What a perfect centre FC for Elsie's, GGal ... it really makes that centre look like it's bursting like a kaleido (if you know what I mean?). ITA the inability to have dots to match messed me up ... and I tried to mark in 1/2 and 1/4 but of course that didn't work, as the outside section was longer. So back to just easing it into place. The B+W is a great combo for D+D and the dimensions it creates.

And oh so nice with your sashing! :)

I also had a hard time sewing Elsie's favorite. I had to do it a second time. That old seam ripper is getting a lot of use by me lately. This is the last of my blocks for now. I will also post my first 30.
Right now I'm trying to get one of th GS quilt done. I still have 3 more GS to do yet. I would like to get them finished for Christmas but don't know if I will.

QuiltE 05-02-2012 05:47 PM

Yes! Yes!! Yes!!!
I'm sure you won't disappear on us ...
GrannyQ, please stick with the pack and do your two per week, as you work on the other projects!

JeanieG 05-02-2012 09:32 PM

Woo hoo, Gardnergal and GrannyQ - great job on this weeks blocks. Those Elsie's Favorite turned out great for both of you!

janRN 05-03-2012 04:29 AM

I'm still getting caught up on all the blocks. Each and everyone of you has done an outstanding job. I also thought the curves were a little awkward. Hoping sashing and quilting will tame them. What a difference fabric choices make in these blocks--they're all just beautiful.

How pretty Bev!

carriem 07-04-2012 04:45 PM

Bev--great block! I got the fabrics cut for this block today...might even get it sewn on Monday.

dublb 07-04-2012 04:50 PM

Termi 07-05-2012 09:07 AM

Beautiful block dublb!!!! Nice contrast and great job!

gardnergal970 07-06-2012 04:13 AM

I like how your block turned out , Dubib. Your y seams look really good.

QuiltingNinaSue 07-06-2012 08:50 AM

Love your colors!! You nailed that Y seam nicely! Now, encore with more, and more..... "eye" candy.

Not only am I green with envy like QNS, I swear this did not turn out like I thought it would. It was going to be such a pretty block too with an Elsie almost the Borden Cow in the middle. UGHHHH. No I am not going to redo it--just chock it up to operator error and find a substitute that I can put Elsie in. Now onto Does and Darts

dublb 07-10-2012 07:36 PM

OK I'm still workin' on this one!!!!! There is a good chance that I'll do a sub also.

This is going to be my substitute. It's called Irish Chain from Judy Hopkins "Around the Block Again" book. I have re-drawn it in EQ and saved the templates and PP'ing pages. Rotary cutting instructions are as follows from EQ:

Cut 2--2 7/8" squares cut on diagonal each from light, dark and dark II fabrics
Cut 8--1 1/2" squares each from light and dark fabrics
Cut 4--1 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangles each from light and dark fabrics
Cut 1--3 5/16" square focus fabric--Elsie for me

I have my block cut and sewn. Yeah. This was so easy to make without PP'ing. Another way to speed up the block construction is instead of
"Cut 8--1 1/2" squares each from light and dark fabrics
Cut 4--1 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangles each from light and dark fabrics"
Cut a light strip and a dark strip at least 24 inches x 1 1/2" and sew long sides together. Press toward the dark side then subcut this sewn strip into 8--1 1/2" strips and 4--2 1/2" strips. You should have about 2" leftover to allow for ruler slippage etc.

Oh and here's Elsie in a tidier setting surrounded by clover!

QuiltingNinaSue 07-11-2012 03:41 AM

Love the clover pattern and farm scene..especially Elise. Most people do not realize the 'gold mine' they have by living in the Mid-West section of the USA...fresh farm produce to put directly on the table. From milk to meat, from beans to squash, from eggs to fried chicken. Minerals in the soil are different from anywhere else and are reflected in the produce...and milk. I love it.

Looks like a pattern for my KT Clover pattern fabric...interesting.

gardnergal970 07-11-2012 04:24 AM

I like your substitute and I'm sure Elsie is happier with it for a home. That first block needs better markings if it is to be half way decent to do. Curves are not usually that hard!

carriem 07-11-2012 04:43 AM

OKSGlad--Your 2nd block looks great! I do like the fabrics used in both. :) I have fabrics cut for Elsie's Fav but haven't sewn curves in a block before (just clothing where it doesn't have to lay flat) so we shall see how that goes!

janRN 07-11-2012 04:46 AM

OKSewglad, thank you for posting your "imperfect" block--makes me feel much better about mine LOL. Ggal is right-the markings didn't line up at all, it was kind of hit-or-miss, mostly miss. I really like your substitute; colors and construction are great.

Anael 07-11-2012 05:55 AM

Oksewglad, I love your second Elsie. I saw you made the same mistake I did with the first Elsie!

oksewglad 07-11-2012 06:38 AM

Thanks everyone. I have sewn curved blocks before--in fact have a whole quilt with some. I was doing okay until the second round and once I saw I was having trouble I just didn't care if it came out even. So the block is trash. I figure if I'm not enjoying the ride then pass the block. This is my quilt, not the book's. At the same time, my humble homage goes out to those who mastered the piecing.

dublb 07-11-2012 08:11 AM

Oooo I just love your sub! An awesome block! Much better than Elsi's favorite!

QuiltE 07-12-2012 02:59 PM

Elsie looks like a very contented cow and enjoying her change of scenery!!! :)

ITA that block needs better markings ... matter of fact, how about markings, being that there were none, from what I remember! :)

Well I was able to start Doe&Darts yesterday and finish today. Some of the y-seams just went together and then others didn't like me so much...I'll need to square this one up for sure!

I have Ella's Star about half done...should be able to finish tomorrow.

oksewglad 09-23-2012 08:29 AM

I love the colors-Y seam problems? I don't see them.

JeanieG 09-23-2012 12:40 PM

Carrie - looks like your blocks ended up just fine. I know I had to re-sew a couple of mine too. I love the color combo you used on this one!

gardnergal970 09-23-2012 02:51 PM

Love your fabrics, Carrie.

Hey Dublb - that turned out great! I so love your patriotic fabric!!!

oksewglad 10-18-2012 09:33 PM

Anyone who did Elsie's block is a brave soul! Way to go dublb.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-19-2012 04:09 AM

Looks great!! Much better than my two I did!!

gardnergal970 10-19-2012 05:20 AM

Yes, good work, Dubib. That was a difficult block...and I also like your fabric.
