I thought it best to have just one page for everything....we can keep better track of it all ra ther than bouncing back & forth...I hope you all agree....H.

oksewglad 11-20-2012 08:15 AM

Sounds like a great plan! Probably won't hear much from me until weekend's over. Have a great Holiday.

QuiltE 11-20-2012 02:52 PM

What? you think we all bounce around on these threads?
Funny enough ... I was chuckling the other day as to how we'd bounced from one thread to the other, yet the same subject! And got thinking how confused others who drop by the threads would be! :)

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
to all my American friends!!!
.... I hope you have an enjoyable time time of appreciation with your family and the festivities planned are filled with many memories for years to come!

My American Thanksgiving this year will be filled with rejoice that you, Honchey made it thru Sandy and what followed.
And I will be recognizing the special blessings each of my PC/FWS friends have been to me.

Happy Turkey Time ... Ladies! :)

dublb 11-20-2012 10:14 PM

So when i finish my other blocks I should just post 'em here? Great idea. A final centralized location. I like it.

Ya'll keep prayin' for my DGM. They have found heart damage.
:(

QuiltingNinaSue 11-21-2012 04:21 AM

A fine day before Thanksgiving to everyone...the expectations are a'risin in waiting for the BIG turkey day tomorrow. I am so happy we have company coming in today and tomorrow! May it be a wonderful day for all.

Honchey, I hope you all are feeling better. Dublb, you all will continue to be in our prayers. JanRN, hope you get a very good offer on your Mother's house. It is not easy to clean out and get ready for a sale...emotions can run high. Places where we were raised and Grandma's last house are all gone...torn down. Time moves on. QuiltE, we give you permission to celebrate with us on our holiday...along with Anael...too...meet you all at the Virtual RV.

Off to the kitchen to do the casseroles and dessert cooking....have fun everyone!!

janRN 11-21-2012 05:32 AM

Happy day before to all of you! Thanks for your kind thoughts throughout this entire year. Yinz were my "safe place"; I could come here and just enjoy all your company. This year for Thanksgiving it's just DH (MrjanRN) and I but I'm still cooking all our favorites. We'll just be eating them for a few more days--yay! Haven't been in my sewing room (my other safe place) in a few days; having withdrawal.
Everyone have a happy, happy Thanksgiving--we all have so much to be thankful for. Eat responsibly--NOT! It's just one day and we can start a diet on Monday.
Peace-Jan

deranged_damsel 11-21-2012 12:05 PM

HELLO!!!! :D Hi everybody :D
sorry I have been MIA for a few weeks posts now... my computer quit, and Im TRYING to figure out this new one :O

Birthdays and Funerals... stuff just HAPPENS this time of year dont it????

HAPPY HOLIDAY

Honchey, is this the thread to use for bonus blocks????

dublb 11-21-2012 06:41 PM

Our holiday plans have changed. W/DGM in the hospital we had ta regroup. DM isn't able ta git ready for us while she has been at the hospital sittin' w/DGM. My youngest DSis has the biggest house so we are goin' ta her house & we split the things DM was goin' ta cook between us. Actually I didn't take anything else home ta fix, both o' m DSis's split 'em. DH & I are fixin' the turkey & fixin's anyway. We also decided ta have our meal at supper time. This way if DGM isn't home yet, or even if she is home but not feelin' able ta goin', my DAunt can sit w/her as my DA will have had her family's Thanksgiving meal at noon.

JeanieG 11-21-2012 09:05 PM

Sounds like your family just pitched in and figured everything out just great! Have a wonderful dinner dublb!

QuiltingNinaSue 11-21-2012 09:41 PM

Amen to that thought JeanieG. Like the others on this trail, I have been busy fixing up goodies for tomorrow. Cleaned up the kitchen for the night, so we have a fresh clean start in the morning. Way more work to do then; did not get everything done today that I wanted too...just too slow. Forgot about having to feed people today...skipped all my thoughts to tomorrow. So we sampled a bit of tomorrow today.

My time 11-22-2012 12:53 AM

Could someone please tell me what this pony club is about? We have pony clubs here but you actually have to have a pony, lol.

dublb 11-22-2012 01:00 AM

We all bought a book called the Farmer's Wife Sampler Pony Club. By Laurie Hird (I probably spelled it wrong.) It has 90 blocks & is so fun ta read about the kids gittin' their pony's. She choose a block that represented each story. Some o' us are done makin' their blocks & the rest o' us will be makin' blocks for a while ta come. (Like me. :) ) We'd be happy for ya ta join us.

mirabelle 11-22-2012 02:24 AM

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends, I hope you have a wonderful day filled with family and friends and turkey. I have never cooked a turkey so please QNS if you have a spare drumstick in the RV its mine:D

Bev I hope things settle down for you and your family and your DGM is able to celebrate with you.

