Two blocks done this week and here they are...I messed up with the xmas tree trunk section..it's upside down and staying that way. I also believe that xmas trees should be green with snowflakes all around!!

Ok, now it's time for the candy parade !!

QuiltE 03-20-2012 06:27 PM

Honchey ... looks like a luscious Cake on that Cake Stand .... and a perfect Christmas Tree! Of course, it should have snow flakes all around! (now you have me wondering if I can find some snow flake fabric!)

Sharp and pointy all round! Beautiful!!!!

grannyrae 03-20-2012 07:06 PM

Lovely blocks as always.Really enjoying following the progress on this quilt, you are all so talented.

Honchey, Great blocks!!

I had some fabric issues due to operator error with the rotary cutter, so I had to improvise. (sigh)

They are beautiful blocks as always and I love seeing the pictures of everyones individual blocks.

Beautiful blocks!
Honchy - Your Cake Stand makes me think of tropical fruit. Hmmmm, a yummy way ta frost a cake! Oh & I love the snowflakes, dove, candles & all things Christmasey.
Janie W - Is it a Red Velvet Cake? I love the hearts! Your Christmas tree looks like it is covered in snow!

QuiltE 03-21-2012 02:58 AM

JanieW ... *gasp* operator error :) Now that never happens, does it?
Whatever happened, nothing looks amiss ... and it looks like two more well pointed and beautiful blocks are made!! :)

Anne, I love the bright colors you're using for PC, quite different from your FWS if I remember correctly. Love them both. I also switched the dark/light colors so I could have a green tree.
Janie, first thing I thought of too was Red Velvet Cake--love the red and white. Great contrast in your Christmas tree block. Very pretty!

Here are mine for this week:

gardnergal970 03-21-2012 04:40 AM

Honchey...I would never guess your tree trunk was upside down. Every point is perfect and it looks great. I noticed on your cake stand that you're teasing us with an extra dollap of frosting. Very original and again all of your points are perfect.

JanieW...Snowy Christmas Tree with the perfect background. And the Cake Stand...Improvision is the very foundation of quilting. I had to look twice to see what it might have been. Great recovery!

JanR....your Christmas tree looks so festive. Love the blues in the cake stand.

All...wonderful eye candy for a Wednesday morning with coffee. I'm in the garden again today without a prospect of much time at the sewing. I'll be watching for more.

Honchey, I can't see anything upside down either! Your blocks are great! On the left side there might be just a bit too much cake on the stand :D

JanieR, lovely christmastree block! I had to look several times before I noticed the operator error!

JanR, the blocks are beautiful!

Here are mine for this week. The Christmas Tree block was the first block I made.

Beautiful blocks!! I will simply sit in the chuck wagon and enjoy the quilt block show; then look and be amazed again how wonderful they are. None for me to show until next week.

QuiltE 03-21-2012 05:24 AM

WOW! Looks like we're all up with the birds ..... and with all this incredible weather that we all seem to be having!

JanRN ... Your cake has me drooling with the purple fabric mix! And a perfectly decorated Christmas trees with all those red lights on it! :)

Anael ... another fancy birthday cake! Your Christmas Tree was your first? I guess you did it while you were still in the Christmas spirit! That's a great green fabric ... love the overspray look of it!

Honchey 03-21-2012 06:28 AM

The block was so easy...too good to be true. I never noticed the extra serving of cake!!! I'm not going to change it...that's the extra piece for the baker!

Ladies, All the blocks are great.

JanRN, I'm trending towards novelty prints for whatever reason....just using what pulls me, fits the block and whatever supply is on hand.

Howdy all, your blocks for this week are just beautiful! Nice points, well done! Here are mine, one of my favorite cakes.

janRN 03-21-2012 07:18 AM

Anael, love the fabric you used in both blocks. Perfect points, too-beautiful.

Termi, how clever-carrot cake and your Christmas tree is gorgeous.

QuiltE 03-21-2012 07:25 AM

*giggles*
Termi ... I'll confess! .... I saw your comment about your "favourite" cake, and then looked and all I thought was, ummmm what kind, Tiger Tail? I guess all I saw was the black and orange and thought of the ice cream! I think it must be time for my late morning tea, don't you think? Now once I "opened" my eyes, I did the virtual slap in the forehead and SMILED and said, bang on, she nailed it!! And that you did ... and then followed it up with a well done Christmas tree, complete with snowflakes!!! :)

gardnergal970 03-21-2012 08:21 AM

Anael...your Christmas tree is classic. Really looks good. I'm intrigued how you used a fairly large print for the cake stand but it didn't detract from the block pattern at all. I'll have to try that.

Termi...your carrot cake looks yummy...and with the stripes in the Christmas Tree...it looks like peppermint candy! You brought dessert to the trail ride! Thanks.

You are so welcome, Cookie! I love your cake stand--looks like pink frosting, yummmy. And your Christmas Tree came out perfect. Great blocks!

QuiltE 03-21-2012 05:37 PM

Yeaaaaaa for CookieLM and JanRN .... for Perfecting PPing!!!
I'm SO proud of the two of you!!!

