The FWS Pony Club Quilt-Along wk 25 July Fourth & John's Favorite Photo Page

Well guys, another week gone by and no blocks to show...Just when I started getting back in the groove then I get sick... ughhhhhh!!!! I'll have my sister make some chicken soup for me and then I'll just hibernate for a few days... I know I'll feel better when I get some "candy". H

Well thank you Anne for posting this early! I finished the blocks for this week and hoped that I could get them uploaded before we leave on vacation tomorrow. Yeah!!!

I see that Termi and I have the same blue fabric, that some great friend gifted us with. I've made several blocks with this fabric now - perfect for the 4th of July Holiday coming up very soon. My flag fabric is from the same source! Thanks you so much, my friend!

QuiltE 06-26-2012 04:01 PM

Well Well!! ... look at these blocks! :)

The two of you have started the weekly show ever so nicely ... and when I get back in the saddle, I'll have to see just what I can create with those fabrics for the 4th of July block too!

It seems that John must like mid-blue! What a coincidence that the two of you chose almost the same colour ... like the fun of yours
Termi ... and JeanieG .... that FC has such a nice hint of blue.

I'm going to challenge everyone to make one of the blocks in your quilt into a Canada Day block ... being that our birthday celebrations are coming up this Sunday, July 1st!!! :)

MiraB and Anael ... when is your National Birthday celebration? We need to include them in the quilt too!

carriem 06-26-2012 04:26 PM

Termi--great blocks. I especially like the red with circles of starts.

Jeanie--your blocks are great too. :) Love the movement of the flags.

No blocks for me this week...I was busy with quilting a lap quilt and the table runner I shared. I bought some fabric when I worked yesterday to make another table runner...this one is in 2 shades of green. I am going to add red buttons and red ribbon to make it look like wreath. Almost got it all together today, just a couple seams left.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else got done!

Oh what a great idea QuiltE! It would be fun to have a block from the different Country's! Maybe they have a block that we could substitute (or add) to our blocks so everyones Country's are accounted for.

Termi 06-26-2012 06:16 PM

JeanieG, I love both your blocks! I almost used my fabrics the same way you did in July Fourth. Your eagles look so much neater than mine and your horse is so pretty with the blue. Yes, thanks to our friend for the great fabric.

dublb 06-26-2012 07:24 PM

Oh my gosh! What beautiful blocks. I too have that wonderful fabric from QE! I'm workin' on a way ta represent each country that each of us are from for my quilt. I'm still workin' on tryin' ta use the Mariner;s Compasses from Carol Doak's book. They are each named for different countrys. I still haven't got 'em reduced right. ;)

mirabelle 06-27-2012 03:27 AM

QuiltE what a wonderful sentiment, Australia Day is the 26th January.

No blocks from me this week, I think this is the first time I have missed (I mean been late). I had a wonderful weekend with my daughter and we went to a fabulous show called Direct from New York Les Ballets Eloelle's Men in Pink Tights. It was a comedy ballet with an all male lineup. But boy could they dance and to see men dancing on pointe was amazing.

Home on Sunday and had to help Son and Hubby with the last of the moving and setting up.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to sit at my machine and get some sewing done...

Here are mine with a "thank you" to our Canuck friend--who'd have thought fabric from Canada would show up in our July 4th blocks? I love it--we are truly an International Community.

Here are mine for this week...

JeanieG 06-27-2012 06:36 AM

Oh wow Jan, your quilting on these blocks is amazing. Love the little leaves and vines in John's favorite! Did you FMQ those? Awesome! And yes, so exciting to see all the same patriotic fabric in our blocks!

Very pretty blocks Deranged! You must have been posting the same time I was!

janRN 06-27-2012 08:31 AM

DD I love the background fabric in your blocks--so pretty. Great job on both blocks.
Jeanie, thank you. I don't know if what I do counts as FMQ. I draw the quilting design on my block then just kind of top stitch along the lines. Is that FMQ? These little blocks are fun to quilt; I have to watch that I don't over-quilt them. This is so much easier than trying to do when the blocks are sewn together.