Anael and QuiltE we will just have to meet up at the RV for a sampling of QNS' fabulous hospitality.

Will post pics of my finished Pony Club top on the weekend, tomorrow is a busy day for me and I was hoping someone else would post the first pic:p

QuiltingNinaSue 11-22-2012 04:14 AM

For 3 am on the clock, you explained Pony Club very well, Dublb. Hope things are getting better shortly for you.

honchey, remembering you in early morning prayers; hope you all get better and on the road to recovery.

Yes,, Mirabelle, in the virtual RV is turkey and stuffing ... one with oysters, the second with pieces of chicken in the stuffing. Green bean casserole, Sweet Potato casserole, Ham is comin' , and baked beans, green beans, mashed potatoes, 5 cup salad, 7 layer salad, salad fixings, incredible sweet corn, desserts: crunch, brownies, cake and pies.

Gotta go bake that turkey and make the dressing. You all take care and have a good day.:p

carriem 11-22-2012 04:56 AM

QNS---I hope that I can be like you when I "grow up". :) That menu sounds great!

My sisters and I will do most of the cooking..Mom never really enjoyed it much so she is happy to turn over her kitchen to us. We will be having much of the same, the only addition I can add is a carrot casserole...very yummy. It is funny I had asked Mom Tuesday if she wanted me to bring it and she said no she thought there would be enough. Then Wednesday when she and my sister were at the store, my sister called and said "are you bringing that carrot casserole?" LOL I gave her the recipe and she is going to bring it instead.

In case anyone wants to try it, here is the recipe:
1 med chopped onion
3T. Butter
4c. cooked carrots
1 can cream of celery
1 can milk
1/2t. salt
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2c. butter melted
3c. stuffing mix (fine, more like bread crumbs)

Brown onion in 3T butter. Set aside 1/4c. cheese. Combine the onion, carrots, soup, milk, salt and cheese. In separate bowl mix melted butter and stuffing. Then stir all together put in 2 1/2qt casserole, top with cheese.

Bake at 350...30min covered, 15 min uncovered.

gardnergal970 11-22-2012 06:22 AM

Mmmmmm......the RV smells good this morning! Bev, I pray that your family has an uneventful day and that you can enjoy each others company. Honchey, you didn't say if your health would keep you from getting together with the family. I pray that you and your DH have strength and are showered with much love today. Carrie, sounds like your family enjoys some wonderful traditions. Will you give your daughter the sewing box today too? QNSue...you sound like a Pearl Mesta...the hostess with the mostest. I bet people love to be in the kitchen with you and help keep things moving. Thanks for the virtual RV so our continental friends can enjoy the meal with us. Mirabelle...do you have anything similar to our Thanksgiving? And another question that might sound stupid...do you have turkeys in Aussie land?
My turkey breast is being cooked in a crockpot so I'm not sure when we will eat. The oven went out long before I got here and DH doesn't want to replace the stove until he finishes the kitchen counters. I'm not holding my breath. It's already been two years to get a plug-in rewired and a new ceiling done. I've come to the conclusion that relationships are more important than things so I enjoy everything he does do and don't complain about what he doesn't.

Here's my fresh cranberry sauce.
One bag fresh cranberries
juice of one medium orange...zest from the peel
1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar
1 tbs fresh shredded ginger.
put all ingredients in pan and bring to boil. The berries will pop. Reduce heat and cook for a few minutes until the sauce thickens some and remove from heat.
This beats anything that you can buy in a can.

QuiltE 11-22-2012 06:52 AM

It's just past breakfast, and you all have me drooling with all this delicious food.

A tradition with my "adopted" family are
http://www.quiltingboard.com/recipes...k-t202928.html
They're always a hit ... and should there be any leftover, which seldom happens ... they make a great base for a leftovers casserole or a soup. mmmmmm!!!!!!!

Carrie ... you have my attention with those carrots! Will be saving that as a Christmas potential

MiraB ... I can't wait!! I can't wait!! I can't wait!! to see your PC all together!! YIppppeeeee!!!!!!!!
Same question ... no turkeys in Aussie-Land? Hard to believe that'd be possible!! :)

GGal ... turkey breast in the crock cooks pretty fast. You'll find it's nice and juicy. As a suggestion, raise it up, so it doesn't sit in the drippings. I have a small dish that fits in upside down that works when I do a turkey breast or a meatloaf.

