Guess What???? I have a block for this week done...granted it's the easier one...still...It's done...I'm really going to try to get a few of the previous week's finished this week...I have several in different stages of completion...

I had to take the center square from another block I started and the cowpoke isn't centered too well but at least he's in one piece... I also didn't pp this block...I can't believe the pping in the book for this block!

Here is my Western Star....

Hooray!! Love your Western Star with the cowpoke riding onto the scene. [ATTACH=CONFIG]376404[/ATTACH]Western Star is the coyote, singing his song all through the years in the West-of-the-Mississippi countryside...and the wild mustangs that roamed the West...now only in limited areas.

And Virginia Star...again?? O r is it time for village school house again???:shock:

Ok, its the last two blocks!! [ATTACH=CONFIG]376406[/ATTACH]Young Man's Fancy is the last block in the book, also called Broken Canoe or Iowa Star...pattern downloaded from another site....paper pieced to celebrate the last one!! A bit of several pieces of fabric: horseshoes for good luck, and a red star (Canadian blue ribbon color) and a bucking buck ride finished, finally!! We made it to the finish line, watching others crossing that line...and cheering them onward. What next, PC riders??

Honchey--I forgot to comment on your block earlier...great job getting one done! Perfect fabrics.

Jan--I like your fabrics and quilting too...the circles on WS change the look. What is the name of your sub. block?

Honchey ... So good to "see" you! I'm sure I'll catch up on the Sandy-saga in an earlier thread! A cutie cowboy and perfect fabrics in the mix!

QNSue ... as always some great stories to go with your blocks. You have put so much thought into the selection of your fabrics for each. Oh the memories you have brought back for yourself ... and again, I sure hope you are getting these documented for DGS!

CarrieM ... great pair there! Your fabrics always look so warm and inviting. Is the 2nd the official one or a sub?

I'm getting confused as to what blocks are what for the week! Wish I had my pattern book here at the computer to check out Laurie's. BTW ... has anyone heard from Laurie?? Sure would be nice if she dropped by to join in the finale!!

JanRN ... Your colou/fabric choices are absolutely perfect! I especially like the turquoise one. And your quilting really enhances the pieced work!! :)

Honchey...even when you were not well or dealt with Sandy, you kept us all "roped in" and on the trail just like the little boy in your block. I'm so thankful that you took us all on. I echo what Carrie said, I was not on FWS either but you all welcomed me on this Pony ride and I'm richer for it.
I'm looking forward to seeing your completed top, Carrie. Jan, what is the name of your sub block? It looks like it should have "y" seams but it doesn't.
QNSue...I'm across the finish line also and echo your question...what's next? I have the bonus blocks in process and those will be done and exchanged in January, right? Someone mentioned doing the 50 states and then there is Carol Doak and her 50 star quilt and those are all pp'd. I notice she also has a book Mariner's Compass Stars: 24 Stellar Paper-Pieced Blocks & 9 Easy Quilt Projects which could be interesting. Might be out of our comfort zone in the beginning but could be fun to work at together. Then there is the Civil War Diary which I believe has 150 6 inch blocks. I am still working on the FWS and am not sure I want to tackle another one with so many blocks. Two a week sounds easy but it usually takes me a day since I have to shift gears, sort fabric, and watch my p's and q's as I assemble it since it's a new pattern for me.

Ggal, reallly pretty blocks, a great job as usual. Thanks for the compliments on mine. I did so many subs at the end I didn't know when to post what. Carrie & Ggal, the sub I used was called The Two Dollar Star from QuiltersCache; it's 8" and paper pieced and came out the right size.

I like all the ideas that you mentioned for our next project. I'm not sure about another civil war or old fashioned type quilt again like FWS & PC. I've always wanted to do a Mariner's Compass or New York Beauty or the 50 Stars but I'll do anything to keep hangin' around this campfire.

