Oops it didn't upload my photo, back to the drawing board

mirabelle 11-24-2012 11:14 PM

The file is too big and I have tried to resize it but there is a problem, DS will be here for dinner soon and I will have him do it for me (cause he is the computer guru)

Now it is time to have dinner

Anael 11-25-2012 03:49 AM

I think you did right with the blue border. I love your quilt! It's gorgeous!

janRN 11-25-2012 05:24 AM

Oh my! I knew your quilt would be beautiful when we were showing our blocks. It's even more than I thought it would be!!! It's gorgeous. You did such a great job with your color scheme and your sashing and borders just add to it. I absolutely love it. Congratulations on such a beautiful quilt.

gardnergal970 11-25-2012 05:56 AM

Mirabelle...you nailed it with the blue border. What a great eye you have for getting it just right. I've seen that with your blocks so I'm not surprised. I saw you comment on the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt thread that you are not doing that one and some place else last year that you had 3 UFO's to do. My hats off to you but I can't resist this one but will not be doing the MM one at the shop. A little self discipline, huh? Of course I could use more. My PC blocks will be coming out of the drawer this next week as I begin assembling them in between BH's headers and Enders!
dubib...your DN's quilt is darling. So sparkly and alive. How is your DGM doing? And more to the point, now are you doing?
Honchey...I'm glad you're getting better. You need a couple of wool quilts to cuddle in when it gets cold and you can't have your electric blanket. I have one ready for binding I'm planning to use this winter. The only heat in our bedroom is what comes up the stairway!
OKSewglad...sounds like your GC really enjoy being at your house. Back to quiet and routine soon, huh?
JanR...the month is almost over so you won't have so many hours of work. Enjoy your new toy!
carrie...did your daughter like her new sewing box? Have we set a date for when we are to have the bonus blocks to you?

QuiltE 11-25-2012 06:35 AM

more *sighs*

MiraB
... beyond belief! The navy border frames your masterpiece, wonderfully. And the blue cornerstones are a perfect touch to the overall *sigh*ing look! :) I loved it as a WIP ... and am overwhelmed with it all put together. Now onwards to quilting. What about doing it yourself? You certainly are capable from what you have shown us with your other projects.

And it looks like there's some more completions to come very soon!!!!
:D HURRY!! HURRY!!! HURRY!!!! :D

You know, I have no patience! :)

Honchey 11-25-2012 07:25 AM

Wow! Congratulations! The first one to be done! Kudos to you Mirabelle....You get the grand prize!

Yes, The blue border was the way to go...you were right about floral blending in.

QuiltingNinaSue 11-25-2012 08:31 AM

Wow, Mirabelle, you nailed that down quickly....just too well!! It may take awhile before all of us finish ours so nicely....I think a couple of others are close to a finish...me, not!!

Good to hear from several riders and know you have survived the stuffing day of stuff the turkey and ourselves. One child told me it was the official opening of the turkey season....turkey on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year Day.

GG, do you need to invite those DIY guys to your house to finish some projects your dh has started?? Like the kitchen?? 'Course that might make a good reason to eat out a lot and not cook. Cold bedroom?? I like it cool, but not cold enough to freeze my feet....we use a little Wal Mart heater in each of our bedrooms, and a unventilated gas heater in our 'great' room to keep warm.

Me, not on any new project...too many UFOs...some better than 15 to 20 years old that need to be completed...sigh...I am still catching up on my rest from doing a weekend with dd and family, then Thanksgiving with 19 guests....and trying to use up leftovers...clear the freezer again from what they brought and left...brrrr...its cold outside, and expected since it is winter...but it is hitting me harder this year....time for the wool and cashmere clothing. Oh, for heated floors in the house sitting on a cement slab.

dublb 11-25-2012 08:46 AM

Karen It's beautiful! I kinda liked it w/the rose border, but wow that blue border sure makes the blocks shine.
It's kinda cool here th'smornin' but no where near freezin'. It's in the lower 40's, but th'safternoon it'll be in the lower 70's or upper 60's. Yesterday I opened the back door & let the breeze flow in.
DGM is doin' better & using her walker religiously. I'm better. I'd like a day ta do nothin' but I bet it won't happen.