QNSue ... thanks for your all-inclusive RV, I think we non-Americans really are celebrating with you folks! I can almost smell the turkey cooking!! :)

DublB ... and please correct me Honchey, if I'm wrong ... my take is that we will still posts our 90 blocks in the weekly threads and this thread will be for the bonus blocks, any sub-blocks, and of course the completed quilt tops. Also, I guess, it'd be the place to post pics of the WIP tops as we work away at determining the placement, etc.

Am I on track here Ladies?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you all!
It's a perfectly beautiful mild November day here ... and will top off at 12C!!
so I hope it's as glorious for you as you enjoy all your festivities.

dublb 11-22-2012 10:18 AM

I got a minuet, so I thought I'd stop by while my cream cheese sits till it is room temp. :) I'll post where ever ya'll want me too. :)
I love the virtual RV where we all can meet & w/QNS's cookin' I'm droolin'!
Ya'll have a wonderful Thanksgivin' Day now, ya here?

janRN 11-22-2012 10:31 AM

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Very quiet here in janRN land. Just DH & I so like Ggal, just doing a turkey breast. Although not in crockpot. Laughing, Ggal, because my kitchen has been torn up since January. I'm working around a ladder, drill, extension cords, etc. Clutter drives me nuts but you are so right: relationships are more important. After 42 yrs of marriage, I'm resigned to the fact that he's messy/I'm neat. After dinner we're going to a Festival of Trees. They have donated, decorated trees on display that are actioned off in 2 weeks for charity. Some are so creative: railroad tree, Steelers tree (of course), and lots done by local businesses to reflect their business. Always lots of fun.

Please everyone, have a great day and give your loved ones an extra hug along with that extra helping of pumpkin pie.
Peace-Jan

mirabelle 11-22-2012 01:13 PM

Yes we do have turkeys down under, a lot of Aussies living in the southern states cook them for Christmas lunch, which is our important day.
Because we have lived in very hot areas we keep our Christmas lunch very simple, chicken, ham, lots of prawns and a selection of salads and maybe a hot potato dish. I have just never cooked a turkey, when I was younger my grandmother always cooked duck and pork for Christmas.

Honchey my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family on this important day for you, there is certainly a lot to be thankful for.

QuiltE you will just have to wait a little longer:eek: I am about to dash out the door to head to my embroidery club for the day, but of course had to pop in to say hi to everyone:D

What a terrible accident in Texas, it made our news this morning.

QuiltingNinaSue 11-22-2012 02:35 PM

All is well here; everyone came, saw, ate, divided up the leftovers, put the Great Room back to the way it was before, washed up most of the dirty dishes and went home. So you all divide the leftovers in the virtual RV...the ham, the turkey, the chicken and the dressing (two kinds), the baked beans, green beans with jowl & bacon, sweet potatoes, 5 cup salad, pies and brownies. Enough left here to do us a whole week and a half.

No, I have to have my kitchen if I am expected to cook; afraid that would be grounds for divorce with me. But each to their own and what they are happy with. Dh shows (as I do ) that we eat well. bf's daughters were quick to thank us for hosting the group so they could visit with their Mother & Father today. They were amazed at how BIG my kitchen is; most fun today was watching the daughters and granddaughter working in my kitchen...Guys got into a bit of the action too. Very informal, just ask where an item was, and I would point or tell them where it was in the kitchen. Funny, bf was telling my dh were some plates went today!!:o:o:o No one felt 'crowded' today with 19 people moving about in the kitchen or great room...little boys were running outside to see the guineas and ducks and chickens. Poor cats...between the two little dogs and kids, they disappeared during their visit here.

Thanks for the carrot recipe, Carrie...not what I would ever think of, but I love carrots and will try that delicious sounding recipe. Love the exchange of ideas here.

gardnergal970 11-22-2012 04:00 PM

Turkey got done in good time but we didn't go wild with the fixings. Just stuffing and cranberry sauce besides the usual peas and baked sweet potatoes. We did finish it all off with pumpkin pie. Ummmmmm. It was such a beautiful day here we climbed in the truck and just wandered the back roads for a couple of hours. Thoroughly enjoyable. Once home, i cleaned the kitchen, straightened my sewing room and checked Bonnie Hunter's blog to make sure she wasn't having an early Black Friday posting of her first clue for Easy Street. Nope.
QNSue...it sound like your guest thoroughly enjoyed your hospitality. It would have been fun to be a little fly on the wall.
JanR.... Right now things are pretty neat on the surface but so many things half done!

carriem 11-22-2012 05:25 PM

We had a nice day today too...left here around 11 and got home around 5. The weather was beautiful here today too. The guys went outside for a while and started a fire to sit around while visiting.