QuiltingNinaSue 06-27-2012 10:16 AM

Everyone has beautiful blocks; I am enjoying the eye 'candy' time and time again. Lovely colors and work on all. So wonderful for the Fourth of July; but I am behind and getter behinder by the week. May be I can catch up next week.

carriem 06-27-2012 01:26 PM

Jan--I like your blocks too. :) The birds are fun. The star and vine/leaves quilting is great. Even if you don't call it FM, you did it well!

DD--great blocks as always. I like your background fabric...I was going to say "paisley", but see it is more of a leaf...either way, I like it.

dublb 06-27-2012 02:50 PM

Lovely blocks DD! I really love 'em! That pinwheel in July 4th will really stand out.

mirabelle 06-27-2012 09:44 PM

Beautiful blocks everyone, now to try and sew for a little bit

This is my tribute to the 4th July, hope you like it. I hope to get the next block finished tonight (maybe)

oksewglad 06-28-2012 09:05 PM

"Stars and Stripes Forever" mirabelle. FYI that's the title of a famous American march by John Phillip Sousa

oksewglad thanks for the youtube link, I have watched that rendition on tv. I have seen a lot of precision marching bands playing that piece of music

woohoo I have my next block finished. I have been sewing in one hour blocks today, 1 hour of sewing and then 1 hour of sorting and setting up my new sewing room. It's starting to come together. (had better get it finished before DH comes home, don't want him having a heart attack when he sees the stash:p)
Does anybody find projects they forget they started or had even sewn, just asking, its not me its not really;)

janRN 06-29-2012 02:51 AM

Beautiful block, Mirab-I love that pale blue. Your quilt is going to be so pretty. And yes, when I clean my sewing room ( I believe the last time was in 1999 LOL) I found things that I didn't remember. That's why my PC quilt has some really strange fabrics--did I buy those? Glad you're back in the sewing room.

carriem 06-29-2012 03:43 AM

Mirabelle--your blocks are very pretty. I like the little stars sneaking in on your 2nd one.

I haven't been quilting too long yet so haven't forgotten any projects I've bought, however I do wonder how they can add up so fast! This month has been very productive though in the quilting dept...one quilt and table topper finished, just need to do binding on another lap quilt and finish up a wallhanging, plus a few PC blocks too. I might even have time to do both of these today. I find when it is organized it is easier to work because I *do know* what I have. :)

gardnergal970 06-29-2012 04:12 AM

Mirabelle...hummm...sounds like your DS has permanently lost his room...something about Mom setting up her "new" sewing room. No turning back, huh? That's a very good plan. You should have another week to get everything stashed and more out of sight. Have fun. BTY...I love your latest blocks.

Everyone else, I've been lurking but not commenting even though I've enjoyed seeing the blocks you've postd. I have mine done and will try to post them today.

oksewglad 06-29-2012 02:33 PM

Oh GGal, some of us are lurkers and shurkers!!!! Who? Moi??
Again a pretty pretty block, mirabelle. Yeah new space. FYI, we won't tell if you don't.
OBTW 3yo and 6 yo both told me I had a messy sewing room, but it looked much better last night.

Termi 06-30-2012 03:41 PM

mirabelle, your July 4th block is just beautiful and so is John's Favorite. That light blue is just gorgeous!!

QuiltE 07-01-2012 06:25 AM

Here's what's been happening in this part of the world ....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2he3gF5uSM

And I think many of the rest of you have the same!! :D
So, as a result, I have been away from the computer a lot as my office is the hottest room in my non-a/c home! The good news is that my sewing room is in the walk out basement, so lots of light, and nice and cool. Sadly, no PC, as I've been trying to get
Monty the Mountie finished for Canada Day. Being that is today, I might get it done just in time ... if not, for tomorrow, being that it's the Stat Holiday!