oksewglad 11-25-2012 09:44 AM

Talk of the day--mirabelle's wonder. I liked the first border, and wondered why you would take the time to change it, but you were so right. The darker border lets the blocks shine forth. You did such a wonderful job of balancing the light and dark blocks through out the quilt.
So glad to hear everyone survived the holiday and all are getting healthy. Unfortunately I have another trip to NW Iowa as my dear Godmother (88) passed away. Hers will be the third funeral in as many months.

dublb 11-25-2012 10:43 AM

OK I'm so sorry ya have ta go through that. I have learned that there is healin' in tears. Let 'em flow & let God. {{{Huggs}}} Let me know if ya want ta talk.

QuiltE 11-25-2012 10:54 AM

QNSue ... post-busy-ness ... me-thinks it's time you declare a Be Nice to QNSue Day, and put your feet up for a bit! :)

OKSGlad ... So sorry for your loss. Travel safely as you come and go ... and allow yourself a sidetrip down memory lane in honour of your Godmother.

DublB ... so glad to know your Gran is up and moving about!

JeanieG 11-25-2012 11:51 AM

Oh yes Mirabelle, that blue border was just the thing to bring out those blocks. What a nice frame around the whole quilt. I'm glad everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm missing all the left overs, as we left them at my son's house. Glad to be home and am getting ready to start my Bonnie Hunter Easy Street Mystery!

Anael 11-25-2012 11:59 AM

Oksewglad, I'm so sorry for your loss!

Ggal--you asked about the sewing box. DD really liked it and the FQs I filled it with. :) She was sure to show Grandma and her aunt when they came over the next day.

Mirab--Your quilt is beautiful...as expected! I agree the the blue border finishes it very nicely.

OK--sorry to hear of your loss.

We heat with wood, so like some of you mentioned, we have "cold" rooms. I had planned to spend time quilting this weekend...Friday I was down with a migraine, Saturday was spent switching bedrooms with our girls. They have complained of a cold bedroom since we moved in. Dh likes to sleep in a cold room and we always had to be sure the door to our room was closed, so I got this idea and all agreed. I of course was going to wait until next week, but the girls thought it was good to just do it yesterday. :) So...that is what I spent my day doing and still working on some stuff this afternoon. It will take a few days to get everything in it's new place, but at least the beds and clothes are switched.

Other than work on Monday I have the rest of the week free, so I *will* be able to get some sewing done! I have a demo to finish prepping for (Dec 1st) and 2 tablerunners for Christmas gifts and then I can get back to sewing what I want to and not what I have to. :) YAY!!

Oksewglad I am so sorry for your loss, if you need to just chat we are all here for you.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, I am so pleased to have it finished. I am working on Bonnie Hunters Jamestown Landing, remember DD and I made hers while at retreat. My plan is to have it finished my Christmas, will quilt it in the New Year at LQS.

Pony Club is going to be quilted by a longarmer, yes I know I can quilt, but big quilts seem to end up a chore to me and I don't enjoy doing them. When I quilted my embroidered quilt it was done in sections which made it easier. Small lap quilts are more fun.

This is the progress I have made this week

Next time DS comes over will get him to hold up my snuggle (charity) quilts so you can see how busy I have been this year

QuiltE 11-25-2012 02:43 PM

CarrieM ... Your daughter looks very pleased with her box. A treasure to have and filled with memories for years to come!! :)

MiraB ... Another spectacular quilt .... Is that your DDs Jamestown Landing? I'll be looking forward to seeing your latest charity quilts. With all you have shown us, and the charity ones from before ... I really wonder how many you have completed this year? I know it'll be a big number!

PC Bonus Blocks---

Hello Ladies, after checking with Honchey, we have decided to see what works best for most as far as a due date.

Mid January or Early February

Please let me know what is best. I will be sending an email out too, just in case there is anyone who hasn't seen this thread yet.

Thanks, Carrie

QuiltE 11-25-2012 02:58 PM

Anael, MiraB and I will have added mailing time issues, so probably will need to get them in the mail two weeks earlier than everyone else.