Thanks for your help Jan I almost understand pp now love your blocks

janRN 03-22-2012 04:27 AM

Mirabelle, your blocks are always worth waiting for. I just love the colors you are using. They are soft but incorporate just enough brightness, like the red stars. Very pretty and so well done!

gardnergal970 03-22-2012 04:37 AM

Cookie...looks like you and pp are friends. I still struggle with the reverse, mirror image stuff. Yours are very well done.

Mirabelle...again your fabric takes center stage regardless of the block pattern. I think the background for the Christmas Tree block is showing up for the first time. Great motion in it but not so much that the tree is overpowered. I love it.

JanieW 03-22-2012 06:58 AM

More fantastic blocks and fabric choices.

Termi, loved the carrot cake. Very clever. Your tree looks really good, too.

JanRN your cake stand made me really like purple and that's quite an accomplishment. I kept going back to look at it to convince myself it really was purple. Very striking. Great fabric choices for the tree.

Anael, I love the softness in the colour of your cake stand and your tree is so Christmasy.

CookieLM, Your blocks are terrific. I really like the brown/pink combo in your cake stand and your red tree is unique. Well done.

Mirabelle,
every weeks I admire your fabrics all over again. Your finished quilt is going to be so put together as opposed to my dog's breakfast. Your blocks are lovely.

After seeing everyone's trees put together the right way, I am contemplating changing mine. At the time I didn't like the upper left corner having the triangles go in a different direction, but after looking all all yours, I may have to do some frog stitching.

Great job, everybody!

Janie

You all do so well......I am just entering the Cake Stand this week. For whatever reason, I'm just not too fond of blocks made on an angle.....still, I have done a few, so I may end up doing the tree.....Time will tell....:) I do have fabrics I can use....just need to find time to do it......
BTW, I made this to look like cake(the darker fabric) with strawberries on top....not sure I achieved that, but that was my intention and is why the two enter blocks are darker.....

WONDERFUL blocks all :D :D :D

here are mine for this week

janRN 03-22-2012 07:57 AM

I love all the different fabric choices everyone used for these blocks.
Wendiq, it's lunch time and your block makes me hungry for strawberry shortcake-great job.
DD- great contrast in both your blocks. I love how your stripes line up in Christmas tree; not sure how you did it, but you sure did it well. Very pretty.

LovingIzabella 03-22-2012 08:33 AM

Beautiful blocks everyone! Since I just got my book I am going to start with these two. I have my fabrics picked and I will post my pictures as soon as I have them done. Will be paper piecing for sure!
Thanks for the inspiration everyone.
Hugs
April

Love all the beautiful blocks. Great work gals! Here are mine for this month.

janRN 03-22-2012 05:02 PM

Ooh, Jeanie, I love your blocks. I'm liking polka dots more and more and your little Christmas trees are so cute. What a great job you did on both.

QuiltE 03-22-2012 05:43 PM

What's there to say? ... you're all saying a lot of what I've been thinking as I look at the blocks!

MiraB ... It seems we are all in love with your fabrics ... which makes us automatically love the results. I too thought the green background was making it's debut!

WendiQ ... I "saw" Strawberry Shortcake before I read JanRN's comment! I can't wait for strawberry season every year!! The winter ones we get from California (sorry JeanieG) just don't compare to locally grown ones. June usually for berries ... who knows this year? You've got me thinking, as I do have some strawberry fabric and this might be a good place for it!

DDamsel ... so fresh and crisp with an antiquated look. Particularly for your Cake Stand. Perhaps it's some antique depression glass?

LovingIz ... we're all anxious for you to gallop in with your debut! :)

JeanieG ... I think you just took the FC PP Cake ... with all those FC trees and presents in your Christmas Tree!! What a Celebration Cake!!

I used templates for these two blocks. I have not figured out how to cut the fabric for PP. I seem to waste a lot of fabric, and I hate that. Anyone have tips on how big to cut the PP pieces, I usually just use a medium size piece of fabric and lay it on the other piece. I've never had a class on this and just watched the videos and charged ahead!

Termi 03-23-2012 05:01 AM

Oh JeanieG, what beautiful blocks! I love the polka dots and the fabric you used for the tree. Great fussy cutting!

For the better part, I don't pre-cut the PP fabrics, and just work with the whole piece of fabric.

I confess to the wasting of fabric! However, I do keep any pieces for crumb work!!

However, I also rationalize that the wastage is well worth it ... for the pointy points and perfection that comes as a result!

When FC+PP ... I cut a window in the line drawing, and frame it over for the fabric, then mark the outside edge, usually just at the corners (which would become the sewing line). Those new Frixxion markers have been heros for this! Then depending on the placement of the piece, I may cut it the precise size needed, or oversized. And then insert it in the PP was needed.

wendiq 03-23-2012 06:28 AM

JeanieG.....what a fun festive Christmas Tree.....Great fussy cutting......looks like a lot of presents and Holiday Cheer!

JeanieG.....as for saving fabric while doing the PPing......I use the Carol Doaks method and don't waste a piece.....I won't try to explain it. It's really easy and the only way I will do it anymore. I don't know if the Library has any books, but if you can get your hands on one (I'm a visual person and need pictures)it would help.

carriem 03-23-2012 07:03 AM

Wendiq--do you recommend the DVD or the "show me how to pp" book?

Just so everyone knows there are a few used ones on amazon and ebay...

Carrie
