Ok I have a sneaking suspicioun (sp?) that QE will be sewing itty bitty really soon! Love that pretty Irish treasure! And fits so well on your rack--now think about something for fall, then Christmas, spring, summer, flag day. Oh we won't be seeing any more big quilts after the PC ride!!!

I can see why they have become addictive to you ... and will be to me! I think the Mini Quilt Rack will have a permanent spot in my office, and as you have already suggested, have a wardrobe of choices according to the seasons! :D

And oh yes, I will be pulled into the itty bitty realm, without a doubt! I've already started sewing HST combos just as I have triangle clippings, and putting them aside for creative assembly at another time. I wish I had one of those large glass cookie/cracker jars, to just toss them into for safe keeping ... would be pretty and colourful, wouldn't it?

And then there's my siggy ....... I sure live up to it! :D

QuiltE that is one gorgeous little quilt, wish I had the patience for minis, I did make 4 inch sampler quilt blocks once and thought they were small

MiraB ... just think of it as a large PC block! :D
Honestly, it was easier than some of our PC/FWS blocks have been.

Hmm itty bitty HST's from leftovers? Ah you are truly pulled in. Anyone else up for the challenge?

Well I've been cutting small half square triangles from scraps and also 1 1/4 inch strips for 2 1/4 inch 9 patch. Does that qualify? I have a pattern named Diamond Back that uses them in a full sized quilt. With every PC block there are more scraps and I was being overrun and had to do something. I couldn't justify giving them away and didn't know how else to use them.

QuiltE 05-21-2012 05:08 AM

<clap><clap><clap><clap>

The other thing to do is to star a Crumb Stash, and put those scraps into a bin and then dive into it for minis. I'd been keeping them after trying a little Crumb Work, so I do have a reserve ready and waiting. I will confess though, that this Mini was done with leftover bigger pieces!

As for what qualifies ... I really have no clue!!
I'll leave that one for our
Resident Expert OKSGlad to answer! :D

ggal I think you are on the way to a mini with those sweet 3/4" finished squares! It sounds like you are thinking of a plan! Often times I take a larger quilt design and downsize it. Then sometimes I randomly sew 9P or 4 P and then build a mini around what I have sewn--the leftovers tell me what to make.

Go GGal Go!!!!!!!

"The Clubhouse" pictures

Here are pictures of my crafting building...I think it looks a little cluttered in my pictures, but I do have a lot in a small space, so am happy with it.

#1: Outside...the shed is the same shape as our house (I'll add a pic of that after these with crabapple tree in full bloom))
#2: Looking in the door and to the left a bit...design "wall" rolls up on dowel under shelf, 6ft work table in front of that.
#3: Sewing table, ironing board, etc. Back wall is a bookshelf with all my current PUPs...well 3 tubs are my children's projects and one has FQs. Also my newest addition is the cutting table extension on the counter! It folds down when not in use...love the higher cutting height!
#4 Singer in cabinet...from the 40s if I remember right ($25 garage sale find when I first started sewing 15yrs ago), next to that is my paper rack for scrapbooking and cardmaking.

The wall where the chairs are is empty...I have a friend or 2 come sew each week so I leave room for them to set up their machine tables/ironing boards. When my sewing table is folded up and all the other sewing stuff is picked up I can set up 2 6ft tables for card classes...have had up to 6 at one time and yes it was a little crowded, but all had a great time. :)

#5-6 Wall with door...white cupboards hold my paper crafting supplies
#7 Loft above cutting counter...tubs of my "stash" and other crafts I do/have done (basket weaving, crochet, knitting, etc)

My house from front

This is a picture my husband took this spring when the crabapple was in full bloom....didn't last long this year since it got cold again shortly after this picture. The top little "roof line" is a loft where our son sleeps. On the right there is a little extension...that is where a built in bed in our living room...this is where my pony club quilts will be used. :)

Lots of great pictures were shared while I was away! Sorry for no update yesterday...I was busy sewing. :) I got 3 more blocks done (will take pictures later today and post) and had to spend some time with my family!

I saw LOTS of great stuff at Market. I took a couple classes...one by Deb Tucker of 180 Studio Designs (she had great rulers: tucker trimmer, wing clipper, etc) Great speaker and a lot of fun to listen to. In the fall I will be doing a demo at the shop where I work.

The other class I took was by Marilyn Foreman of Quilt Moments (she taught on kaleidoscope quilts...quick easy 4-patch ones...she uses them in the centers of her blocks to make some very interesting quilts!) Another great teacher. I will be making a sample for the shop using one of her patterns and some fabric called "Shimmer"by Timeless Treasures (http://www.ttfabrics.net/cgi-bin/fab...i?Category=710). I love butterflies, purple and metallic so this covers all of those...my boss thought they were great too and said as long as I would make a shop sample she would buy fabric from the line!

We saw lots of great patterns and fabric. It is something I would definitely do again. :)

oksewglad 05-22-2012 06:36 AM

Thanks so much for sharing your "clubhouse" pics! It's fun to see where the rest of us sew!
What new fabrics struck your eye?

Carriem...how organized your little sewing space is. Thanks for all of the pictures.