I went to my friend's quilting group (great group--they even fed me LOL) and they helped me lay out my PC blocks on large tables. It was so much easier than doing it on the floor--Patches seems to think he has to lay in the middle of what ever I'm working on. They were a great help in spreading out the colors/patterns so I'm anxious to start sewing it together. Too many other things going on right now but hope to start after Thanksgiving. I've also got 3 bonus blocks completed. I have to work extra the next few weeks--damn working gets in the way--but after Dec 1 I'll really get moving again on PC.

Ggal--I just looked up the "Mariner's Compass" book and it says there are 24 blocks named for countries...not sure what size the blocks are, but it would be one I'd be willing to do. The 50-stars one looks like fun...but of course I like pp'ing so I am open to other ideas too. :) I think it would be really great to keep making quilts "together".

JanRN ... glad that you now have your blocks in order, and ready to start stitching together! We've got to get you a design wall. I was SO thankfull to have mine when I worked on my FWS placements as I got a good view of it as I moved colours and block designs around. Maybe Santa would bring you one for Christmas? Glad it's not just me who has work get in the way of their sewing!! :D

Here are my last two blocks,
I love everybodys blocks, what a difference with everyones fabric choices.
I had issues with my final border fabric but I have resolved it now and hung it at our club venue yesterday, the most comments were "you made THAT" and "you're a sick puppy, look at all those little pieces".
I like the idea of Mariners Compass blocks, I made a Jinny Beyer quilt once a long long time ago that was a medallion with Mariners Compass'. I don't have it anymore I thinked it was loved to death.. It was all made with templates, long before I was introduced to PPing...

woohooooo MiraB ... you got thru to the end with your fabrics. I know you were worried about running out.

Great blocks, Mirab--can't wait to see it all finished. I got the same reaction to the PC blocks when I laid them out. They think I'm anal (why yes I am!). I told them about our group and the virtual campfire and all about everyone and the different look we're getting by using our own choice of fabrics. They were fascinated that we've been "hanging around" together for over 2 years. I explained that yinz converted me to paperpiecing and I think I converted one or two of them.

JanRN my club members think the same of me, when I try and explain how we have been sewing together they just look at me like I am from outer space.
Yesterday I had a conversation with one about the history of the Pony Club and the letters in the book and how much I love the history behind quiltmaking and her response was dismissive which makes me very sad.
There is so much more than just picking a pattern and sewing it bits of fabric together, well I think there is anyway. Funny though when they want to know the name of a pattern or block guess who they ask:D

It's funny, when I begin to talk about the PC riders and come to the part that you are my friends but I've never met you, I kind of get a blank stare. For instance, when I talked about my friend in New Jersey that lives near Pleasant Point Beach where the hurricane hit or friends in California and Australia that do Bonnie Hunter quilts...I could go on for each one of you...they are amazed. I guess this group is sort of like having pen pals and we can read each others mail every day! I love it.:thumbup:

I haven't gone to far at talking about my virtual quilting buddies as when I mention it I get this "look" that all of "yinz" are going to come from outerspace and eat me alive and and and .......!!!!! Amyone relate?

I don't protest with explanations, as when they really don't want to know (and have their minds made up!), they will never truly understand how I have been blessed by all of you, the friendships we have made and all that we have each gained along this quilting trail. Their loss!

I don't have any IRL quilting friends ... yes, I have friends that quilt, though none that I meet and sew with or do any quilt planning with. Honestly, sometimes I feel closer to you ladies, my PC/FWS and some other QB friends than any IRL quilting friends.

Truly, I am blessed! :)

Absolutely, GGal ... I told many about being worried for my NJ friend as we had not heard from her.

Or how about when we tell someone about a technique or tip or trick we learned from our online friends.
Or when I ask at a LQS for a specific notion and of course, they do not have it. (So often USA has things long before we get them here in Canada.)

I know my two LQS' have not been overly supportive ... so I try not to mention it now.
Jealous of business lost (courses, LAQ etc.), I'd say.
Instead, they should be looking at it that if I do more sewing, there's more business there for them with my needing more fabric and supplies.

Wouldn't you know it???? I'm looking for the photo page for Young Man's Fancy 'cause I just finished it...and ...there's isn't one!!! Oh My...I wonder what happened...:)...well, here it is...a little wonky but that's ok..it's just like me...wonky...