How about meeting in the middle of your dates and go with ........ February 1st?

Whatever date the group decides, I will get them done on time
*shock*
(I know!!!)

mirabelle 11-25-2012 04:05 PM

Carrie sent you an e-mail, I am really mopping my floors but had to sit and take a rest:D of course the chair at the computer was just convenient. It is really humid here today.
I will be starting my bonus blocks this week, will work them in with my Jamestown piecing

QuiltE that is my Jamestown Landing quilt, my DD's was blue and yellow and is now on her bed. She and I spent Friday getting all my pieces organised (and me) so hopefully all those different blocks will not confuse me.:D

QuiltE 11-25-2012 04:35 PM

duh ... I knew that ... my brain seemed to forget that! :)

I'll gladly let you have that humidity MiraB!
... none here right now and I'm quite happy with that! .... -4C :D

oksewglad 11-25-2012 04:39 PM

Emily and I finished her first quilt! And it has horses. Go to this thread to see

http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...t195329-2.html

QuiltingNinaSue 11-25-2012 04:41 PM

For me, and knowing well the curves that life throws in our lives...The 15th of February would be ideal for 13 people, to exchange by Valentine's Day. If we can finish early, and mail them to Carrie...so much the better. She can email the person(s) not not having turned in their blocks, if majority is turned in earlier.

OKsewGlad, sorry for your loss. Its never easy to say 'good-bye' to a loved one.

Love your blue and white, Mirabelle.

Since dh did not get his favorite pumpkin pie on T. Day, I baked them this afternoon. And an apple pie. Froze up in small packets of leftover turkey-oyster dressing; cut up the turkey and froze them in small packets, also cut up the chicken and froze it. Small meat packets will make quick soups on cold winter days. Made a huge pot of creamy turkey noodle soup from carcass of turkey bones. Will freeze most of it also for a quick meal on a cold winter day.

Yes, QuiltE, I did put my feet up for two days before I got bored watching TV and playing computer games...hopfuly will get into the quilt room tomorrow to finish the third boy's quilt for bf daughter's foster child.

carriem 11-25-2012 04:55 PM

QNS--great idea on the due date.

Let's say the due date is officially February 15, 2013...in my hands (so for those of you outside the US, plan to send by Feb 1st?). If I have everyone's blocks before that I will swap out and send back sooner.

QuiltE 11-25-2012 07:32 PM

OKSGlad ... what a Grand Grandma you are!! And what special memories you are creating with Emily. Now, to make something with cows! :)

QNSue
... proud of you that you did slow down for a couple of days! And now lots of "makings" back in the freezer for some great meals ahead.

CarrieM ... great plan re February 15th! Thank you for coordinating the Swap.

This will be the first swap I've been involved in ... and ... I'm EXCITED!!
It'll be so much fun to see what everyone creates for each other ... and then it'll become something really special to me, to remind me of you, my special friends!

dublb 11-25-2012 10:40 PM

I'm so excited about this swap, too. It is my first swap also. I'm thinkin' that I can make mine a li'le bit bigger so that ya'll can make it fit w' the others better. It would be better ta cut down, cause ya can't cut up. LOL (I know I have a weird since o' humor. :D) I won't have any points ta worry about cuttin' off.

mirabelle 11-25-2012 11:40 PM

Bev I love reading your posts always makes me smile, weird sense of humour who you??????

dublb 11-25-2012 11:53 PM

Yeah, me. LOL:cool:

gardnergal970 11-26-2012 06:09 AM

QuiltE...and we're getting impatient to see what's happening in your sewing room too. You've been home about a week, right?
OK...so sorry for your loss. Have a safe trip. Any more sewing lessons for Emily?
mirabelle...love the Jamestown quilt. Will you quilt it in sections too?
carrie...I got your mail and will probably mail my blocks early in January just to avoid the using the mail service in December.
QNSue...can't keep a good woman down....! Sitting just doesn't seem to be your speed.
well I do have points in my blocks. I'm sewing them very carefully so hopefully none of your will have to use a block stretcher!
BTW...I read a thread about Bottom Line thread and how it helped make seams more accurate since it is 60wt. What threads do you all use for piecing? I've been using Arifil and my machine like it but I know it's a heavier thread.

