone thru one ... know too many who have, and thankfully have lived to tell their story. Although, when the winds get up, I oft wonder if this living on the edge of a bush, is such a good idea. So far, so good ... and I've been told many times, that the trees will fall "in" the bush, not out of and onto my house! I hope they continue to be right. And if it's ever a tornado ... I know it has its own mind, as to what it does!

I know that spring break is over, but I wanted ta post this link, somewhere, so ya'll can see what I did. This is what I finished this week.

Wow dublb, those are great quilts!

carriem 04-24-2012 06:44 PM

dublb---very nice quilts! Thanks for sharing. Is the 2nd one a QAYG? It looks like a pattern I have made a couple times called the "6-hr Quilt" by Kaye Woods (I think that was her last name).

Great job on both the quilts!

gardnergal970 04-25-2012 04:21 AM

Dubib...such nice quilts. Did you FMQ the dragonflies?

Termi 04-25-2012 04:29 AM

dublb, oh what beautiful quilts! My favorite is the first one, such nice bright colors. Someone will be very happy to receive them.

With right sides together place pin thru point of the square to the closed "V" of the main section

align the corner points and sides to make sure they are squared and straight.. stitch from the outside edge to the end of the line do not go over it...pivot around...sew a few stitches...remove from machine.

Clip the seam at the "V" to where you ended the stitching on an angle to just inside the point leaving one or two threads... Do NOT go past it.

finger press the seam open...swing the square around so that you can align the other side for sewing...pin the points then fold the piece so it lays flat and you can see where the other seam ended.

sew from the outside edge to the ended seam then pivot around sew a few more stitches remove from machine...finger press the seam ...turn the piece over and it should be nice and flat.

Maybe this will also have the photos..

Yes this is a Kay Wood 6 hour quilt. It a type of QAYG. If I had used poly batting I would have been done but I love wool batting. Wool batting needs to be quilted every 3 inches, so the dragonfly's.

Yes I am very proud of my Dragonfly's. I finally took a class for my FMQ.
Thanks Ya'll

Even without the photos great directions! Thanks. Since I'm through with these baby quilts I git right on these blocks. First Eastertide & Ella's Star then Doe & Darts & Elsie's Favorite.

Tomorrow I'm heading over to my friend Elaine's house to get some perenials. Like quilters, gardners are so generous. As a thank you she's going to get this little 6 x 20 wall hanging for her kitchen/dining room. The pattern is from "Patchabilites" a designer from Iowa not too far from where I live. Julie didn't have the birdhouse in. I thought it looked a little drab so put the birdhouse in amongst the hollyhocks. There's a couple of little bee buttons on the flowers in case you can't see them.

Oh you are such a sweetie oksewglad! What a wonderful gift to your friend. I'm sure she will just love it, I know I would! Beautiful wall hanging!

gardnergal970 05-01-2012 04:15 AM

Oksewglad...it's wonderful to share with friends. Every time you walk by her plants you will think of her and that wall hanging will be a constant reminder to her of you.

QuiltE 05-01-2012 05:12 AM

Oh OKSGlad ... that's a charming little quilt/wall hanging! I'm drooling over the hollyhocks and ITA the birdhouse just sets it off beautifully. Do hope that one or both of you have some hollyhocks to enjoy!!! They just go with farms!!! :)

Plant trading can be oh so much fun ... and woudln't we all love to sneak in and steal from QNSue's gardens???

carriem 05-01-2012 05:49 AM

I like the addition of the birdhouse and bee buttons...what a nice friend you are. :)

QuiltingNinaSue 05-01-2012 07:43 AM

If some one would want a start of my garden flowers, I would probably "gift" them as I have in the past. And as other gardeners have gifted me.

Even Susan, although her dh mows them off or throws them away. This he has done repeatedly.

I have been having fun doing the "fabhopshop" every month since last August; have won $10.00 from three different shops in different months and a yard each of four different fabrics last month (March). Did not look at the search until last night so score was lower than usual. It passes time by in my room, Love to see all the quilt shops and their latest thing they are doing. Wishing I had the extra $$$$$ to spend. Oh, well, I can live without it and try to use what I need to do in my quilt room.
