I did it...3 weeks in a row I have both blocks for the week done...Yeah!! Are we as a group going to sub blocks for our international buddies' flags??? I think that we should name them also for them. What do you think???
My Blocks...look closely at the red fabric...

oksewglad 08-21-2012 05:20 PM

Anne these are wonderful--especially like the fussy cutting on the NY block. I'm working on these now. I am using the Aussie/kangaroo fabric from QE in the North Star block. Have you checked last week's discussion page. Lots of chatter regarding some substitute blocks.

Honchey 08-21-2012 05:52 PM

Yes, I have read them and think the tulip & frog blocks are cute and would also like to do them...which blocks will be subbed or are we all on our own for that?

oksewglad 08-21-2012 05:56 PM

It was my opinion that it would be on your own. Back to sewing. DH had just interrupted me again. :-)

carriem 08-21-2012 06:17 PM

Honchey--your blocks are both great! I like the floral fabric in North Star and all your fabrics in NY so your support for the troops. :)

Okay I am back at it. Cleaning the sewing room was cathartic and sharing what I have gotten done with SIL and DS motivational to get me back on track with the PC as well as FWS and the Barbara Brackman CW blocks that I have started. My North Star took a detour south with the Aussie fabric; USA flags also a "gifted" fabric. NY took on its life with this center eagle (a gifted piece) paired with the red stripes from a certain Japanese fabric. Thanks to all the friends who contributed to these 2 blocks.

Honchey 08-21-2012 08:15 PM

Oksewglad, I love the way you used the fabrics in these blocks. I had to look several times at North Star to see if it was the same block!!! The red stripe in NY looks veeerry familiar...don't you love the way the fabric changes in the light???

oksewglad 08-21-2012 08:48 PM

Thanks Honchey! We've all said it before how the fabric selection changes the look of a block. Yes and that red is such a beautiful fabric to sew on as well.

JeanieG 08-21-2012 09:19 PM

Oh you gals did a marvelous job on those blocks. I'll redo my North Star and get the NY block done. Back to the sewing machine!!!

Honchey I love your fabric choices and OK I love the kangaroo, what a great idea
Here are mine for this week, just finished them, hope you like my NY block.

mirabelle 08-21-2012 10:11 PM

gosh my blocks always look wrinkled I swear I have just finished pressing and starching them honest injun

BETTY62 08-21-2012 10:24 PM

Beautiful blocks. I look forward to seeing the blocks you group dpes. Keeping them coming.

JeanieG 08-21-2012 10:30 PM

Mirabelle - I love those stars in the NY block. Your North Star turned out perfect!

oksewglad 08-21-2012 10:34 PM

Mirabelle, I think it's because we put them in the scanner--it distorts them just a wee bit--totally out of our control!!
And of course they are just gorgeous as always.
Thanks so much Betty62. Why don't you join us?

mirabelle 08-22-2012 04:22 AM

Thanks JeanieG and Oksewglad I really look forward to our chats each week. Don't know what I am going to do when we finish this quilt. Does anyone have any ideas ?????? I think I will start having withdrawal symptoms:o

janRN 08-22-2012 07:46 AM

What great blocks this week. Anne, I love what you did with all the fussy cutting in NY, really love the blue star fabric; and I don't think your North Star is backwards.
OKSewglad, great international "flavor" to NS-just like our group; and love the eagle in NY.
Mirab, I was wondering how you'd fit a flag in your color range--you nailed it. Love your choice of fabrics. As to what to do when PC is finished, how about joining us on a new adventure: Quilts for Rosie. The blocks are 10" (seems huge!) and there are NO y-seams. Check it out-there are some of us PCers signed up already.

Oops, forgot to post my blocks. I substituted (wonder "Y") a block called Not Too Fussy from QuiltersCache for NorthStar.

oksewglad 08-22-2012 08:02 AM

"Y" not too fussy? It's a great block too! The brown you used is a wonderful piece showing lots of movement to complement the movement in the horses. Fabric choices in NY are top as well.
RE: Quilts for Rosie I don't know if I dare start another project!!

gardnergal970 08-22-2012 08:37 AM

You know when we finish this in November or so, we could do a thead just on getting it put together and not wind up with another UFO and think about something for the beginning of next year. I have to admit, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you and these threads are my first look in the morning and my last before I turn off the wifi at night!

Honchey 08-22-2012 09:04 AM

Have no fear Mirabelle and all you...just as the FWSQuilt-Along still pops up every now & then so will this one..unless we're told by the higher ups we cannot continue...we will have a "putting it together" thread & a completed quilt photo thread...that should keep us going for awhile until someone decides on a new project that we all like. I, too, am addicted to the daily/weekly socializing... H.

JeanieG 08-22-2012 09:40 AM

Jan, isn't Quilts for Rosie a PP quilt? I don't think I can handle a full quilt in PP'ing. I am still not that fond of it.

oksewglad 08-22-2012 09:48 AM

Jeanie, I checked the Rosie thread earlier today. It is 10" PP blocks, but only 20 of them. I didn't look at them too closely, but discussion said you had to copy the PP patterns from the book. The PP skills I have learned doing the PC blocks I will use when faced with a block that's difficult to piece using rotary cut methods. Doubtful I will make another quilt strictly PPing. The riders on the trail have kept me going in this endeavor. Thanks so much.

janRN 08-22-2012 01:34 PM

Come on, Jeanie. These blocks will be easy (yea, right LOL) compared to FWS & PC. They're 10" finished (or 4" if you dare) and only 20 of them. I'm looking forward to larger blocks and a smaller quilt. Go to the thread and check out a pic of the finished quilt. FWS & Pc have been such fun rides; I want to hang out with you guys some more. Who's gonna nag me and encourage me???? Who's gonna put up with my whining????

gardnergal970 08-22-2012 02:34 PM

I too am not so fond of PP and definitely don't have the bandwidth to take on a new weekly commitment even if it's only one block. I want to do a better job of keeping up with the PC riders, the BOM I'm doing, the FWQS that I have about 30 more blocks to do, and stay current with my quilting class work all while working in all of those "have toos" that crop up. Did I mention the UFO pile I want to eliminate? I have and easy time starting a project but the finishing often gets held up for some reason. Sorry Jan but I'll bet that there are others in that group to cheer you on. That seems to be the way of quilters.

Here are my blocks for this week. I redid the North Star, but it still looks kind of wonky. Much better than the first time though. I have one more BOM that I am working on, then I am all caught up with both BOM's and PC blocks. Yeah! Doing the happy dance! :D

oksewglad 08-22-2012 04:25 PM

The use of just brown and cream in your NS block draws attention to that lovely shade of green and the horses heads. You were spot on not to add green to the other pieces in this block. Just lovely. The white makes the field of this flag pop. Very nice on both, Jeanie.

janRN 08-23-2012 01:37 PM

Love your choice of colors, Jeanie.

Ggal, I got tired reading your list!!

Love the different looks the fabrics give the patterns. What amazing quilts we all will have! I have only one for this week. I'm planning a sub for the y seams and just haven't decided which one...the maple leaf or frog. I'll surprise you.

oksewglad 08-26-2012 07:07 AM

Actually GGal , the "Y" seam in the NStar is a very lazy "Y" and not as difficult to sew, but sewglad you have some substitute choices.

dublb 08-26-2012 04:45 PM

Oh GG I love your NY!