QuiltE 11-26-2012 03:06 PM

GGal ... yes and no ... I came home last Tues ... leave again on Sun for most of the week. I've been trying to work on Christmas stuff (non-sewing) and get it out of the way. Christmas cards written, and will finish addressing them tonight. Outside decorations are done. 4 pine wreaths made. Christmas tree bought and will go up tmro. Earliest I've ever done that, though have help to do it tmro night ... and being that I am heading out on Sunday, it seems kind of silly. However, my plan is that when I go on Sunday, I am decorated for the holidays and will come back to it ... with not a lot to do! Yea, right .... that means then I can get serious on the Christmas sewing.

I am SO sad for not doing any sewing ... though I will confess, I have a bunch of GFG done. I can see it's going to become a good travelling project for me and something to do when I am not in the sewing room ... like when I am talking on the phone!

Am doing a small wall hanging or table topper and am already thinking ahead that my next and GFG will be done as a TATW style, all in different florals. What do y'all think of that as a possibility? Make sense? or silly idea?

Honchey 11-26-2012 04:13 PM

QuiltE..how great to have so much done already...Our trip to NC is now postponed until after Christmas...With everything from the storm...cleanup getting the dormer secured from rain..we didn't notice the damage until the trees were removed...a bathroom fan vent got cracked and water seeped thru....we just covered it up... Will have to wait until early spring to get these items repaired...We will hopefully be staying for an extended visit this time...Winter isn't officially here yet and I'm already tired of it...we are due to get some snow tonite...I do love the snow tho'.....while it's snowing.
I printed out the sections of the block I'm making for everyone....now to cut them out while watching TV...we just finished eating a great pot roast with mashed potatoes and some broccoli...it was yummy...
Oksewglad..sorry for your loss...
And I want to thank eveyone for keeping this thread moving along with lots of chatter....I may be absent from the keyboard but I do keep up with it....

dublb 11-26-2012 04:37 PM

GG I'm lookin' so forward ta gittin your blocks & I'll take great care o' those blocks w/points. :)
I use Arifil or Gutterman 90% o' the time.

carriem 11-26-2012 06:46 PM

I use Aurifil for both piecing (have a cone of a light tan that has lasted through lots of quilts) and quilting (in coordinating colors).

Just saw others' responses and realized I did not reply to you on this, GGal.

I switched over to Aurifil a year ago. Til then, I thought that thread was thread and so what difference could the brand make? I have a different thought on that now!! :D

While it's a 50 wt thread, it seems to be so much finer than other 50 wts. And with that, you get a lot more mileage in a spool of thread. I use the same in both top and bottom. About the same time, I shortened up my stitch length, and that alone, has made a huge difference to seams IMHO. OK, I'll comine that with Best Press and pressing at every step of the way to produce good seams.

I have a LOT Of Gutterman and Mettler threads, and find I avoid them like the plague, now that I have a love-fest going with Aurifil. I do try to persuade myself to sneak back and use them on lesser favoured projects ... but it's hard as they are all favourites!!!

Honchey ... I can totally understand your not going to NC. With all that has happened, I'm sure you could not truly enjoy it for now, and would only be worrying about it all.Til then, I think you'll have to find yourself a local Bingo Hall!!! :)

dublb 11-26-2012 07:20 PM

Anne-I'm kinda relieved ta here your not gonna be travelin' while all those things are goin' on around ya. Sandy was such a bad storm. Maybe ya can travel later.
QE - What is TATW???

QuiltE 11-26-2012 08:08 PM

DublB .... TATW = Trip Around The World

dublb 11-26-2012 08:14 PM

Awwww, I should have know that. Duh! I think a GFG would be beautiful as a TATW!!!!!!!!!!! Go for it!!

Honchey 11-26-2012 08:30 PM

Oh, You remember my Bingo nights do ya!!! Well, I can go to Delaware for that...my sister goes to a church bingo every Monday eve...

dublb 11-26-2012 08:45 PM

That's better. :) Bingo that is closer.