Glad to see that many are enjoying their USA fabrics via Canada! And am excited to see the interest in representing all countries in our quilts. I'll look forward to seeing how everyone chooses to honour each!

JanRN ... great combo of the fabrics ... it really makes the friendship star pop out. John's Fav is mine too ... great FC to show those birdies. When you do your quilting, do you mark your lines on first? or just go at it? Nice quilting!

MiraB ... glad the move is over. Now you can get serious on your move into your new room! It'll be exciting to start fresh with your sewing room, and organize accordingly. And think of all the things you are finding!! :) More projects, right? Good plan, one hr sewing, one sorting! And a pretty pale blue block you have made. Your July 4th block really epitomizes the USA!

OKSGlad ... YIKES! for the Grands comments ... you'll have to give them a lesson on diplomacy!! :)

DDamsel .. as always yours look so delicate. I think some lace would work in nicely with your quilt. Borders?

GGal--some more great blocks!

dublb 07-01-2012 03:47 PM

Mirabelle - Lovely blocks! I still love those roses! It does make it easier not ta miss your DS if ya have a new sewin' room. When ya miss him, just go & sew.
GG - Niiiiiice! Your star really pops & I see roses in your John's favorite, too. PS We miss ya.

janRN 07-01-2012 05:13 PM

Ggal, beautiful blocks from you as expected-you never disappoint! Your star stands out so nicely and I love the floral fabric you used in JF.
QE thanks for the compliments (and the fabric). I'm very anal--I can't just "wing it"--I have to draw all my lines on my blocks and then stitch over them. FMQ?? Not for this control freak LOL.

QuiltE 07-01-2012 07:48 PM

GGal ... a grand pair! Love the starry sky in your 4th July. Or are they white fireworks? Looks so nice with your sashings/cornerstones.

JanRN .. Nothing wrong with markings. You really do a nice job and I like the unique designs that you use for each.

mirabelle 07-01-2012 10:04 PM

Thanks everyone for the wondeful sentiments, I haven't had time to miss him as he is only 3 streets away and seems to pop in a lot:D when he is not working. I had better get a wriggle on and get next weeks blocks done. I can't really move in to my new room yet as I am waiting on the carpet cleaners to come, hopefully tomorrow but I haven't heard back from them for confirmation.
DH will be home on Wednesday so better do some grocery shopping, he might want me to cook;)

Happy 4th of July all of you...my neighbor here in NC has been away and for some reason I couldn't get online.....The heat here has been oppressive....heat index of 116...just horrible... I haven't seen your blocks..the photos won't come up...as in the past they have all been great...I actually get my inspiration from you guys...seeing what colors and fabrics being used...I have my July 4th done and it certainly is sparkly....I hope you enjoy the fireworks...H.

janRN 07-03-2012 04:22 AM

Love your block, Anne-very patriotic and well done.
Hope you're feeling better. Had to take Patches to the vet and he got the same treatment you did--steroids and antibiotics. I should have purchased "pet insurance"--I could get 10 rx's for the price of one of his. This heat isn't helping either; we need rain so bad. Take care and stay inside (and sew LOL).

QuiltingNinaSue 07-03-2012 04:36 AM

Love your block, Anne. All the lovely blocks make my fingers want to start the block. Not half done on Chains of Love, so sigh, it will wait a bit.

gardnergal970 07-03-2012 04:46 AM

Beautiful block, Honchey. Glad you're feeling better. Stay cool.

carriem 07-03-2012 04:47 AM

Anne--I really like your block; great movement on the 'pinwheel'.

deranged_damsel 07-03-2012 05:05 AM

OOOooooooHHHHhhhhh PRETTY :D

QuiltE 07-03-2012 07:19 AM

Honchey ... a perfect block for the 4th ... sure conveys the spirit of the holiday!