I have a husband that starts projects and doesn't always finish as quickly as I might. I too have learned the relationship is much more important. It would be hard if it was the kitchen, but since dh does as much cooking as I do, I doubt that would be a room to wait.

The carrot casserole was something an older lady brought to a church potluck several years ago. My husband really liked it and asked her to give me the recipe. :) It is almost a meal in itself.

Tomorrow we don't have much going on (no shopping here!), so should be able to spend some time in the clubhouse. YAY! I have a demo to prep for and then Rosie blocks to catch up on. I am working on squaring up my PC blocks here and there....I bring my tv tray/ironing board in and press a few while watching tv, then trim them down when I am back up in the clubhouse. After the demo a week from Saturday and 2 table runners, I am done with stuff I *have to* do so can get back to working on my PC quilts.

QuiltE 11-22-2012 07:29 PM

Whether celebrating with the multitudes (or as a couple, looks like some happy times were had today!

QNSue ... what a grand day ... and nice that everyone feels so at home that they just do their part and let you tell them where to find things! I had to laugh at your BF telling your DH where to put things in "his" kitchen!

GGal ... yea for a road trip!! I did that with a friend yesterday ... we had a few errands to do in Menno country, so along with that came some good back road touring!!

MiraB ... I'll be patient! I can understand your not cooking turkeys in the heat ... it takes so long, so the heat in your home would be terrible. I know some here who do turkeys on the BBQ, in order to keept the oven space for other things. Another friend bought one of the portable roaster ovens and has found it to be a great entertainment asset. She doesn't have a huge kitchen, so it often gets put out into the garage to keep the space for other things.

QNSue ... with all your cooking ... something you may need? ^^ ?

CarrieM ... your DH was pretty sly "please give my wife the recipe!". :) Wondering? do you always make it with cooked carrots? or what about using thawed frozen carrots?

Football? ... and how many of you played football? Isn't that supposed to be an American Thanksgiving Day tradition? And watch football?

dublb 11-22-2012 07:53 PM

Well I'm home & sooooo very full.

QE ta answer your question about football: I got ta listen ta my Houston Texans play, go inta overtime & finally win, for the first time on Thanksgiving Day. Usually we are at my DM's house & the TV is in the other room & the guys usually have the Cowboys on. (I really don't like Jerry Jones & I refuse ta support him. So I have my Texans.:)) I cooked ta day & the Texans were on where I could hear 'em, & some times I even snuck a peek at the game. It wouldn't have happened if we had had Dinner (at noon) instead o' Supper (at 6:00pm.)

DGM is still in the hospital. I sure hope she can go home tamarrow.

JeanieG 11-22-2012 08:05 PM

Sounds like everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

My son wanted ham instead of turkey (much less work in my book) so ham it was. We got a nice spiral sliced one, and I made scalloped potatoes. We had tons of food, they will have lots of left overs. Son wants to use the ham bone to make 16 bean soup, he got the beans when we were shopping the other day.

We are taking off tomorrow for home. Will take it in two days, so will be home late Saturday morning.

dublb 11-22-2012 08:34 PM

Well I just got a call from DM & they sent DGM home th'sevenin'!! DM left us at 7:30 & went back ta the hospital ta find out that they were doin' the paperwork ta send DGM home. :) Well DM's phone battery was dead so she couldn't call any o' us till she got DGM home.

Honchey 11-22-2012 09:58 PM

Well, I see that everyone got stuffed with all sorts of good stuff to eat....I roasted a 19 lb turkey for DH, DS & me!!! Put the bird in the oven...watched the parade while peeling potatoes...then the football games started and stayed on all day..sent DS home with a goody bag....now it's all peace & quiet.....It took me 3 days to do all the prepping for today...I was back in the Dr"s office yesterday...another shot and I'm also on a steroid regiment for 7 days...inhaler, nasal spray, eye drops...you name it ..I'm taking it!!! I forgot the cough syrup with the special stuff in it to help you sleep:) first nite I slept all thru until 7:30 this morning..I'm still coughing and all sorts of junk appearing....I look like a racoon with the brown rings around my eyes...lost 8 lbs (yay!)...BUT I'm starting to feel much better...Hooray!

I'm so glad all of you had a great day..especially you Bev...glad to hear your DGM is home...

QuiltE..you can post your blocks in the "official thread" or the Update thread...Wherever your heart desires!

