Ka-pow!!! Your 4 of July is such a great burst of fireworks!

Termi 07-04-2012 08:30 AM

Great looking patriotic block Honchey! So nice you posted it on July 4th, very festive.

We don't have a national birthday here. We only celebrate the queen's birthday, that's all. I guess we've always been here :D

Another ... "old" country ...... then there's we young'uns!
When do you celebrate the Queen's Birthday?
And how?

Termi 07-05-2012 09:05 AM

grannyQ, both your blocks are beautiful and sooo well done!!!

Ok, here is a try run to post picturesJohn's Favorite (and mine on blocks-to-do list)

July Fourth, Firecracker of an idea!! It is upside down to the way I made it, so if you stand on your head and look at it the right way, or mentally rotate block, you can see the way the block was created.

John had to have a dog; a boy and a dog just go together as friends.

carriem 07-05-2012 02:32 PM

QNS--two really great blocks! The dog in the corner is a nice touch. Love all your fabrics in the 4th of July block.

dublb 07-05-2012 02:58 PM

Perfect Sue!!

QuiltE 07-05-2012 05:50 PM

QNSue ... a perfect pair! Very patriotic for the 4th. And John's horses and cowboy dog are perfect. Great barnboard fabric there.

gardnergal970 07-06-2012 04:23 AM

QNSue...the barn board fabric really dresses up the block and then the fussy cutting for deputy dog...great job. Your firecrackers are the only ones I'll hear this year. Looks good.

Termi 07-06-2012 07:21 AM

Oh, QNS, your July 4th block is so nice and festive, great fabric. And....... so much creativity in your John's Favorite!!!!!
Great job FC the barn board fabric!! The dog looks like he's up in the loft.

QuiltingNinaSue 07-06-2012 08:43 AM

Thanks everyone. Yes, Termi, that was the idea to set Duke into the loft serving as his lookout tower. He is a Red-bone coon hound, very protective of 'his' owner and the owner's things. I had one as a child, and learned many things from him. He even snapped at my smaller cousin, who grabbed my doll cradle to play with it. Never bit her, just scared her by snapping close to her face. Also scared all the watchful adults.

oksewglad 07-07-2012 01:15 PM

Perfect placement, QNS. It's amazing what you do with fabric.

QuiltingNinaSue 07-07-2012 03:15 PM

Sometimes, Oksewglad, it amazes me. I start out one way, and end up going another a lot of times. It's like it 'talks' to me. No! or Yes! Like when I told the 6 turkeys to 'turkey talk' to me and they started 'gobble, gobble' back to me; my friend was a witness to it all and she could not believe it either.

oksewglad 07-07-2012 06:26 PM

I understand the "talks to me part". When I put my scrap mini's together that's what happens to me too. Sometimes takes forever to get the right answer though!!

We celebrate on April 30th. That was late Queen Juliana's birthday, our present queen Beatrix didn't want to change that. It's a national holiday. Where I live in the morning there's a huge kind of yard sale where kids (and adults) sell their stuff they collected during the year. There's also an art market with paintings, bobbin lace and things like that. And of course lots of beer :( In the evening music in a tent. No fireworks.

QNS, I love your blocks! You have the most amazing fabrics :D

dublb 07-07-2012 09:08 PM

Oh Aneal that's so neat! It's amaizin' what we learn here.

mirabelle 07-08-2012 03:40 AM

GrannyQ, Honchey and QNS your blocks are beautiful as always.

Anael I remember a long time ago I did a workshop trying to learn bobbin lace making. I never really mastered the art and do appreciate the long hours that go into making it.

QuiltE 07-08-2012 06:16 AM

Thanks Anael ... just like us, we celebrate the Queen's Birthday on Queen Victoria's, the Monday following the May 24th, her birthday. Most people do not know when Queen Elizabeth's is.

Here's my July Fourth. I don't do patriotic so I made one with Tulips :D

I did learn to make bobbin lace and mastered several of the different techniques but by far not all. You're right, it's very time consuming.

QuiltingNinaSue 07-31-2012 05:34 AM

Love the tulips and firecrackers!! Again, you come up with delightful colorful combos and have excellent points on all your blocks. Great job.

Anael 07-31-2012 05:46 AM

Thanks QNSue! The firecrackers fabric was a FQ I won a few months ago and I was waiting for the right block to use it. The colors are exactly the same as in the tulip fabric :D

oksewglad 07-31-2012 05:51 AM

Anael, when I see tulips I often think of Holland--so this is very patriotic for you! Pretty, pretty.

Anael 07-31-2012 06:26 AM

Thank you oksewglad. Funny thing is I don't have any tulips in my garden though I like them a lot! I used to have them in pots but that didn't work.

dublb 07-31-2012 04:26 PM

Oh I love tulips! I usually kill 'em though. Well maybe not me, maybe it's the W TX heat.:hunf:
Anael - Your block is very perfect for you. Just darlin'!

Now that's purdy! Nice sharp points & great contrast. Such a cute fabric.

QuiltingNinaSue 08-01-2012 02:49 AM

that's a 'purdy' block there, pardner. Looks familiar; you nailed things again...great job!! Anael. Beautiful work.

Anael 08-01-2012 03:23 AM

Thanks Bev and QNSue. It sure looks familiar :D

gardnergal970 08-01-2012 04:35 AM

Anael...I agree that tulips seem patriotic for you. Both blocks are beautiful and well done. You're catching up with flying colors.

oksewglad 08-01-2012 07:46 AM

Another great block.

QuiltE 08-08-2012 06:54 PM

Anael .. you may not do USA patriotic, but I'd say with those tulips, you did Netherlands patriotic ... and complete with fireworks too! Such a pretty outcome. And JOhn;s is so simple and so nice!

White is something that I don't often work with, and I am getting to see the merits in using it more when I see so many blocks and quilts on the QB where it has set the stage for a perfect showing.

I did both of these on Friday...

oksewglad 09-16-2012 08:41 AM

Lovely contrasts! I especially like the center fabric in the second block, Carrie. It looks like the same design as the lighter print in the first, but like the colorations better.

JeanieG 09-16-2012 10:31 AM

You really got a lot done at your retreat Carrie! That is what you went for!