Here's a couple of pictures of the quilt I made for my grandson's graduation. The pattern is called "Siblings". I didn't like the way the original was set so I put the smaller blocks in a frame and made it into a 12 inch block and set everything on point. It was also my first attempt at picking out fabric for a big quilt and it is VERY busy. I only hope that Ryan doesn't mind. I also pieced the back with the leftover fabric so I don't have to figure out what to do with it. It doesn't go with much else that I have.

Wow, whata treat today. Pictures posted by CarrieM were wonderful; neat sewing area and home. And her report from marketing...she is an A plus student on learning new things.

Gardengal, what a beautiful quilt!! Unique for a very special person.

Wonderful eye 'candy' prior to our PC block posting!!!

JeanieG 05-22-2012 11:02 AM

I agree QNS, great photos to start our day. Thanks Gals.

Carrie that is one cute sewing/craft house. You've got all your crafts in one place - cool!

Love your quilt Gardnergal! I'm thinking of doing a backing like that for my Pony Club quilt. Don't know when I would ever use all that horse fabric again!

mirabelle 05-22-2012 02:06 PM

Beautiful craft room Carriem, you would never get me out of there;)
GGal what a wonderful quilt, I hope he likes it

QuiltE 05-22-2012 06:03 PM

WOW CarrieM ... what a great place! I'd go and hideaway there, and lock myself in. Except it seems you have to come out for washroom breaks ... and to eat! Glad you had a good time at Market and so nice you could attend some of the special classes. Guess what? that butterfly fabric ... I'm pretty sure I saw it IRL yesterday! I know it was Timeless Treasures ... and it sure looks the same. A friend was showing me a piece of it that had just followed her home! I bet you like being able to have your stuff all together ... and then to be able to leave it behind and not have it disrupting your home in between working on it. Would be like having a retreat for yourself, every time you go there!

GGal ... Nice quilt! I'm sure it'll be more than appreciated ... it'll be loved! And oh so nice that you can deliver all these quilts yourself.

carriem 05-23-2012 04:58 AM

GGal--love the quilt! I am sure it will be well use. :)

Thanks all for the comments on my little shed. I used to use a 20x40 building that was next to our old house so really had to downsize, but kind of liked having to decide what I really wanted to keep.

We put up a pole building a couple years back for my husband. The next project planned in a couple years is to build me something bigger so I have room for a long-arm....dreaming for that day. :)

Off to find the new block threads...

QuiltE 05-23-2012 05:48 AM

OKSGlad .... Lookeee Lookeeee you've got another one in the fold!

... you've been quiet on this!!! Well Done ... and totally intriguing!!!

And what a sweet treasure it is! Thanks for the "mini" alert QE.

You're welcome!!!

WendiQ ... re your post on the other thread ... maybe you'd like to join OKSGlad, and do Mini's for the AAQI?

carriem 05-23-2012 02:34 PM

Wendi--like your mini...a friend of mine bought/made that little kit too.

I saw a new ruler at Market that has multiple sizes for the "twister" pattern...it is by Marti Michell and has less waste. If someone hadn't walked me through it I may have been very confused! I have a layer cake to try it out as soon as it gets to the quilt shop...gotta try it out so I can demo it too. :)

Something else I forgot to share that I saw...two new border books.

One is already out: 60 Pieced Quilt Borders: Mix & Match
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/160...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

The pictures/directions in this one are really great!

Blocks, Borders, Quilts!: A Mix-and-Match Workbook for Designing Your Own Quilts (July release) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/160...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

This one is good for a round robin type quilt as it has sections for different border options with measurements, there are different choices for each size...if you look at the sample pages on amazon you can see what I mean.

Carrie

CarrieM ... it must have been so much fun to be at the Market and see what's coming. Do you get input as to what your store gets/buys? Or just enjoy and the owner goes separately to do her buying?

carriem 05-23-2012 03:13 PM

QuiltE...I was with the owner pretty much the whole time. She wanted my input. I am her youngest/newest employee so she thought I may have new ideas. Also the other employees told me my "job" was to not let her go overboard. LOL I could see how it would be easy to want to buy way too much! :)

How nice that you were given the trust to be "the" one!!!!
Amazing that the new kid on the block was the one who got to go!!! :)
No jealousy in the ranks?

carriem 05-23-2012 04:25 PM

Well I was the last one to be asked to go...everyone else who wanted to had a family obligation..worked out good for me. ;)

Lucky for you that they were so committed to their families!!!!!! :)

gardnergal970 05-23-2012 05:40 PM

Carriem...I've see then Marti Michell tool demonstrated but i've never tried it yet. I love how she has you stack and cut and then gives clear instructions for assembly. I did a set of house blocks once because it was a class project not because I really wanted to but by the time I got to the last piece on the houses, it was so neat. I'm sure the instructions with this tool won't disappoint either.

dublb 05-23-2012 06:25 PM

Carrie - Wow, what a neat clubhouse! (And a neat country home!!) I bet ya had a great time at market! Sounds like a lot of fun.

GG - I really like that quilt! I love how we can change things & make 'em our own! Ya did a great job with that!