It's way past midnight and I'm really tired so it's off to bed for me...G'nite

dublb 11-22-2012 10:03 PM

Anne, ya git ta feelin' better now, ya hear????

oksewglad 11-22-2012 11:18 PM

I just got my kitchen cleaned up again--and we had dinner over at our Aunt's house as we have for the last 35+ years, but all she fixed this year was the ham and the turkey. Everything else brought in--I hadn't made my mother's apple, raisin dressing in years so took that, as well as pumpkin dessert, and scalloped potatoes and gravy. Took black bean, corn salsa for an appetizer with corn chips. Good plan as instead of waiting on the dairy farmers (us), we had to wait on the turkey. Found out another "out law" cousin grew up on dressing made with soda crackers and real "wieners"--and how long have we known each other Ha Ha. Aunt sent home the carcass which I boiled up tonight. Tomorrow we are have creamed turkey over potatoes for the two families that are here for the holiday. Then house becomes quiet again. 3 little grands (9,8,6) are spending the night here with the boys and the 2 little ones at DS's. Those girls expect Gram to read a story before they go to sleep no matter how late it is. Tonight's selection from James Herriot's collection of Stories for Children...Market Square Dog. They wanted another so I promised the second story in the morning. Reading to the grands has always been a special time for us.
Get the long john's out folks, we went from a balmy 60 degrees today to freezing temperatures tonight with the wind howling even in our valley.

And no Black Friday shopping here either.

I finally finished this. It's my DN's graduation quilt. At least she got it the same year she graduated.;)

oksewglad 11-22-2012 11:47 PM

Bev, the black sets off the florals so nicely. Like the quilting too. Thanks for sharing.

mirabelle 11-23-2012 04:54 AM

What a beautiful quilt Bev, you did a great job with the quilting:thumbup: I am sure she will treasure it.

QuiltingNinaSue 11-23-2012 05:22 AM

Beautiful, cozy quilt, Dublb. One she can treasure and use anywhere she goes, wrapping herself up in a quilt made with love to remind her, she will always be loved.

Anael 11-23-2012 05:57 AM

Beautiful quilt Bev!

carriem 11-23-2012 06:15 AM

Honchey--so sorry to hear you are feeling so bad! Glad you were able to spend some time with family in spite of it and are finally getting some relief.

dublb--happy your DGM is home again. Your quilt is great...the black really gives it nice contrast.

QuiltE 11-23-2012 09:15 PM

Honchey ... glad to know you got to the Dr. and got what you needed to help you get on the mend. OOPS! re the forgotten cough medicine. You'll have to use Buckleys! Yeaaaa for Big Bird and all the leftovers. Hope you didn't send it all home with your DS and kept some for you and MrHonchey! ;)

DublB ... glad that your DGM got home and hope that she continues to improve. What a nice quilt for your niece. The black really makes the other colours pop. What a nice way to personalize her quilt, via the quilting! Such a nice treasure for her to have to wrap up in Auntie's love, when needed.

JeanieG ... now that must be some soup with 16 beans! Travel Safely!

OKSGlad ... another grand weekend at the OK Corral! Dining out must have been a treat for you, even with taking some of the food along. Special time for you with your out-of-town Grands ... more stories tonight? And yes, that cccccold wind blew in today and the temperature sure has dropped. A few of those S....... in the air, though no accumulation expected yet.

I finally have 5 minutes to spare so I think you have waited long enough for the big reveal.

Here is my finished Pony Club quilt top. The final border is the rose border print and I always had it in my mind to use it, but after I had sewn it on I loathed it. I laid it on the spare bed for 2 weeks and kept looking at it but it just kept screaming at me ----- tooooo busy. The eye needed somewhere to rest, well that's my way of thinking.

Please let me know what you think, be honest we are all friends:p

JeanieG 11-24-2012 10:53 PM

OMG Mirabelle, that is gorgeous! I cannot believe you have it all together! The sashing and cornerstone really make those blocks stand out! I hope I find something as nice for mine!

Personally, I don't think that the border print is too busy. But you have to live with it and if you don't like it, I guess you could replace it with something else???

I still have 2 1/2 blocks to complete! We just got home from Phoenix, so have to regroup here and get on the ball and finish these blocks.

mirabelle 11-24-2012 11:06 PM

Here we go again....
After looking at my quilt top for weeks I decided that I couldn't live with it:thumbdown: SO to the seam ripper it went.
I had just enough of the blue sashing fabric for a final border and binding. It took several hours to unpick and resew but I am now happy with the result.
I hope you can see the difference, sorry for the sideways photo the battery died in my camera and DD took this photo from her phone.
I also had to find where she had saved it on my computer:D

Now I just have to find a longarmer to quilt it for me, cause it is huge

Thank you JeanieG for your kind words, I think the problem was the roses are just scattered throughout the quilt top and not overpowering and the rose border just made it too too much
